Twice now I've tried the Queen's kill missions and ended up bailing both times. Progress was just too slow going. Between the shields and increased arc/solar damage, I was spending too much time running for my life. I feel like a failure.

Use the increased element damage, it affects your weapons and theirs. You can destroy them with buffed fusion and sniper rifles (much less rockets...)
If you're really stuck, add some gaffers to your friends list.
No. The only bonus stuff is any of the faction class items, which funnel both Vanguard and Crucible progress to them instead. You're encouraged to mix and match different pieces, especially with the Exotics adding unique properties.
Oh okay. I have 3 of them, I already ran the Scourage of Winter mission but I think it says it's still completed. Can I go back in?

I haven't done much PvP. If I have six friends, is there any easy way we can have our "own" 3v3 match?

If you want to do the mission six times today, yeah. Not sure I'm going to bother with them though, I can live with only four legendaries.
I don't think there's custom MP options of any type, is there?

with those materials you can make 1 upgrade to 1 of your legendary or exotic armors.

I will say, as someone who:
1) doesn't really like tiered gear progression/vertical progression in games at all
2) didn't like the idea of Light when I first heard about it
3) has really, really shitty RNG luck when playing games with loot rolls
4) is not hardcore/does not poopsock/doesn't like farming/doesn't min-max
It's pretty much perfect for me. I've been able to make consistent progress every night I've played, all the way up to being raid-ready and beyond (damn it feels good to be above the recommended level for it when trying it for the first time), without relying on a single roll of the RNG dice. edit: past level 24. I keep forgetting to mention this because I had no issues with blue drops.
Totally like the idea of class items with just Light on them, no stats. Could be awesome.

That was the only way my team could get past that door in last week's nightfall.
Well, that and playing Battlefield by hiding behind those stairs.

Just did the Mars Queen mission and got the helmet, which is what I was after. Weirdly though, the final boss vanished before we killed him!
Got the mission end screen, then a message came up saying Pardon Our Dust. Game went to title screen and installed a 1.0mb patch. Went back to my character and still had the Helmet, yet it said I had the Cloak too. Turns out I don't have that, so must of been a weird glitch!
Anyway, if I try the Mission again, will it be different? It says I have two Missions in my inventory.

Yea I know. It really doesn't matter what I get since I'm dismantling them all anyway, just thought it was funny. The shards let me fully upgrade my gauntlets though.

Haha - That's the sad part, I was matching the damage types! I think I'm just terribad. Would love to group up with some gaffers, tho, if any need to do them too. I should be free starting in an hour if any are interested.
Why don't weapons contribute to light score?

I didn't see any. I was hoping that if I had a fireteam of six and chose a 3v3 mode, it would put us in a match but that didn't work :-\

Never did bounties/missions that require me to change up my playstyle in PVP, be it Titanfall or CoD or this, progression be damned.

Yeah you can now do five queen missions. You can find them on the left of the icons on the solar system map.

i hope i get enough Ass to level up some stuff, i maxed my exotic helmet but that took every Ass shard i had (at that time )

An exotic weapon engram thing popped up for me when I logged back on from it. Sure it is some bug since it wasn't in my inventory and I never got it as a drop before the patch.

And what the fuck is with the laggy mess pvp? Yeah it tries hard to disguise the lag and latency in trademark bungie fashion, but trying to hide it doesn't work!

yep.
In the earth mission, which once again is the one I recommend doing solo or with other people, the shanks have solar shield and do a decent amount of damage, but with solar damage such as a fusion rifle or a sun bro they won't be as bad.
What, in your opinion, is the minimum level to attempt this? Currently a 26 defender titan, but hopefully I'll be 27 tonight after a legendary from her highness.

I'm actually sitting on 32 Strange coins, but didn't buy the chest, because I had already invested in the Chest piece and I like my sticky grenades...
If I would have known that the game was going to not give me an ascended shard for days on end I would have snagged the chest just to not be at a disadvantage in lvl 26 missions anymore.

Yeah this is what I ended up doing I spent two hours at the loot cave and didn't get a single purple.

Maybe a gift from bungie. I got a legendary engram, turned into a blue shotgun. heh.
If you're really curious, this would make it extreeeeemely easy to overgear- say hit 28 when you'd only barely have hit 27 without it, having done the same content- and weapons already themselves add significant damage to the benefits of raising your light level. It would legitimately break the game in its current form.
If your equipped weapons had base light like weapons do, I would, right now, be level 29 (I'm 27), and I don't have a legendary/exotic special weapon.\
;_; you can keep earning strange coins forever. You could have gotten the chest piece and easily hit 26 and dismanted it for shards the moment you could afford the one you wanted.

I was 25 or 26 when I did last week's. We were fine since we took advantage of the void burn (well, I had double duty by using arc weapons against those damn Knights and their shields).
I am dude. I want do the Nightfall, then we can do the Weekly Strike @ 28 and get them both over back to back.
