I always enjoy these sorts of thing more than I really should. Also, does anyone else think that this is more '16 bit' rather than 8?

The music and sounds effect sound 8bit but some of the graphics look a little to good to be 8bit but I just might be remembering my Nintendo games to poorly.

That was fantastic. I was hoping they would have done the Neo and the helicopter scene.

nobody respects hardware restrictions in shit like this, which is a shame

Yeah, while I appreciate the work that into it I can't help but feel kind of turned off by these things when they take so many artistic liberties and don't really follow any unified standard. It's an 8-bit/16-bit "uncanny valley" if you will.

Let's argue over the definition of 8-bit.

This is pretty cool and there are a lot of these for different movies. Thanks for sharing.

I agree. But I think complaining about it is fairly pedantic, as the videos themselves are straightforward about what they are:

CineFix presents The Matrix retold via old-school 8-bit (and a little 16 bit ;) game tech. No quarters or controllers required! 8-bit Cinema "gamifies" your favorite Hollywood Blockbusters into 80's arcade and NES inspired action!

I believe it's fair to say 8-bit is used as a moniker for style rather than a strict definition of the processors used in their creation.

Wow. Awesome. I love projects like these. There's no way the NES could run this but I'd say the Master System could probably just about pull it off. Master System games towards the end of its life pulled off games that were almost on par with very early Genesis titles. If you look at the MS version of Wonderboy in Monster World compared to the Genesis port they're surprisingly pretty damn close. So yeah the MS could pull this off.

Then again I used to be a die hard Sega fan so admittedly I'm super biased.

there's something to be said when the creator stays within the actual limitations of the style they're emulating.

it's a neat thing though.
