Funny thing is like... on paper, Borderlands and Destiny are like... the same game

FPS in which you pick a class and kill aliens with a variety of weapons many of which are extreme and outrageous, summon vehicles, progress through a light RPG leveling and skill tree system, do MMO-ish quests, and play with friends in search of better loot and adventure, eventually winding up at the Vault.

...does anyone think Borderlands and Destiny feel similar to play?

Borderlands is Diablo from an FPS perspective.

Destiny is Halo with stats and gear.

It's in my hands now.

Anyone else getting oddly behaved public events since the last update?

I've had a spam teleporting Vex that travelled the length of a zone in about 20 seconds and twice now I've had "Defend the Warsat" pop up, only for the marker to lead me to a Cabal Centurian.

Totally botched Xur this week, bought the helm and the engram and got another freaking helm :(

if Ive already got my 100 Vanguard points, can I still increase my other vendors?

I gotta say it too Hawkian, I love your posts cause they mirror my thoughts on the game exactly.

I share your posts on twitter because I really couldn't write it better myself. people have thisw eird expectation of Destiny to be the same kind of game as Diablo or Borderlands when it clearly isn't.

Destiny and Borderlands are basically the same though

I gonna have to think hard about this Surous Regime. Bungie said a nerf is coming and we don't know how bad it will be. Shadow Price might be good enough in that scenario. Next week should be Ice Breaker or Patience and Time, plz.

I'm so curious what you mean! I like Borderlands a lot. The things I like about it are like... completely far and away different from the things I like about Destiny.

I think ill pass on the suros. I have a fully upgraded shadow price with increased damage after reload and increased magazine. Ill save the coins for next week.

Did manage to get Achlyophage Symbiote helm for my hunter from exotic engram which is pretty good.

Right, I think I'm "Done" with gear now, sans raiding. Im a 28/29 Sunbro Lock.

I'm rocking a Suros Regime, Pocket Infinity, Super Good Advice and a couple of Legendary Snipers and Scout Rifles.

I'm in full Legendary Armour, most of which is fully upgraded, and I have the shards to get it all fully done, I have fully upgraded Exotic Sunbreakers too. I'm also rank 3 with the Vanguard and the Crucible.

Seems to me bar getting a Legendary Sparrow theres little left for me to farm for, with the exception of getting some alternate Exotics and maxing them out for the inevitable "you can now wear 2 exotics change).

Am I missing anything, or is it basically now, go raid or go home for upgrades?

Xur's Stock
Crest of Alpha Lupi - Titan Chest - 13 Strange Coins
Knucklehead Radar - Hunter Helm - 13 Strange Coins
Apotheosis Veil - Warlock Helm - 13 Strange Coins
Suros Regime - Auto Rifle - 23 Strange Coins
Exotic Engram - Helm - 23 Motes of Light

Notes:
  • If you're replacing an upgraded Legendary piece, DO NOT DISMANTLE IT. Eventually you may have multiple exotic armor pieces to switch between as the situation demands. You'll want your legendary to switch back to in these cases.
  • The Engram slot is, obviously, a random roll for armor type. Helms this week.
  • The Bounty step to advance Super Good Advice requires 1 Strange Coin; take this into account before any purchases.
  • Any week that you do not want anything from Xur's stock may feel disappointing when you are looking at it. However, this also means that you'll have a seed of at least 9 coins for the next time, and thus greater purchasing power when he does have one or more things you want. Eventually, simply "passing" on Xur's stock will be the easiest way to accrue strange coins.
Why did you think you'd get anything else? It's a helm engram.
That does boggle the mind...

Honestly, ARs will get nerfed but I doubt it will be that bad. People are overexaggerating. I'm sure Bungie understands that ARs will always be one of the most popular weapons in the game (or any shooter for that matter) because they are the most accessible. Making them complete shit wouldn't really make sense IMO. I think ARs will still be perfectly fine after the nerf.

yeah what I will do, is buy the engram for my motes. if it is a hunter helmet = great i saved coins! if it is for another class then great, i know which new character to make and can just buy the helmet for coins.

guaranteed progression baby!

Ugh. I don't know if I should get the Suros Regime or stick with me fully upgraded Monte Carlo.

And the Crest of Alpha Lupi looks cool and that revive teammates faster upgrade is great but my legendary armor has the other two upgrades already and it's two upgrades away from being fully upgraded.

Fuck it. Suros it is.

I ended up doing this last week with the Titan helm, bought the chest Engram and ended up getting another Titan Chest, which I haven't been able to use yet cause I don't have another Legendary Helm :(.

haha, yes. ARs right now are straight up competitive from sniper rifle to shotgun range. they just need a little toning down. They'll be fine.

Yeah, after I bought the Titan helm last week, I made sure to avoid dismantling my exotic Titan gauntlets and the legendary helmet that were replaced.

I wish you could equip multiple exotic gear because there is no reason me to get the titan chest cause it will take to long to upgrade.

It's not that my expectations are misplaced. I don't think it needs to play like Borderlands or Diablo. Hell, I've been trying to come around after being pretty disappointed with it launch week. I give it credit where its due. The PvP, as unbalanced as it is at times, is pure fun. I love it.

But the progression system makes no sense to me. Oh, I "understand" it - but how is all this randomness rewarding? Like, I genuinely feel kind of down right now after anticipating Xur all week. That's fine if Bungie wanted to experiment but i don't think a game should make people feel bad, lol. And I feel bad.

This isn't about entitlement or wanting the best gear now. I don't mind a "grind". I cut my teeth on WoW, for crying out loud. I'll mine for hours in Terraria! I'll race lap after after lap in GT. But something feels off about Destiny. But, hey, I'm happy for everyone who's moving along nicely. Guess the rnjesus didn't favor me today.

Both have

Hub Worlds that interconnected

Re-spawning bullet fodder

similar traversal mechanics

Even the encounter design is copy pasta

The only difference is the loot drop frequency is the opposite spectrum compared to Destiny and more and varied weapons

Destiny tries to be Borderlands but in a different way, I for one prefer Borderlands system waaaaay more.

Borderlands is Diablo from an FPS perspective.

Destiny is Halo with stats and gear.
Destiny wishes it would be Halo.

I was hoping to get boots from Xur as it's my only non-legendary right now. As a Warlock, no such luck. But I'm interested in the helm anyway since I have the Queen's helm which isn't so hot.

AR is gonna be nerfed anyways, might as well let everyone and their mother have one while it lasts

I'm seeing a lot of people salty that their lucky roll to get this AR is now irrelevant since everyone will buy one. I'm not saying it's you specifically, just in general. Unless they're just stealth trolling, lol.

Personally I think the nerf will only impact the AR big in PvP. I think in PvE it'll still be a great weapon to run, and until I can get that damn fire damage Raid Legendary scout rifle or the (void damage?) pulse rifle, this AR will do me just fine and FINALLY replace the blue scout rifle I've been rocking since like.... forever.

Can you spend motes of light on anything besides Xur engrams? Do they possibly give you a legendary? Or they just possibly give you the wrong class?

Just finished the bounty for Super Good Advice and am not impressed. It'll be the first exotic weapon that I just dump in the vault without even trying it out.

Every stat is worse than my Zombie Apocalypse except for firing rate, and its "exotic" skill (Almost all shots that miss their target will return to your magazine) is, in my opinion, useless because if I'm whipping out a heavy machine gun, I'm for damn sure making every shot count (like on a boss or something).

Well, there's no reason to spend motes this week for me. I already have an Exotic Helmet that I quite like. I would buy the engram just for ass shards but I rather wait for when the engram is for random class boots.

True. I will have 15 strange coins left after this so I can still get whatever gun is available next week if I want it.

the mechanics of the game are basically Halo.
running around, shooting, the enemies, the way things move/weapons reload stuff like that. the environments.

from the first second I saw the game it was basically "oh yeah, Halo".

The Speaker sells legendary class items and emblems for Motes of Light.

Never seen any exotic leg armor, do they exist in the game?
