WHEN: Friday Oct 17th, 2014
TIME: 8pm
LOCATION: The Wheat Sheaf Tavern

667 King St W, Toronto, ON M5V 1M9

We'll start off here, then we'll wander somewhere until we get sick and tired of walking per usual. That Japanese place Two meetups ago was boss. Wouldn't mind checking that place out again. Polar Beers to get everyone prepared for #TeamWinters take over.

If you're gonna show up late, check the thread for where we have moved.

So many memories!

The first Mystery Box was a raging success so I've decided to bring it back! What's in the box? You're gonna have to show up to find out.

Smash is out and everyone wants to play so I'm holding the First(Only? Last?) Toronto GAF Super Smash Bros. Tournament. We'll aim for a 16 person tournament(4 four player battles, winners complete in the 4 player final), but we may expand it to a 32 player bracket with a head to head final if there's enough demand with some people getting first round byes if we get close to but not exactly 32 people.

What do I get if I win?

Glad you asked. The winner gets congratulations from me(A $50 value!) plus this super awesome prize pack:

But wait, that's not all. You also get this championship ribbon:

Be the envy of all you friends!

I took the liberty of crafting his and hers ribbons in case some of TOgaf's female members decide to make an appearance. And yes guys, if you win. You can choose to take the pink ribbon. We don't force gender rolls here.

I don't own 4 3DS's(I Only own 3) and I don't have 4 copies of Super Smash Bros. so I'm hoping for 4 TO GAF members to generously bring their copy of Smash and be willing to lend their 3DS for tournament purposes so that people who don't own the game can compete in the tournament if they so choose.

Please state your willingness to bring a 3DS and copy of Smash for tournament purposes when confirming attendance.

Kuro's Meetup FAQ:

What do we usually do?
Usually, we get around 16-20 people and just hang out and talk to real live people as opposed to talking to people on the Internet. Topics range from Rob Ford, gaming, sports, life, GAF gossip, Kraftwerk's beard, Kave_Man's fro, travel, etc. Many of us also have portable gaming systems (3DS/Vita) and games can break out when we're not breaking each other's faces.

Other than that, we usually drink some alcohol and maybe water in Kraftwerk's case, chat, and eat appetizers for usually 2 hours or so. Once we've been kicked out for rowdiness, we go to another place to actually get food. I'm guessing we're going to Koreatown for KFC (aka Korean Fried Chicken), but plans can and do changing depending on who is left and what they want to do. For reference, we've gone for Chinese, Sushi ,Vietnamese, burritos, and Korean afterwards.

Meetups can last until midnight, but people come and leave when they wish. In some cases these last beyond midnight, but this is rare because I think Kraftwerk turns into a werewolf and Kave_Man turns into a Yeti at midnight.

But I'm shy and scared of meeting people I don't know
Best way to get over that? Go out and meet some people. Yes, we don't know you, and you don't know us. However, the people I've met have all been friendly and we haven't had disagreements in the past. What will you talk about? What do you want to talk about?

But it's too far and it's too hot!
Yes...! Another convert of Team Warm! One of us was driving back from NEW YORK the night of the last meet up and STILL made it. Another came all the way from OTTAWA! The temperatures for the last meet up, I'm guessing, were colder than this coming meet up AND there was a power outage last time. Nothing...stops this train.

But I don't drink alcohol and bar food is disgusting
Come chat and/or bring your portable game system and play a few rounds of that popular video game with us. You can always come just to say hello, see the carnage, and be witness to the shenanigans.

But I'm poor...! :(
If you can make it, people usually treat others to at least one round. Of course, we aren't going to do this if Rob Ford or something like 50 crazies show up, but anyone who comes for a drink always gets one. You can always join Kraftwerk for some Kraft Water.

I'm busy doing [insert activity here]
If you're busy at home watching tv/movies or playing video games, they aren't going anywhere, and you can play games with us and discuss tv/movies with us. If you're busy doing someone, well...you can finish and then come visit after a shower of course.

I'm tired
Nothing brings out the energy like discussion and body slams.

Why would I want to go meet a bunch of Internet gaming nerds?

I should be there, but I'll let you know if things change.

I don't want to be in the same bracket as Campino's girlfriend...

Will bring 3DS. I might have Smash, or I might not.

Edit:
So guys, we all agree that Kirby never happened?

(We're in.)

I want YOU in her bracket! :'(

Edit2:
Wheat Sheaf again? I guess it was better than that other pub we went to with the standoffish waitress.

I don't know many TO places. Unless you want me to channel Isny and pick some place that ends up closed. Plus everyone seems to like it and it's walking distance to others places.

We're plotting scheming thinking of getting some copies of Smash in time for this. That would also require that I buy a 3DS...

Hmmm actually put me down as a maybe for the moment. just realized I have a thing in the same neighbourhood that week, so not sure yet what to show up and say hi for and for which one to stick around at.

I'll be down.

Might be poor this time around if my bid closes.

someone buy me a beer :(

As for the smash tournament I'm. A free win anyhow. I've never been good at this game.

Mick E Flynns only ok. Not exactly a place I would go on the regular. But I knew it would be empty. I thought Leafs GAF would find it charming since its across from Maple Leaf Loblaws. In the past we've always gone to places way too busy for the crowd we have. Even the last time at Wheat Sheaf was quite busy.

I wasn't gonna buy smash 3DS since my L button is mostly nonfunctional, but I could maybe fix it. Probably have to take it apart this time.

Also the only one I was ever good at was 64

DOES THIS MEAN I NEED TO BUY A 3DS AGAIN?

Buy mine! I'll sell it to you I got at!

RED 3DS XL UNOPENED IN BOX!

Edit:

If your bid closes??? You buying a mansion? And of course I'll buy you a 'beer' mwahahaha.

I've never been big into Smash, so I should be an easy win, though I'll do my best to at least beat a certain someone ;)

Edit 2: I'm fine with Wheat Sheaf. I just thought someone might know of a better more spacious place where we can more boisterous.

You sold your 3DS? Don't tell me you used that money to buy a Vita.

Hah! (I've owned a VITA for quite some time. ;P)

I sold my 3DS after Zelda since I didn't see anything else coming out for it that I wanted until Smash. I kind of felt like a HW revision was coming, so I decided to do the short sell. Thankfully I was right! I plan on getting the New 3DS when it comes out here.

My gf would like to know if any ball-handling will take place earlier than it did last time, so she can join in, too.

Wheat Sheaf is really far from the Korean place we ended up last time.

We usually do a drunk walk along King St W. then up Spadina St. for asian food after the bar.

Two meetups ago I took the remnants of the group for Izakaya and polar beer.

Meetup 3 when we had pho after the Victory Cafe all the Vietnamese places on Spadina were closed by 11pm. We ended up going to Pho Pasteur which is open 24 hours.

Those polar beers were so good. I know Sober and I did Sake bombs(Thanks for the Sake EM!!). Not sure if any of the others did too.

Except me since I don't drink beer. Regret not trying the sake straight up though. Will have to rectify this at the meetup.

Maybe.

I'm going to Tillsonburg for a party on the 18th. Not sure if we're leaving the 17th or the 18th.
