I played the HELL out of Gauntlet I & II back in the arcades when I was a kid. I have Gauntlet: Dark Legacy for my Dreamcast and liked it very much. I would love to buy this one but I'm waiting to hear opinions and read reviews first. If it's good then I'll buy it for nostalgia alone.

Played some solo (first dungeon part of the second) with the Valkyrie. I think it seems pretty fun so far; fast paced, good variety of moves. You can die pretty fast (even on Normal) if you don't keep aware of what's going on. Looks good (I'm playing on a Shield Tablet right now in 720p, so it runs at like 100+ FPS maxed out, can't comment on 1080p+ yet). I'm sure it's way more fun in multi, but even in solo so far it seems like a good time-waster with some chaotic action.

friend had to leave for work but we managed to get to the 4th level of the 2nd act out of 3 acts overall i think the game is awesome its highly responsive and each of the 4 classes have really fun abilities the only suggestions i have for it are minor and just what i think would be cool if they added at a later date but all in all its worth the price if you have people to play with
things i would like to see:
- more classes bring in everyone from the legends series and lynx version hell even make some up if you want to but id like to see more heroes be added
- more acts with more levels and interesting tile sets would like to see some out door areas
- hidden exits like the original gauntlets
- more traps and tricks would love if they added dummy doors and other things you can accidentally waste keys on like in the first gauntlets they had a few of these in the 2nd act of the game but they were very few and far between

Really like what I've played of Gauntlet so far. Uncomplicated slaughtering but it can be tricky enough, you have to be careful even on normal or you can get fucked over quite easily.
I like how in the second level it has you
. Just a fun way to mix things up.
Not a must buy but a fun time IMO. I'm also playing it solo and enjoying it as well, combat's nice and crunchy.

also wish death was a random spawn and not just in those run from death levels although those do get pretty tense the 3rd one in particular think that was the one the poster above was talking about where you gotta get like 3 or 4 keys to pass one room while death is right on you

So I bought and downloaded. Only thing is I can't seem to get the game to detect my display as capable of 1080p? It only goes up to some weird step down res around 1760 horizontal.

friend had the same problem for him it was hidden just hit down past that and then hit your select key
lame. this is not the gauntlet I grew up with.

I have an issue with Full Screen not actually being Full Screen, but I do get the 1080p option.
Seem there's a couple of bugs with stuff like that, and a few rough edges to the game interface, but I'm enjoying it!
Played solo and also had a 20 min blast online with 3 randoms, nice simple, fast fun!

There was an option in the game menus that said 'Classic mode' but I'm not sure what it does.
EDIT - Ah it seems to graphics related rather than gameplay related from what I could see.
I'm liking these impressions and the videos I've seen so far. Looks like a tasteful reworking of the formula to me, but with much greater detail to finally bring those monster designs to life. Those that complain about the mundane backgrounds would do well to cast their minds back to the simplicity of the originals!

The whole losing health mechanic only existed to force people to feed quarters into the arcade machine. It's an archaic mechanic that would have been universally panned by reviewers had it been included. I'm glad it's not there; the game is hard enough without it.
Sad that this game doesn't have an OT. It's actually quite a bit of fun.
The problem isn't showing up for everyone. In my case, all of the expected resolutions (including my native resolution of 2560x1440) showed up in the settings menu, no scrolling or hidden option necessary.

I want to think if you were good enough you didn't have to pump quarters.Same with the beat em ups from way back when.
I'm glad it's a challenge but it seems like a poor representation of the classic gameplay without the losing health.

Awesome Game. I love how each class plays totally different from each other.
So I've been playing on hard and is it just me, or does the Valkyrie absolutely suck compared to the other classes? The Wizard is basically Invoker from Dota 2, huge utility in every situation, the Warrior can clear crowds like crazy, the elf is mobile as furk and the Valkyrie is ... kind of a not-as-good Warrior.

my problem with Valkyrie is that dam shield toss doesnt always chain sometimes it chains through loads of monsters other times it does fuck all and puts you in shit so inconsistent its annoying
if you wanna have lots of fun the best is wizard have 9 skills with different button combos can teleport chain lightning fireball ice beam all in like 3 seconds.
