King of the Hill returns 8/4 for a new season

Toby Huss is taking over as Dale Gribble. He's pretty good and i'm glad they're keeping Dale.
Also if you're having doubts about the reboot check out the Beavis and Butthead reboot. It's pretty damn funny while faithful to the original.
Dude in B&B where they have people fight and the winner gets service and the loser is refused was pretty damn funny.

(Loser was autocorrected to lower?)

started rewatching King of the Hill

Pretty much skipping all the Peggy episodes, and beelining for the Khan and Luane ones

King of the Hill is legit incredibly popular in Japan. They kinda see it as American anime. And to think all this started cause Mike Judge was hammering a fence into the ground.

they need to do a revival of the critic. hachi machi!
Nah it needs to go back to being forgotten

Also, Jon Lovitz is doing like corporate cybersecurity awareness videos these days. lol

I was so excited for this I subscribed to Disney/Hulu for 3 months after receiving a tempting promotion. To my surprise it has It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, My Name Is Earl, and Malcolm in the Middle as well.

New trailer dropped today.

You know what, I have faith, not sure we had a thread for it here but the Beavis & Butthead new seasons have been great and they transported the characters to modern day well, so I have zero doubts Mike Judge has done it again here.

I am very much looking forward to this. King of the Hill is my "The office". I can rewatch the whole show every year without hating it. Sure some episodes here or there get skipped but I can honestly say the quality kept pretty consistent even on the older seasons. Not as good as the first seasons but there was always at least two to 5 episodes that were great. I've missed this show.

Toby's Dale voice is spot on in the new trailer, sounds a lot like the Johnny's voice while coming off as a little older. Trailer still had that familiar KotH vibe as well, really looking forward to it.

Great show, I just hope they keep the tone of the original. I'll be watching with an old judgmental eye to make sure they don't ruin a classic. Dale is my favorite.

I'm 3 episodes deep and I'm loving it. The beer competition episode felt like a classic koth episode. Especially the ending.
I blasted through four and enjoyed half of them. The first episode was really uneven and the fourth did not really catch my interest. However, I enjoyed the "Bobby Gets Grilled" one more than a lot of the episodes in the original show. Loved how it started with irreconcilable differences and ended with everybody enjoying the experience and coming around. Looking forward to watching more in the near future.

Episode 1 (Return of the King) thoughts: It's great to be back in Arlen. It's an interesting premise and I'm happy to see the show got a lot of its verve back--honestly the last few seasons could be pretty dull sometimes. So while some of the humor is a little lowbrow like Hank struggling to pee and Bobby butt-dialing Peggy during sex, I'm glad to see that there's a real energy in the air again.

The voices can be jarring. Bill and Hank sound just like they used to, Bobby sounds great, Peggy is mostly good but occasionally a little hoarse. Dale unfortunately is definitely different; I think they have both actors do lines in this episode and they both sound a little off in their own ways. I think I can get used to it but I worry about Kahn from that clip earlier.

All in all, slightly uneven but I laughed a fair amount and I do like the theme of this episode: change can be uncomfortable but not all of it is bad. Some new things come from a place of empathy, and kindness towards others is a good thing. That's a nonpartisan perspective the show often toes successfully, and something I can see Hank getting behind too.

sounds about right for King of the Hill, did a small rewatch of all the seasons, for me, it was like 3/5 good episodes and 2/5 lame ones. can't win them all.

Episode 1 was lovely.
Hank's character stayed familiar and the modern changes he's running into was handled well. Peggy is fine.
Confident Bobby is great. Really happy for him. He looks way older than 21 though. He does look like he's over 30. Liked when he wanted to go to the party, but saw the dishes, old lazy Bobby would have put it off and go have fun right away. But this Bobby is responsible and does it first and goes to the party late
First lol moment for me was showing the realty commerical with Nancy and Redcorn and the video comments with the anime girl avatar going "He's tapping that"

they should have killed Bill off.

Never, Bill is amazing.

It's... Ok. Some of the jokes are too over explained and fuck that animation style.

It's basically later seasons of KoTH. Where you just have it on in the background and don't pay attention to it.

Those first three (or four?) seasons were solid though. Up to the one with Luanne and angel Buckley.

I feel like after that is when the quality dipped a bit.

Finished it all. I give it 8/10. Only really one stinker episode. And -1 for Kahn's new voice. Generally liked everything else
If the only other choice is a shitty Asian va and a white guy that nails it. I go with the white guy.

Dale's voice actor has this weird southern Valley Girl inflection going on. Pretty weird.

But I'm liking these episodes so far. I haven't watched the entire original series, but it was always on as reruns growing up. Nice to see these characters encounter the modern world.

Peggy is insufferable.

Good to know nothing's changed, then 🤣

Finished binging it last night. I thoroughly enjoyed it. My only real complaints are Dale's voice (but i understand that the VA had health issues before passing and the new VA for episodes 7-10 was just copying his current voice) and Luanne isnt even name dropped throughout the whole season.

Kahn is also vastly different (but, again, i get it, he no longer sounds like cotton hill pretending to be asian)

But everything else: bobby's dynamic with his parents, joseph, connie, his restaurant. Hank coming to grips with modern america, dale being dale, bill being bill, keith david, GH having a small character arc, and of course peggy being the same egotistical maniacal narcissist thats shes always been just melded so damn well here.

This season was worth watching, even for me, a KotH lite-fan mostly only by its proximity to The Simpsons and Family Guy on Sunday nights on Fox. I think it helps that I'm older and these characters, while exaggerations, remind me of real people. With all their flaws, they're still relatable and likeable except for...

Bro, I think I'm a good person who tries to give people the benefit of the doubt, but I can't remember a single character (protagonist, side, or villain/antagonist) that gets my goat as much as Peggy does. She's too real, and she's just the absolute worst.

I watched the rest of the season and outside of the Kahn episode they were on par with the other seasons. The funniest one is "New Ref in Town" as it turns up the Dale conspiracy theory angle to 11 as Hank tries to hide his respect for the sport of soccer and Peggy makes it a role-playing sex thing while Bobby gets suckered into buying an old horse with a new car. Also loved the episode with Willow joining the father and son duo in the fantasy football camp. Too bad that Bobby breaks that relationship off as the character was super entertaining.

Exactly, but thats kind of the point, she represents that one person we all know who can be a 110% Karen

Shes meant to be the character you love to hate

I hadn't considered that I have carte blanche to outright despise her...this could be the start of a beautiful hatefulship.

I always thought Peggy was hilarious, although they definitely dialed her up in later years (and here). Many of the characters in this show have always been flawed, like Dale, Kahn, Buck, Bill, and Cotton. It's not a bad thing. I'm sure many of them would drive me crazy in real life too. Peggy fits right in with this very imperfect cast.

I assume she's less popular though because her brand of crazy is way more relatable than, say, Cotton's.

I think Peggy was good in this stage of her life. Hated her episodes in the old show. She's actually reasonable here most of the time reigning in Hank. And her scenes with adult Bobby are all really good.
