New Driveclub gameplay

Game is out in a few. All shall be known.

I do like anticipation and figuring stuff out though. It's hard to avoid, and at least we're talking about the game, what else is there to do?

Look what I've found in the settings menu from the beta:
slection_017lbj7h.png

(it says "Cockpit camera Y-axis", in case French's killing you)

What we're seeing here, guys, is the Low driver position.

Loving that. Especially the third person camera options, too often it's too low in racing games.

edit: whats the other stuff say?
Code:
Settings (gameplay)
- Transmission
- View in turn*
- Chase camera X axis
- Chase camera Y axis
- Cockpit camera Y axis
- Restore default values
- Reset tutorial

* I guess this setting is what was discussed some posts back, about the camera not being stuck to the car's rear in the turn.

No. It's for the Y axis control when in cockpit view.

"Look into corner" is also for the cockpit view, so that the camera turns slightly when approaching a corner.

The game looks fantastic but there's no way that's the IQ of the final game. I fully expect the IQ of the game to be similar to what we've seen in the direct feed screenshots before (still great) with perhaps the power lines fixed a bit, if that.

Okay, I get it now.

There goes my cool theory. :p
Doesn't matter anyway, the segment is from trailer parts of the b-roll. Not gameplay, it immediately jump-cuts to a head-on external view of the car. It would be like gifing that external view and going 'this isn't gameplay' :P

It does seem like that. This whole footage is so confusing. Too many cuts between "gameplay" and trailer and they all look visually indistinguishable. Need to use deduction to figure out what is gameplay and what isn't. Assuming any of it is gameplay to begin with. Argh the suspense is killing me!

If the version they send to reviewers has that 3 seconds timer as default this game will get crushed by reviewers. Most of them probably can't drive very well and just by watching some videos I get annoyed with the timer.

It is a terrible idea to start that timer immediately after you are off course. It is pretty annoying even on FPS when they do that and it doesn't happen as frequently.

We getting direct feed gameplay from gamersyde soon of the final build.

There must be a way to turn off track reset, it's horrible. Hopefully they'll patch it in if enough people make noise.

Facing backwards, stationary, against the side rail then yeah, I could understand it but facing forwards at 90mph after you got pushed to the side? Nah, mate.

It's ridiculous that console racers still don't have fully customizable gameplay cameras - we should be able to use the free camera and lock in our preferred viewpoint, adjust FOV, etc.

Get it sorted Rushy.

I hate to be honest, and I know this is tough to hear, but here are some of my concerns about Driveclub. Evolution really dropped the ball on DRIVCLUB
I hope I am doing this right :p

1. The AI is too predictable. When I look far ahead, I see where my opponent is, and I can decide to go left or right. I can plan how I want to pass him. When I look at my rear view mirror, I can see if they are approaching me on my left or right, and move accordingly to block them. A real racing game like Pole Position at the arcades or on the Atari 2600 has your opponents pop up just a few frames ahead of you. With this unpredictable AI, it really challenges your twitch fibers, leaving you only a split second to decide how you want to pass them. Some may call this unfair, I call this a real racing challenge.

2. Driveclub restricts the direction you are going to go. I dont look at it like corridor racing, this is like line queue racing. It resembles waiting in line for your favorite amusement park ride, except you are allowed to pass or line jump. The game funnels you towards your destination, which instead of being some fun ride or to pick up a preorder at a Midnight Launch, you reach a finish line. Pretty anticlimatic. At least in a game like Burnout Paradise, I jump the line queue and get to the end however I want, flipping my finger at the rest being herded like sheep.

3. The Draw Distance and course sizes are too shallow. A true classic racing game like Rad Racer on NES shows a city so far off into the distance, you can race towards it for nearly 5 minutes, and never get any closer to it. Showing off this massive world that Driveclub simply cannot duplicate.

4. The Car Handling restricts itself to what it feels like on 4 wheels. So boring, I drive 35 MPH every day to work and back. I know what it feels like to drive on 4 wheels. At least with a game like Wipeout, they challenge physics, allowing me to be amazed by the wonderment of anti gravitational racing. Come on Revolution, remove the wheels, let these cars float and challenge what most racing games have become, driving on 4 wheels. And I didn't even get to weapons, which I can save for my impressions after the game releases. I dont see any guns or missiles on the cars like Wipeout has.

5. And to piggyback point 4, Driveclub restricts you to 4 wheels. A game like MOTO GP allows me to race motorcycles. Driveclub doesn't do this. Wave Racer lets me abandon the open road to hop on a jet ski and race the unpredictable waters of a colorful fictional world filled with rainbows and dolphins. On Driveclub, you only get to look at the water, while flying past it at fantastic senses of speed. What fun is that? Where are the jet skis?

6. Driveclub makes me turn on the music, since it is turned off by default. You have this amazing hit "How Fast Do You Wanna Go?" a song I sing on the way to work, in the shower, while cooking dinner. I want that song to play all the time. Games in the NFS series have the music on by default, not challenging me to navigate menus to hear the music blaring while I race. Do you really want to hear some of the most realistic car audio ever recorded instead of "How Fast Do You Wanna Go?"

7. Driveclub's interior car view is too stale. Twisted Metal 1's interior car view on PSOne showed driver character. Sure its not a racing game, but you drive cars in it. The Taxi had fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror, there was junk all over the dash. You mean to tell me someone is going to buy a $500,000 car, race around, and not have one empty Slim Jim package laying on the dash? Racer car drivers are people too.

If only DRIVECLUB was more like NFS, Wipeout, Pole Position, Rad Racer, Moto GP, Twisted Metal 1, Burnout, & Wave Racer, all wrapped up into one. Then, it could be a true racer, a real "next gen" racing contender.
/s I am so hyped for this game, just as it is.

You have to be off the track for 3 whole seconds lol. You shouldn't need to be off the track for that long. Hell, most corner cutting doesn't even start the timer.

What if the game lets you move your side mirrors like in a real car?

But for reals, just because part of the car is in the side mirror means nothing, necessarily. It doesn't take extra power to do a little trick and have part of the car visible in the side mirror, it would just take a little programmer & artist manual care.

But hey if the game doesn't turn out to have this good IQ it'll still be great. Just, I won't trust Rushy on Twitter again :P

The mirror discussion is thoroughly entertaining, and makes me wonder how many of the participants here actually own cars. I generally adjust my mirrors so that little, if any, of my own car is visible from my normal driving position. What would be the point? I know what my car looks like and it isn't going to move. I want to get as wide a view as possible of what's beside me. Of course it varies a little from car to car. It's hard to get a respectable view in our Boxster without getting more of the car than it is in our Model S.

Man, there are going to be meltdowns on gaf when reviews hit.

It's been hyped to the point where no score will please fans. It will be madness I tell you.

I'm waiting for the usual IGN "It does nothing new" review, right before giving the next COD a 10/10.

For some reason I am feeling overwhelmed when I look at the gifs/videos. Too many objects or too much stuff on screen to pay attention to any of them.

I have part of my car visible in my side mirrors. It gives me more perspective as to where things are in relation to my vehicle.

I know ... God only knows how people drive real cars through the lake district or the peak district! There must be crashed cars and bodies everywhere.

Funny note, but I first experienced this when playing the first previous gen games like Kameo, despite being a gamer since the 80's. Eventually my eyes got used to it. The jump to PS4 also did this to me, namely in Killzone Shadow Fall, but I've already adapted again. I love that these systems can push out so much detail as to dazzle me & make my brain work harder.

I only care how gamers like it. Reviews are not needed these days.

Do you drive in real life? I do, but this is a video game and for the first time a game where I am not able to pay attention to all the stuff going on screen. I hope I explained my point.

Same. I don't see the problem with that.

It's not a problem, obviously, it's just the expectation that you're going to have more than a sliver of your car in the mirror that seems odd to me. Certainly not worth all the pixel peeping investigation that went on for a page or more here. To each their own, I guess.

Actually, the gameplay hasn't really been hyped all that much. More so the visuals. Gameplay looks should but not astounding. I don't think anybody is expecting fantastic review scores.

I think you have misunderstood the point of that discussion. The reason it came up was because evo had said earlier that car self-reflections were deliberately removed from mirrors so that players get a full view. Now objects are deliberately in the way, which brings up the question of whether it's not gameplay or if they just decided to change their stance on it and opt for realism

Looks good but I don't think is going to sell well

I think it will sell very well, and I also think Sony will keep it on PS+ for longer than a month. People will try the PS+ version and then upgrade which means a hell of a lot of sales are likely to be digital. It will be a slow burner but a successful game.

I don't people expect the game to score high only average.
