Destiny |OT5| New patch out Tues., Master Rahool reportedly crying into his robes

Why is it risky? What else are you going to spend motes on besides clothes from the speaker? If you buy one and it isn't for your class, you either vault it for an alt or dismantle. So worse case you bought something for an alt or bought ascendant materials which is a great investment.

I had forgotten that raid gear has a max of 30 light so you don't need an exotic piece to reach 30, which was why I said it was risky because I had previously thought you had to have an exotic piece of armor to reach 30 and I had forgotten that it isn't the case.

Replying to this again with pictures. It definitely does increase the damage.

Here's a pic of me getting headshots with it before the upgrade. 34 damage.

And here's a screengrab from a youtube video with someone who does have the upgrade. 43 damage.

Exactly. I tested it vs a normal AR with same stats aside from range. In close to medium situations the damage is 45 points for the Suros conpared to 34 for the Galahad-E.

Yup, the wording on the description isn't clear. All it says is increased damage but it definitely has to be upping the impact.

Now the question is whether the trade off of slower fire rate for a little additional damage is worth it. Or if it's better to keep the higher rate.

I prefer faster FR. I'm gonna switch back to Galahad tonight and see if I do better.

I agree with all of this, and thanks for reading. Especially the psychological effects of farming engrams because of what we're all accustomed to. People are already using the next engram farm despite continuing to decry the RNG!

The way I'd have done it with the factions/vanguard/crucible is like when you hit 18 (and can start earning marks) you get a choice of special bounties- like the exotic bounty selector. The bounty would have simple instructions along the lines of "Begin earning Reputation for your chosen Faction" and allow you to pick Vanguard or Crucible and have a simple bounty that rewarded about half a rank, thus communicating the "Rep to progress" thing a little more intuitively.

I was just shooting from the hip with my suggestions. Bottom line is that the game needs to do a better job of getting players familiarized and invested in faction reputation well before the end game so players naturally gravitate to it when regular XP leveling ends.

Once people unlock the upgrade to decrease the fire rate, but increased damaged (the damage won't matter in normal Crucible since everything is normalized), the weapon will likely lose to a Shingen or Galahad, even a hand cannon.

Again, damage does not matter in normal Crucible. If you want stats to matter, you play in the Iron Banner in October to see how strong your gear really is against other players. IB is going to be a blood bath, I'm sure of it.

How do we know what stat "increased damage" actually increases? Isn't Damage a function of Impact and Attack? If that Suros evolution increases Impact then it is making a difference in normal Crucible.

I guess we just need to have someone run tests and find out exactly what it is increasing, unless we already know.

I don't really get the point of doing that in PVE there are strong options all around. Hand cannons can do serious damage at range for one.

I haven't post in these Destiny threads but I thought I would share my experience playing with a family member just for curiosity sake and to say hi to my good GAFfers.

He's a very casual player and Destiny is just the right game for him. He's not very good at FPS so the online portion is the worst part for him, yet, every now and then he does one or two matches to see "If I get lucky with an item". Married and with a kid, many times he ended booting up Destiny just to do a bounty, do some patrol missions or grab some materials. He's not rushing and he loves checking the new fancy weapons others manage to get while he's in the Tower.

He does not like that Cryptarch guy, hehe. The game is now played by him on a daily basis or simply when possible. When he turn on his console, he always request or make an invite to the Party Chat, ask what I'm doing and then we tag along. By not being a great FPS player I try to help and do other harder missions/strikes with him. It's all about the fun in the end and family fun is great. He can't wait for new ships, more good looking items to wear and new story missions, content, etc. I just think it's great to see people having fun no matter the age. I've seen plenty of rage and hate towards the game (regarding the loot and grind) and I can respect that but in the end, it's an hobby and it's supposed to be fun. I've seen many people playing for items, farming for hours so it's normal for them to feel the need to rest, take a step back and either play a different game or do something else. Moderation is key and when playing in short bursts the experience can be much rewarding.

I just hope that, one way or another for all those who bought the game find a way to keep having fun. Because that is the most crucial part when playing and I couldn't have the passion of this fine hobby if I wasn't having fun and it felt like playing is now a chore to level up or increase some sort of stats.

good question, I'm sure they will. I agree on nerfing auto rifles in some aspect but the exotic versions should be left alone, because otherwise whats the point of wasting the exotic slot if it's really not going to be any better than a blue or legendary?

They give exotics out like candy. There is nothing exotic about them.

Yea that is the thing they need to strike a balance in this for is PVE players. AR is my go to.

That didnt really answer my question, but if they weaken the power for PvE then Im gonna have to start saving up marks for Devil You Know. Right now I switch up between Shingen and Galahad, but if Bungie is gonna shwheel the power of AR's, then I gotta head back to Handcannon Town.

Edit: Thanks Victory Red, Lik and purg!

I just looked at the exotic armour site that lists all the titan stuff available and.. I just realised I have half of the exotics available to them in my vault :L

Can you get strange coins for doing both the weekly heroic (6) and the nightfall strike (9) in one week (for a total of 15), or do you only get strange coins for whichever you complete first?

Level 28 weekly strike guarantees 9 strange coins. Nightfall rewards are random...

Why would anyone do the Queen's Wrath missions now? For a third copy of a helmet that's worse than the one I already own?

Seems it's just meant for those of us lagging behind our friends that play more. I'm level 25 but only have legendary boots and chest, so I need to knock out some to try and get helm and gauntlets.

Is that the "We've Woken The Hive" door?
WE'VE WOKEN THE HIVE

i'm not going to like, Dinklebot saying that over and over and the role this door plays as an occasional stop on my journeys has memetically become something I really like about this game XD it's just so silly, the thralls never learn.

WE'VE WOKEN THE HIVE

That's what I'm saying hand cannon is very strong at distance in PVE so why the need to nerf AR in PVE. I got Devil You Know last night. Guess I'll hold on to it.

Just a friendly reminder to anyone short on coins - if you've already done the weekly strike you can still do it on a different difficulty setting for more coins :) (3 from 22, 3 from 24 and 3 from 28) for a total of 9.

Sweet. Thanks! Yeah, I've looked up the Speaker's stock and didn't see any must haves. I think I'm going to dice roll on the exotic engram and if I don't get the right helm, I'll just buy the one in stock with Strange Coins.

Yeah, if you are playing other characters, it's not the worst thing in the world. But if you are only playing one (like myself), I will choose to not gamble right now. Figure I'll wait.

Also, my gun shop was selling rare fusion rifles yesterday. But 10 (all I had enough for) in hopes that I get that Exotic Bounty where I need to dismantle 15 rare fusion rifles, haha.

Wait, so the auto rifle nerf went into effect with yesterday's patch? I thought the nerf would come down the line.

Also, yesterday, I was looking for relic iron on Mars and came into a realization. Maybe it was because I was uploading a video on youtube and using up bandwidth, but I was alone on Mars and felt it. Here I was doing what most would consider a meaningless task with a carrot dangling in front of my face in hopes of upgrading my exotic Sunbreakers. I've done similar tasks in MMOs, such as getting leather in WoW or getting dna samples in The Old Republic, but neither of those games made me feel as alone as I did yesterday playing Destiny save for one time: when TOR was shutting down old servers. I had to log into a Sith Juggernaut to make sure it was transferred for free. I ran around huge zones that used to be populated with people milling around with a chat channel that only had one person - me, Darth Rezren.

While that experience in TOR was surreal and temporary, I played Destiny last night for less than an hour and the pang of lonliness was strong. I raid and do heroic weeklies with folks from GAF. I guess I had been doing heroic dailies with folks too, because I had no motivation to do mine alone regardless of how badly I need Ascendant materials. I'm level 28 edging to level 29 to tackle the heroic VoG, and I think that's my only motivation in the game at the moment.

I know this game isn't a MMO, but it borrows a lot of traits from them while avoiding some of the essential parts. I can't believe I was on Mars and wishing I could have a general chat filled with trolls and scammers.

It rewarded me with 12 shards. Nothing is guaranteed.
It's:

-Legendary
-Exotic
-10-12 ascendant shards or energy
-6-10 strange coins

Seems it's just meant for those of us lagging behind our friends that play more. I'm level 25 but only have legendary boots and chest, so I need to knock out some to try and get helm and gauntlets.
There's no gauntlet, but the helm will get you comfortably to 26+.

Denied. I did the Nightfall last night and while my friend scored 10 Strange Coins, I ended up with an exotic Titan helm. The one where enemies become blinded when they enter your defense bubble.

I hear this helmet is massively sought out and if there were a trade system I wouldve totally given it someone.

But I dismantled that bitch for ass shards =D

this is a great time to ask about the different codex toggles for PVP situations. would those factor into damage?

Can NEVER have enough ass shards.

I know, it's showing you the increased damage from modifiers but those are misleading because you aren't actually causing those damage numbers to the end user. It's hard to explain, but Bungie shouldn't put damage numbers in normal Crucible at all. Everything, and I mean everything is balanced - doesn't matter if you have an uncommon Shingen or a Suros, you can still trade kills head to head in full health situations.

Hmm, I would really love to do some detailed testing in a controlled PvP match.

I thought the impact stat does affect how much damage you're doing in the crucible and is represented by the damage numbers. I know attack numbers don't mean anything, an uncommon rifle and an exotic one will do the same exact damage but only if their impact stats are exactly the same. The faster firing rifles have really low impact, thus really low damage numbers when getting hits, but the faster fire rate evens it out.

AR and shotty were nerfed already? Didn't notice a big difference since I'm an up close and personal kinda Titan.

Yea that's the saint helm. Wanted it for when I play my Defender class so I bought the exotic engram hoping I may get it and ended up with a warlock helmet instead. Shit got dismantled for shards lol.

Xur's Stock
Crest of Alpha Lupi - Titan Chest - 13 Strange Coins
Knucklehead Radar - Hunter Helm - 13 Strange Coins
Apotheosis Veil - Warlock Helm - 13 Strange Coins
Suros Regime - Auto Rifle - 23 Strange Coins
Exotic Engram - Helm - 23 Motes of Light

Notes:
  • If you're replacing an upgraded Legendary piece, DO NOT DISMANTLE IT. Eventually you may have multiple exotic armor pieces to switch between as the situation demands. You'll want your legendary to switch back to in these cases.
  • The Engram slot is, obviously, a random roll for armor type. Helms this week.
  • The Bounty step to advance Super Good Advice requires 1 Strange Coin; take this into account before any purchases.
  • Any week that you do not want anything from Xur's stock may feel disappointing when you are looking at it. However, this also means that you'll have a seed of at least 9 coins for the next time, and thus greater purchasing power when he does have one or more things you want. Eventually, simply "passing" on Xur's stock will be the easiest way to accrue strange coins.

That does boggle the mind...

When I saw this block quoted I knew it was Hawkian. Thanks as always.

WE'VE WOKEN THE HIVE

whenever my friend and i encounter some strange/difficult/funny situation in the game we immediately shout WE'VE WOKEN THE HIIIIIIVE!

we once rounded a corner in PvP to see the entire enemy team in front of us, turned around and ran away while shouting OHHHH SHIIIIIT WE'VE WOKEN THE HIIIIIIIIVE

Boo, I really really really wish there was a trading system or something. Now, I hope Xur is selling that helm next week for us Defender Titans.

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but do you have to play in the crucible to buy weapons/armor from the different factions?

I read Hawkian's guide, but couldn't quite understand that part.

There's no gauntlet, but the helm will get you comfortably to 26+.

Good to know. I'll try for the helm and stop with the missions if I get it since I don't need the chest piece or care about ships.

Yeah I agree, to me it makes sense that impact still matters in PvP

Seriously FUCK that fucking sniper fucking queen fucking fucking bounty fuck.

First time it showed up, did it no problems. Now though, I hit people in the head but apparantly that doesn't count any more. I can't hit shit most matched and it's always putting me on maps with shit everywhere blocking sight lines making sniping impossible.

I've never understood sniping using a fucking pad. Auto Aim and auto tracking fucking ruins every shot you take.

I've been using The Devil You Know as my primary in PVE for the last few days and it's excellent. I've done weekly and daily missions and it's never let me down yet. It's as powerful as a scout rifle, has a mag of 12 and is great even at distance.

It is obvious that some people are addicted to the game. Whether the game will be regarded as successful by Bungie/Activsion executives merely depends on the numbers of those people. All else is mere detail.

Some are obsessed, but the games flaws will more than likely kill it before the holidays. We are currently in a massive games draught that is about to subside and October and November are jam packed with new shiny things that will take people away. Activision pushed for this game to be released early in September so that they could take advantage of this. They knew people wanted something and the said this is the best date to release the game. Bungie even came out and said that they couldn't get the Grimoire cards in game because they ran out of time. Activision picked the date to squeeze the orange as much as they could.

Crucible will be killed off by Halo/CoD and there are not enough people in love with it to keep them around.

PVE will be killed off by everything else as Bungie is going to try and milk everyone on the progression while not adding content. The next expansion is due in December.

Bungie had the chance to strike while the iron was hot and put a game out there that would really carry over for the next 10 years. Based on their DLC schedule, they hope that reskinned missions "Queen's Wrath" will keep people around while they fix broken things like no social system and a messy loot system.

I enjoy the game for what it is, but I am only playing it right now because I have nothing else to play.

(Just catching up)

Shotguns nerfed at longer ranges: Great.
Scout Rifles buffed: Great.
Loot cave closed: Great.
More voice communication: Great.
Changing Cryphtarch... Need more info.

But NERFING ARs? Nooooooooooo!

Yeah, you have to. Factions only take Crucible marks.
I wish I'd made that more clear. I can't edit it unfortunately :(

For the moment, Factions are primarily for PvP or Split PvE-PvP players only. The only non-crucible way to earn Cru Marks is just atrocious.

yup. nailed it.
