The lower drop rate only lasts for a short period?

Also, I agree with you. No one is doing these things for engrams, but it's nice when they drop. It's always nice to pick them up, and end each raid with a few to see what I get and rank of the Cryptard. Making them drop less often in every strike after a wipe happens seems like a bad approach to fix a few farm spots.

yes, only for a short period. the bungie post was updated with that information. so it gets rid of farming and doesn't greatly impact the possibility of getting them

If Bungie started having Bosses drop loot, gave the Cryptarch new glasses/new hands, fixed Crucible loot, and made Strikes better that the game would become a masterpiece

I'm going to need one more for raid tonight, start at 9 pacific time! I have a group from doing the raid last week, but one of the guys can't make it. We got to the last boss, didn't finish it though. This will take place on PS4.

Add me if interested: FrsDvll

I think some of the issues lie in that some of the strikes aren't all that fun in repetition. To say nothing of the fact that dungeons should prepare you for the raid. Throwing the kitchen sink at you is bad design when you aren't taught anything. Even Dark Souls teaches you organically through gameplay. Destiny doesn't.

Eh,

I've played the Earth Strike like 30 times between beta and now, it's still pretty fun.

I think they need to drop in some more unique baddies into future raids and maybe some loot tables make sense so you know where your drop chances reside.

I think the changes to chat are the most important thing to come out of this and will really help the game a lot.

Well, everything except that part, okay.

But that's exactly how the game was designed to be played and how I've been enjoying it since day one.

There's plenty to enjoy as far as pure gameplay. The mechanics and the way game handles are unimpeachable to me, IMO. I enjoy that part greatly.

I agree that this means positive things eventually. I just feel bad for anyone who is going to/has already plod/plodded away before the inevitable progression changes to the game.

Oh it didn't feel like a "I'm leaving the thread" at all, it doesn't say anything resembling that anywhere in it, it just explained the current endgame perfectly.

oops i guess it does, i went back and reread the parts that didn't concern destiny

So now that salvaging the Queens gear gives no acension materials, is there any point to running them?

To get the queens gear so that you can wear it and look awesome?

Isn't that the entire point of loot games?

Get loot, look cool.

This game has officially become a fucking mess. Level 27 Hunter with 45+ hours into the game, I have no idea what the hell I'm supposed to be doing now.

The people playing it have no idea what they want.
The people making the game have no idea what they want to make.

Been fun meeting with peeps from GAF though.
Let's see how this game shapes up throughout the last of 2014. So much potential but after the Sept 30 influx of games comes, Destiny will be put on the back burner. So many issues plaguing it right now.

Sounds like what I'll be doing too.

I compared it because the christmas cave is no glitch. It's the system working as intended. It's just that people assume Bungie didn't intend on people using it in that way so most people call it an exploit.

The Queens Wraith thing I now refer to as an exploit because it's just like the loot cave. Everything is working as programmed, but it's apparent now Bungie didn't intend on people using it to level up quick or else they would have kept it up.

I get why you referred to it in such a way, it's just that the word "exploit" brings a lot of baggage with it. It implies the player was cheating or breaking the system for their own benefit.

You should be using terms like Bungie's Error, flawed execution, or lack of planning on Bungie's part. That's more accurate to what really happened.

Reached level 20 last night, been getting rare engrams, weapons, armors so far (no farming). Happened to get a legendary engram, which decoded into a legendary gauntlet.... for a different class... sigh.

No you aren't. Daily story mission gives ascended mats and can be done on each of your characters. Same for daily public event mail. Same for daily public event completions.

The amount of materials needed to reach level 28 isn't particularly large. Unless you're pushing all your gear to 29 (why?), you don't need a ton of shards.

On top of that, I'm not sure people have realized that higher attack does precisely fuckall for you against enemies of a lower level, it helps if you're fighting higher level enemies.

Or to put it another way, if you're blowing all your energy and shards upgrading all your weapons and armor, you're wasting them for no good reason.

Armor in particular should only be capped if it is either a) raid armor that goes to 30 light or b) you're pushing to hit 29 so you can do the hard mode raid.

Otherwise you can reach 28 reasonably easily (especially easily now that queen is giving you free chest/helm, that means you need a whopping 65 marks or 130 marks to cap out in armor depending on what xur has for you).

Once you're 28 you can do the weekly nightfall easily, and all other existing content outside the hard mode raid without trouble.

If you want to do the hard mode raid right now, then yeah, you're going to have to triple farm dailies and weeklies with three capped characters, but for literally any other content in the game, you do not need to do so (and frankly, doing daily and weekly events on three different classes sounds a hell of a lot more fun to me than farming engrams, ymmv).

The sheer amount of misinformation and FUD being talked in this thread is unreal, I think I'm going to take a hiatus for a few days until things calm down or we get a dedicated gameplay talk thread in community or something.

There's very little point in attempting to ask or answer gameplay questions in the OT when the majority of posts are throwaway rants that we've seen posted literally hundreds of times.

On top of that there's a ton of misunderstanding, confusion, or outright false complaints about the way loot and progression function in the game. A lot of that is on Bungie, they fucked up by not laying out progression clearly, but the information is out there, if you care to look for it.

Hell, a lot of the information is right here in linked posts in these threads, but again, it's drowned out by the noise.

You want to level your character up for Iron Banner. Not to mention stuff like Nightfall and Hard Mode for the Strikes and Raids. So yes you want your character higher. And do people really need a reason to reach a level cap? We're not even talking min-maxing here.

We're wasting our shards for no good reason? What else are we going to spend them on? There is no player driven economy in the game, so what good are they doing in your inventory?

Daily story missions and daily public events give you one or two a piece. So going with the assumption of not buying any gear, it would take you 6 days for a single piece of gear. So that's a month for the armor roughly.

There's no sense of progression in the game. It's literally being stonewalled for a couple of months while Bungie attempts to get their act together and put in more content. At least with SWTOR you can slowly change your gear in addition to being able to take out your mats so it doesn't feel anywhere near as much of a time sink.

Oh fucking joy,

So If I do all the Daily crap (level 28 Heroic and Gold a Public Event) I now have a chance
at scoring enough ascended mats to give myself half [ 3/6 => 1/2] of a 1 - 2 light increase on my gear. When that doesn't roll I can wait until next fucking Tuesday for the Mark cap to reset so I can grind out marks, buy some shit that I can break down for the same result.

Thanks Bungie, for letting me know you DON'T want us playing the game. Fortunately there's still time left to get that guaranteed trade credit from Gamestop.

I knew Bungie would Nerf the AR. Mark my words it will become a useless gun. People will move on to the next best thing. I just think Bungie is horrible at weapon balance. Halo 3 had one of the worst weapon sandboxes.

I just pray that Xur will be my savior to get out of level 25, because otherwise it looks like I'll be stuck there for a good, long, grindy time....

You effectively hit the nail on the head.

The problem with this sort of a game is you need people to come back.

With PSO you would run through a full Dark Falz and wind up with a bunch of 'rares' you already had.

The difference here is with PSO you continued leveling your character as you went.

Bungie decided to do this odd level your armor and level your weapons for light to 'level' up business and I think that is making it seem like less progress is made on 'fruitless' missions.

Part of the issue seems to be people are only playing the game for loot and not to actually play the game (i.e. the strikes and raids only have value insofar as they give me loot, not for their own merit).

The light levels piss players off because progression gets halted so frequently (needing specific mats that are rare) rather than having a linear progression like xp. I know it was their design choice, but goodness, Paragon levels from D3 would have been a much smarter way of doing it (a tweeked version of those for the game).

I just don't want PvP considerations making a weapon less effective in PvE, but I guess that's inevitable.

Yeah at least the loot cave passed time.

I've done the nightfall...can't find a group for raid. Not even sure what to do, I've PVPed till my eyes bleed.

If you wipe in a darkness zone and restart at the previous checkpoint, the drop rate for engrams goes down. This is to stop people from farming We've Awoken the Hive! or the Circle of Bones or Shrine of Oryx. The side effect is that noone is going to feel like challenging themselves and doing high level raids because the odds of wiping are higher and that now means your odds of getting loot are going to suffer. By stopping a few people from farming they've done a really good job of fucking things up, in my opinion.

ah right i get it, sounds like a panic button fix to me.

I'm behind most of my friends atm. I would like to be able to do the harder stuff they are doing.

Right, but that's what this game is.

You have to work really hard over long periods of time so that you can get to the end game and play the really hard/well designed stuff and get the super elite gear.

If you fire bullets into a cave for like 30 hours and get there in a week you've basically cheated yourself out of actually playing the game.

Shit I don't even know what to do in this game besides the loot cave.

Departure from the Cave

Plato then supposes that one farmer is freed, being suddenly compelled to stand, turn, walk and look towards the fire. The light would hurt his eyes, and cause great difficulty for him to see the object's shadows he had seen before. In his pain, Plato continues, the freed one would turn away and run back to what he can make out; the shadows of the carried objects. He is then told that what he has formerly seen has no substance, and that what he now sees (the carried objects) constitutes a greater reality. When he sees the world outside the cave he begins to question his previous beliefs.

The freed one is then dragged in pain and irritation up and out of the cave. Upon exiting the cave, this discomfort only intensifies as the radiant light of the sun overwhelms his eyes. The sunlight is representative of the new reality and knowledge the freed one is experiencing.

Slowly, his eyes adjust to the light of the sun. He is first able to see only shadows of things. Next he can see the reflections of things in water and later is able to see things themselves. He is then able to look at the stars and moon by night and finally he is able to look upon the sun.

(embrace the light)

Perfect.

So would you not call the Christmas Cave an exploit?

An exploit is taking advantage of a flaw. You can, I suppose consider a six second respawn rate a flaw, if you want. The difference is that they fixed all the six second respawn rates to 40 seconds in various areas.

Now tell me how breaking down legendaries you RNG, or buy give you ascendant mats is not a flaw, when apparently the ones you get by grinding out bounties and epic story quests is?

Saw this on twitter..cannot stop laughing. And it's pretty accurate.
