Destiny |OT5| New patch out Tues., Master Rahool reportedly crying into his robes

Seriously FUCK that fucking sniper fucking queen fucking fucking bounty fuck.

First time it showed up, did it no problems. Now though, I hit people in the head but apparantly that doesn't count any more. I can't hit shit most matched and it's always putting me on maps with shit everywhere blocking sight lines making sniping impossible.

I've never understood sniping using a fucking pad. Auto Aim and auto tracking fucking ruins every shot you take.

I did it the second day, and I don't PVP. Wasn't fun at all in some of those spots. Would not do again.

Wouldnt Fireborn negate the Private Reserves perk on Apotheosis Veil (Xur's Exotic helm) or when you self-rez you have an over shield but still low health?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but do you have to play in the crucible to buy weapons/armor from the different factions?

I read Hawkian's guide, but couldn't quite understand that part.

Yes. The factions only take crucible marks. You'll get the package of legendary for getting them to level 2 & 3 after joining though. And both vanguard and crucible reputation will go towards your faction rep after joining.

I really wish they'd patch it so they take either type of marks. I don't like PvP and it seems silly that they take both types of rep but not marks.

Some are obsessed, but the games flaws will more than likely kill it before the holidays. We are currently in a massive games draught that is about to subside and October and November are jam packed with new shiny things that will take people away. Activision pushed for this game to be released early in September so that they could take advantage of this. They knew people wanted something and the said this is the best date to release the game. Bungie even came out and said that they couldn't get the Grimoire cards in game because they ran out of time. Activision picked the date to squeeze the orange as much as they could.

Crucible will be killed off by Halo/CoD and there are not enough people in love with it to keep them around.

PVE will be killed off by everything else as Bungie is going to try and milk everyone on the progression while not adding content. The next expansion is due in December.

Bungie had the chance to strike while the iron was hot and put a game out there that would really carry over for the next 10 years. Based on their DLC schedule, they hope that reskinned missions "Queen's Wrath" will keep people around while they fix broken things like no social system and a messy loot system.

I enjoy the game for what it is, but I am only playing it right now because I have nothing else to play.
aw man

Already nerfing your prediction from "dead by November" to "more than likely killed before the holidays"? :'(
I'd still like to try for her legendary sniper.
If you know what I mean.

They give exotics out like candy. There is nothing exotic about them.

That's a problem too, exotics should be something you hope to get. They should be unique and super powerful.

That didnt really answer my question, but if they weaken the power for PvE then Im gonna have to start saving up marks for Devil You Know. Right now I switch up between Shingen and Galahad, but if Bungie is gonna shwheel the power of AR's, then I gotta head back to Handcannon Town.

Edit: Thanks Victory Red, Lik and purg!

I've been using the handcannon a lot in PVP, I use the Lord High Fixer. 13 rounds with the mod and crazy damage on precision shots. So much fun to use. I'm also really looking forward to the Scout Rifle buff.

You know what, you are completely right about this. I'm not positive I actually understand your solution- I'm still unclear on how you "work toward" BIS items in Diablo 3- but I am all for it. As long as I won't be required to rely on RNG any more than I am now, I say it's a great idea.

I think the best way to describe it is like this:

You get to a point where you're wearing all legendaries in Diablo 3, but most of them are going to be subpar versions of themselves. Now, you're not working toward it like you would work toward buying a new game console. You're not saving up money. You're like... gold panning. You're sifting through stuff, finding little bits of gold and every time you find one it's awesome. But you're hoping to run into a nice big nugget. And when you find that, if you find that, it's amazing. When you're getting a legendary fairly often, you're more likely to come across at least a slightly better one. As you get better gear, the number of items that you do away with increases, but it's still cool when you find them =p

Destiny would be able to do that, while still catering to those down on their luck with the vendors. That's actually what I expected the endgame to work like, and looking at legendary items it feels like that's what they were made for. The distribution of drops just doesn't support it for some reason.

Hmm, I would really love to do some detailed testing in a controlled PvP match.

I thought the impact stat does affect how much damage you're doing in the crucible and is represented by the damage numbers. I know attack numbers don't mean anything, an uncommon rifle and an exotic one will do the same exact damage but only if their impact stats are exactly the same. The faster firing rifles have really low impact, thus really low damage numbers when getting hits, but the faster fire rate evens it out.

I would like Bungie to go in-depth on the impact stat, since I've read around that your time to kill (TTK) is improved the higher your impact stat on ARs for PVP.

If I can gather up 5 others willing to do some testing on Rumble, then I'll try out different ARs, uncommon, rare and my Suros then post up a video some time this weekend or next week with results.

I play with this Hard Light.

Better Impact make the Suro Regime a better choice? I can increase Stability of my HL to close to 95% decreasing the range a bit.

Wow, sick toy you have!
I'm still stuck with a fucking green level 18 auto-rifle (i'm almost at level 26), i'm not having luck with those. D:

(Just catching up)

Shotguns nerfed at longer ranges: Great.
Scout Rifles buffed: Great.
Loot cave closed: Great.
More voice communication: Great.
Changing Cryphtarch... Need more info.

But NERFING ARs? Nooooooooooo!

they are just nerfing it it to be less effective at long range, which is the domain of scout rifles

...on that note, I know I am probably developing an "anti-engram-farming" reputation but that's not it at all- I legitimately don't believe it'll ever be the most efficient way to spend your time in this game, but it has its place! And so as your humble servant it is my duty to mention that while the precious cave may be destroyed, We've Woken the Hive farming is still alive and well. I'm not using it for farming, it's just perfect for all manner of "kill enemies" variations for bounties. But nonetheless whatever they did in the patch does not seem to have reduced drops to my eyes; if anything, anecdotally I'm getting slightly more than the last time I did this. Try to stay alive for a while before letting yourself get killed, I guess.

You know what, you are completely right about this. I'm not positive I actually understand your solution- I'm still unclear on how you "work toward" BIS items in Diablo 3- but I am all for it. As long as I won't be required to rely on RNG any more than I am now, I say it's a great idea.

I'm mostly quoting this cause your mega post is too damn long to quote but...

I mostly agree with you? I think the post 20 leveling is kind of split between 20-23 then 24+ where the 20-23 stage is pretty RNG heavy. You have to start doing strikes (or farm engrams) to get rares that give you light that let you inch your way up from 20. The strike rewards are still fairly random and I felt it was mostly luck based that I was making progress from level 20.

There's that bit but then there's the 24 and on section. From what I'm finding, the easiest way for me to progress (I'm Level 23 currently) is to get to Vanguard Rank 2 and get my Vanguard gear. It's dramatically better and will let me hop through the levels much quicker. There's a slight restriction on it but it was easily help me through Light levels enough to do 24+ content. At that point I can actually get decent value out of the weekly Heroic and Queen stuff.

Currently I feel capped at 23 until I get Vanguard Rank 2. Maybe I am wrong but that is just my perspective currently.

Also I don't have friends to help me do the weekly so womp.

Hmm.. Suros or one of the Vanguard Guardmaster ARs? I'm about to hit level 3 Vanguard and I'm debating whether to use my strange coins on the Suros or just use my Vanguard marks on it and save my strange coins for either the helm or wait till next week.

Is the Suros really that much better than a Doctor Nope or the Shadow Price?

Why bother nerfing hand cannons or fusion rifles. ARs and shotties are much scarier. Whatever Bungie.

Like I mentioned before, Bungie doesn't know why they're nerfing things. They're just nerfing Shotguns only to be replaced by Fusion Rifles, ARs only to be replaced by Hand Canons/Scout rifles.

The main issue is that you can start out with these weapons. In Halo, the shotty was balanced because you had to pick it up, and it was limited. Assault Rifles were extremely inaccurate at long distance due to a lack of ADS.

In a game that has ADS and Shotguns available on start...they didn't realize that this would cause issues. So they've been having to nerf since the beta/alpha, and there will probably be more nerfs to come.

So I hit 27 this morning. I have a feeling getting to 28 let alone 30 is going to take awhile. The only issue I really have is ascendant shards.

As far as I know there are a couple ways to get them. One is to disenchange legendary and above. Since legendaries are rarely legendaries and now that the loot cave is gone there are even less legendary drops that is out. I don't mind the patch but I wish you could still disenchant the queens rewards. At this point I don't need anything from her and I could get a few shards a day from her gear.

The next way is public events. What I am unclear of is if you only get a reward once a day. I know the postmaster only rewards once a day, but I read somewhere that you can an event on each planet and still get a reward. Sadly this morning I tried it and ended up with zip on the second planet. Maybe it is random after the first planet.

The third way I can think of is to spend strange coins and motes on stuff from xur. 13 coins nets you an exotic and 23(might be 25) motes of light gets you an exotic engram.

The last way I can think of is to turn in rewards via vanguard/faction and then disenchant their legendaries.

I guess what I am looking for is a way to farm shards. Even if I could only get 5 a day it wouldn't be so awful. If my memory serves me I need around 84 shards to hit 30.

On the plus side farming helium, spirit bloom, relic iron, and spinmetal are a breeze. Maybe I should look into getting 100 vanguard/crucible marks a week and that would net me 2 legendaries and some weeks 4.

Anybody have an easier way?

So is anyone still bothering with the Queen bounties now that her mission rewards are useless?

The vendor only sells crap weapons and cosmetic items :/. Why would I grind rep for that...

You can passively get rep. For example, yesterday there was a Vanguard bounty for completing a strike without dying (100 Rep, 5,000 exp). Queen had a bounty to kill Sepiks Prime (100 Rep, forgot exp). I picked both and got 2 for 1.

You can pick a few that will coincide with what you are doing anyway. Not sure if it will be worth it in the long run, but if you get a legendary at rank 3 then why not?

I'm definitely down to do this. I love testing out this kind of stuff so let me know when you're planning on doing it. I'm pretty sure we played together a couple weeks ago and we're already on each other's friends list. PSN is MusiqueDJ.

Also guys, I've evaluated (in PVE) that AR with the ADS Damage buff is great DPS, possibly more consistent than a Scout Rifle and definitely a regular AR in PVE. Suros is very, very good in PVE.

As for PVP, I'm keeping my Shingen E for more "enfilade" maps and Suros for the larger, ranged maps.

Also it took me three dismantled Queen's Wrath legendaries to realise that I wasn't going to get any Ascendant Shards (the only reason I was doing the bounties in the first place). So that's super frustrating.

Warlock Helm this time from the Exotic Engram. Last time I got an Hunter chest piece. I play a Titan but maybe I should start playing my Warlock (the Helm looks very nice).

got this too. in the vault it goes till i play a warlock i spose

Ahh I don't know if I should buy the Suros. My legendary auto rifle is pretty good and I have a exotic Shotgun (invective). If I get the Suros then I won't have a legendary secondary..

Decisions decisions..

Woah, I just got three legendary engrams from my buddy the postmaster for leveling up cryptarch level with my bro Rahool. So the higher the Cryptarch rank the better quality engrams from the postmaster I guess.

Your raw DPS is really just a function of your Impact and Rate of Fire. Attack is not a damage stat, it is a level penetration stat. If you are considered equal or higher level to what your bullets are hitting, the Attack rating is not used in calculating damage. This obviously is only an examination of bullets striking target; Stability has a more abstract effect on your actual damage, and Range determines the distance a projectile can travel before the damage begins to scale back per unit traveled.

Dammit the suros regime is up for grabs and I don't have the coins! What's the best strange coin payout GAF? I need 12 in two days

Weekly heroic on highest difficulty gets you 9. Other than that, your best bet is hoping blue or purple engrams give you some coins. Nightfall and public events also can give coins.

I think you covered it.

I've actually had very little luck with the whole public event thing. I can't ever find them anywhere but on the moon because there's no in-game map to help me figure out where the fuck I am.

I'm contemplating rolling a Titan and Hunter just to camp the easy moon public events that pop up near the spawn location.

No they should not. And thankfully Bungie agrees on that.

I'm comparing more to diablo when they buffed legendary items and made them actually fun to use and clearly separated them from standard rare items.

Right now I'd say there are only 1 or 2 exotic weapons that are worth using.

This would be good to know, I wouldn't mind being a target dummy for science
of destiny stuff
.

If you farm the spirit bloom/chest area on venus (go just left once you appear on the planet and then go forward) there are a couple that appear in that area.

Argh, done a public event this morning at gold tier, later ran into another, got back to the tower to find no public event reward.

Still looks like the reward is bugged if you do more than one before going back to the tower.
