Requirements not met?!?

This might be my departing post because I just feel like I'm done. It's unrelated to the cave being closed because I stopped farming a good while ago, since that shit is just degrading to your soul. It being patched does bother me however because the underlying issue remains unadressed and the only news for the future consists of a vague "we're working on it".

They act like there is an economy that needs to be checked and balanced, but there isn't. Nobody is being hurt by me being able to reach lvl 28 because I managed to complete the queens quest several times. Nobody would be hurt by me finding a good legendary auto rifle since everything is theoretically supposed to be balanced. There is no reason for the game to be as pedantic about everything as it is. It's honestly the most frustrating game I've ever played. It feels like this game actively wants to make me think about why I'm playing it, and the more I do the more I realize I don't want to anymore.

Because I've spent 3 days 12 hours 15minutes and 36 seconds playing this game and I feel like I could have stopped at 20 hours and had the same experience. I don't know why I've played this game as obsessively as I have but I shouldn't have. It's not worth it. Maybe it's because it's the first shooter with very tight controls on the ps4 but fuck me I can't deal with this progression system. I've maxed out marks and gotten up to 27, I have the shards for 28(thanks queen) but I realized gathering the materials would mean atleast several more hours of running around shooting lvl 8 dregs and opening chests. I don't enjoy doing that at all but I've spent more hours than I'd like to admit on each of the planets doing exactly that. During that time I don't think I've interacted in a socially meaningful way at all. I guess I've spent 5 minutes in between chest runs shooting at a bulletsponge with some other guys, but I'm fairly sure none of us were really into it. I've done all of the farms, grinded all of the marks and hit every unnanounced cap this game has to offer. Including the 200 marks cap, which keeps counting your marks earned despite you being unable to earn more.

I enjoy playing the harder (more bullshitty content) but there is no reward for it, and it is actually less efficient then cranking down the difficulty and blowing through everything. As an added issue I've grown tired of most of it. I run past 80% of the encounters in the pve section of the game because they are a waste of time and end up only killing the enemy I have a bounty for or the boss so I can get my marks/rep. I've done every mission so many times that I know exactly where to stand to survive 95% of all encounters unscathed. I can finish most missions/strikes while watching episodes of star trek. I rarely get off of my hoverbike before the first press square to proceed moment of every strike. Honestly I feel like a drone going through motions, chasing some sort of machinated carrot that doesn't exist.

I enjoy the pvp, I want different weapons though but unfortunately I have to grind more rep to purchase them or hope the random loot gods comply. Meanwhile I've used this legendary scout rifle for 40+ hours, I've switched in some other stuff that's less efficient to level them up but it's been pretty much that scout rifle I got when I was level 18 two weeks ago from a random blue engram. I was going to get a purple gun from the crucible dude when I hit lvl 3, (initially 2 but the mark cap put a stop to that, because that would have been too ridiculous right) but I don't want to do this same punch twenty dudes bounty again. In fact I don't want to do anything again because it's the same shit in the same toilet like some fucking looney toons version of the end of tomorrow.

I don't want to do this again because I do feel entitled. I do feel like I deserve to enjoy myself and make meaningful progress towards a goal everytime I launch a game. I do feel like I should be able to get ascendant shards in an easy to understand controllable fashion, that is not overly time consuming or ridiculously specific like running around with 3 alts at specific times to complete a public event where the same walker I shot three times previously falls from the sky. I do feel like I deserve to have a sizeable arsenal of different guns to use should it strike my fancy to do so, where each offers a meaningful difference from the previous one. What I've gotten however is 20 Shingen-E's, 50 Sidewinder shotguns, and a bunch of stuff I honestly don't care about. If you make a loot game you need a variety, if you don't have variety your loot game is dead in the water. But this is besides the point.

I'll say this again, I've spent 3 days 12 hours 15minutes and 36 seconds playing this game in the short time it's been available. But I can't anymore, I'm just fucking done. This game is a treadmill, but the goal distances are set for some arbitrary point in spacetime and you may or may not get what you want when you get there. I have a 600+ game backlog, and I'm sure 80%+ of those games will treat my time with more respect than destiny will. I'm just going to go play some of those.

My final remark is that I don't understand why they'd do this. If I burned out because I got all the legendaries and got all of the exotics I wanted I would have quit a much happier man. I probably would have returned for some more when the DLC launched. As it stands I'm just so fucking done I'm probably never returning.

Lawwdd Almigttyy. Spot on.

If you take a step back and look at the broad scope of the game as a whole, it seems like they spent A LOT of time creating the world, and the story missions, and the lore (I know), and didn't put as much attention into the reward system. They expected that it would take people longer to get to high level end game stuff, which you can see by the fact that they hand out such little rep for doing strikes. They expected it to take a long time and be a grind. And yet it didn't take long for people to get to 26-28.

Now people have reached the point where they're kind of stagnating or feel like they're not really getting anything for their time. Or what they are getting for their time (spinmetal, etc) isn't any fun to get. It seems like Bungie's expectations for players is not what the players expect or want. People want to be rewarded for their time and more importantly they want to see progress.

And I agree with people that say the variety of weapons, armor, etc. is too limited. They didn't put enough in the game and yet I fear that we will not see any more until the expansions come out. And who knows how much they will add. Could be a lot, but it also could be a small amount. I'm still enjoying the game but it seems like if they had the time to make fixes so quickly, why haven't they addressed some of the bigger issues already? Like rewards for strikes, matchmaking for weekly strikes, the list goes on.

That's what gets me. The amount of loot and types of loot are absolutely horribly disappointing. There are all of these cool aliens but somehow we can't get armor to look like them or use any types of weapons like theirs. It's just bizarre design decision after bizarre design decision. Maybe some cool stuff will come out in the DLC so I'll pop back in when those come out and hope that stuff has changed, until then I think I'm out :/

I don't understand the people saying legendaries are rare or that you needed the loot cave.

Just from marks and the queens missions its stupid easy to be full purple right now even if you've gotten zero drops.

35hrs in and I only have a legendary helm and chest. I bought the chest and I got the helm from queens mission. Now I have to grind to get enough marks to buy another legendary and hope that Xur has a good exotic for gauntlets or legs.

No, it's not "stupid easy"

Bungie decided to do this odd level your armor and level your weapons for light to 'level' up business and I think that is making it seem like less progress is made on 'fruitless' missions.

Part of the issue seems to be people are only playing the game for loot and not to actually play the game (i.e. the strikes and raids only have value insofar as they give me loot, not for their own merit).

Fruitless missions are zero progress.

I agree its not just about loot. The gameplay itself is actually quite fun, and really if it weren't for that I would have already quit. But there needs to be both sides. There needs to be some sense of reward, a factor of differentiation (I'm going to get different better gear and that will change the game to some small extent and keep things interesting) Without that element of progress, of change, repeating the same missions over and over eventually gets old no matter how fun the gameplay is.

I thought events would relieve this, and for the first few days of Queens it totally did. For once I felt like I was making real, notable progress. I was getting good frequent rewards for frequent play. Now that they took away the rewards, the event is basically over once you hit the rep you want for a shader or emblem, if you even want those. And without the evet the game is just the same old (actually worse now) largely fruitless grind, with fun but hollow gameplay.

Without good events, and with strikes and solo stuff hitting a wall at level 24, raiding is the entirety of the end game, and for those of us without 5 reliable friends that doesn't exist either.

How are any of the hotfixes implemented today good news?

The patch notes sound promising, but they aren't out yet. What benefit do players have today, or in the foreseeable future, from the changes made?

There are no benefits for people racing up in levels and advancement to flaunt their e-peens. It becomes more difficult, it's almost like they want to make you work for stuff! Fully leveled legendary gear becomes more rare because of this hot fix, that ain't bad for a game 2 weeks out. They took away things they, as the developers of the game, considered exploits. Today is their first step (and in all probability the only one they were able to implement immediately) in addressing the concerns raised by the community. I guess many see this as "bad". If this is bad then, way to go Bungie! Keep up the shitty work!

This part has nothing to do with the quote above but I also really don't get the posts about people spending literally days of time playing, grinding and shooting into caves and then saying they are tired of it or burned out on it. Duh, no shit? Any activity no matter how pleasurable becomes a grind after a while, don't believe me? Ask a porn star.

I don't think their fix was the best solution as it creates inconsistencies between legendary items and their materials, but the ease at which people could get the shards was definitely a problem. Shards and energy should be rare. Maybe not quite as rare as they are currently, but definitely not as easy to get as they were during the past couple of days. Legendary and exotic items are already way too easy to get by buying them at the tower so they might as well make it hard to actually upgrade those items.

They're not easy to get though, or as easy as you're making them out to be. Getting marks is a pain considering the amount you get per activity. Fastest way is to do public events and then you have to go out of your way to run around a map 'cheating' the system by knowing what's coming at what time since people have made timers.

Cheapest armor piece in vanguard is 65 marks, and you can get 1-2 per week if you go for marks exclusively sure, but destroying those only gives you 2-3 ascendant shards each time. Also you have to be level 2 in rep for armor and level 3 for weapons, which takes a time. And weapons cost like 150 marks so every 1.5 weeks if you exclusively only go for weapons which once again give you 2-3 mats per destruction. RNG legendary engrams I won't even bother with since I've gotten shit except for weapons.

And then there's Xur, who for warlocks brought the same item twice so I have yet to buy an exotic from him.

So as of right now with the current system it's a pain to get Ascendant shards, ascendant energy, and the only way to get legendaries/rare mats consistently is to do shit that takes a week for a chance at less than a handful each week.

I literally went over that in the second paragraph that you even quoted and responded to. You're not adding anything new to the conversation with this.
I'll clarify further... even if people farmed thinking the independent/per enemy drop rate was 10x higher than anywhere else, they would be wrong, but only technically. That distinction matters.
You think Bungie isn't aware that players will take the path of least resistance? Of course they are! They just didn't realize that the spawn time of those handful of cave spawn points (skywatch in particular) would lead to so many people standing there for hours on end. This is because they're literally building an entire game world with thousands of things that can interact in unintended ways. No game gets released without things that can get exploited like this. It's simply not possible until you have absolutely massive numbers of people playing the game 24/7 to find them.
Then why defend Bungie so regularly? Why apply or remove MMO-tropes arbitrarily depending on whether the label helps or hurts Bungie. First you blame players for poisoning the well, now it's matter of scope and ambition? How about that's not the issue people are discussing here? The problem isn't they didn't account for the rate at which enemies spawn from the cave, but the fact that ever had to make that change in the first place. Focus on the concatenation of events that would eventually lead to caves all over the world being patched. The patch is the treatment of the symptom and not the underlying disease. The problem isn't the exploit, it's everything else. Take for example the game I played before Destiny: Transistor. There is a fucntion combination in Transistor comprised of Jaunt(A)+Spark(U)*+Purge(U) that absolutely destroy everything in that game aside from bosses. I mean you would have to try your hardest to lose with those functions equipped. Yet I still experimented with all kinds of combinations during the entire game, but it was encouraged and designed for me to do so. Yet I don't feel similarly about Destiny -- why?

*It might have been Bounce, I don't remember.

FR's really aren't OHK since it's a burst and every part needs to hit in order to kill. And hip-firing is more effective for FR than using ADS. People are too mobile and charge rate is too slow for ADS to be the best choice.

FR fires once.

Hits you.

You die.

That to me is dying to one hit aka OHK.

At ranges of CQB to long mid aka shotty to AR range.

How does COD deal with this issue? people spend a ungodly amounts of hours playing that game.

just got to Level 20. uhhh... what do i do now?

Find items with light on them to level further.

Do the vanguard and crucible playlists in conjunction with bounties to level your vanguard and crucible ranks to buy better items.

Do daily/weekly heroics to grind strange coins for Xur.

I need to make 7K glimmer in the next 2:45 mins
what's the quickest way?

The Gunsmith has rare fusion rifles in stock. I need to purchase 5 :(

If you played crucible/strike playlist once you hit 20 you should easily have gotten enough marks for full purps, did you spend 10 hours at the cave? I don't get it. I'm not great and had no drop luck till after I had full purps in way way less hours than that.

Getting up to level 3 vanguard/crucible is hardcore though.

There's no skill involved though, it's just a time dump. If Bungie made the gear require certain requirements or goals to level up/improve I think that would be a cast improvement over material farming.

For example your exotic gear doesn't require glitter to farm up but for you to have 10 matches in the Crucible with a 2.0 kdr. That's infintely more interesting than waiting for a node to respawn and farm it.

That's just an example. You could make it so that you need to complete a Raid to level an exotic. As it stands now, the system is brain dead and just gives you a dog treat for however many hours you pump into it.

I'm not saying legendary and exotic items are easy enough to come by to get a good amount of shards from them. Just that there are currently already so many ways to get those items that you might as well make actually upgrading them more difficult so you don't just breeze through levelling up in no time. I definitely think there should be a more consistent way to get shards and energy, but the Queen's bounties made it way too easy and was clearly not intended that way. I abused the system too and got my fair share of shards, but I can accept that it's clearly not the way the game was supposed to be balanced.

Not hard to get burnt out when you're dealing with such a pathetically small amount of content.

It kept the guy he was referring to occupied for over 3 and a half days. I usually get 15 to 20 hours out of most games. Content seems just fine if not more than the average game. Titanfall at release had a pathetically small amount of content. Destiny has plenty of content with more coming.

I sense the same trajectory as my Candy Crush career:

Level 1 - wtf is going on
Level 5 - hey this is cool I like the sounds and music
Level 10 - I'm really good at this game
Level 20 - ok that was hard, but I did it. Not sure how though.
Level 40 - soo close! should I pay for a continue token
Level 60 - why am I stuck at this level, it looks like every other level
Level 80 - why am I playing
Level 100 - god this supermarket queue is taking for ever
Level 120 - I saw someone at level 150, I'll quit then
Level 140 - SCREW THIS I'm a rat pulling levers for dopamine shots, should have quit at level 20. *delete*

Getting up to level 3 vanguard/crucible is hardcore though.

Was only talking about armor but it's certainly not hard 5-6 of the vanguard bounties every day are button mashing level easy.

God forbid not everyone has full purps week 3 even though by far most people do.

Destiny has tons of problems but if anything legendaries should be more rare and should be coming from lv 24+ strikes not from dumbshit easy heroic dailies or low lv strikes

Just doing the heroic daily every day and 4-5 crucible matches a day + queens bounty is enough to be full purps right now.
