Cronos: The New Dawn - Official Gameplay Reveal Trailer

enemies look boring. gameplay loop is just the guy slow walk and shoot the monsters in the faces?

did blooper re-use their SH assets?

The initial reveal trailer got me interested in the game but this gameplay reveal did the opposite.
What's its hook / catch? Not feeling it right now. Hope I am wrong.

This game looks like The Medium was for Silent Hill, but for Dead Space. But I'm a sucker for Dead Space so I'm all here for it, since EA doesn't seem interested in remaking Dead Space 2 or making a sequel or reboot. I was day one with Callisto Protocol and, even though it had its lows, it was also a game I enjoyed a lot. So, I'll be here day one for Cronos too.

Bloober seems like a company that deserves more chances. Their output seems crazy if they can launch this game a year after Silent Hill 2. And Silent Hill 2 was a mega-surprise for a lot of people. Hopefully they keep maturing and improving.

Nice!!! This, hands down, is the most hype-inducing trailer I've seen this year. Loved every shot of the trailer. Trying not to let the monsters merge during bigger fights should also provide some nice combat dynamics, unlike anything we've played in the survival horror genre.

Did you just compare an American, kinda modern, realistic setting to a retro-futuristic time travel to 1980s Poland? What stretch.

Maybe you could rewatch the trailer. We've seen a "frozen in time" puzzle, some anti-gravity traversal, something about extracting NPCs from the past... But yeah, shooting monsters in the face is an important part of the gameplay loop in all survival and action horrors.

It looked like the player just face tanked every hit but they just cut it out.
Is there any mechanic to dodge or block?

Yeah this gives me strong Dead Space vibes.

Silent Hill 2 remake was easily my game of the year last year, I was absolutely engrossed in it from start to finish. I think they have learned a lot and came a long way in recent years and this looks solid so far.

Very high quality visuals to say the absolute lesat about that trailer.

The earlier trailer looked good, and so does this. Bloober certainly earned some level of trust with SH2 remake. Maybe it'll be the game Callisto Protocol wanted to be, a good action survival horror game.

Callisto Protocol crashed and burned so badly, it took Dead Space Remake with it... and could have potentially taken the whole survival horror genre down with it.

Fortunately, SH2 came along and showed everybody that there's still hope.

I pray that this game is good, as survival horror games just started to pick back up in the past 5 years or so (almost entirely thanks to Resident Evil).

I was never a big Bloober fan, but from what I've seen of SH2R they did nail that. Now that's a remake, they didn't create those creatures and what not, but maybe Cronos can be their first truly great game that isn't a remake.

This looks juicy. I love the time travel plot and feel like they're gonna do a lot of cool shit with it. I wonder if the guy you meet in the last scene might be yourself from a different time?

The time travel thing and warnings reminds me of 12 Monkeys as well. Kind of forgotten movie by now it seems but it made a big impression on me when it came out and it was grimy.

It's a lot of cool shit thrown in a blender and I'm really curious to see how it comes together.

Yeah, I've heard the devs point to 12 Monkeys as a reference which is what got me interested. It at least shows that they're trying to pay close attention to narrative, which has been pretty lacking in a lot of games for years.

Looks cool except for the kinda generic monster design.
The one upside is that I've heard they're making the monsters completely out of human material, like there's no weird alien shit. No claws or weird fangs, it's all fingers and stuff. I do think the tentacle stuff that happens when they merge kind of deviates from that and is kind of lame, though.

That's a very excellent point.
A bit of a tangent but check out Beksinski if you haven't seen his art before. Polish too. Returnal basically did a tribute level with the 3rd biome which was crazy to see. They're going balls deep on Beksinski and Giger as well here. Not that Giger hasn't been all over gaming but still love to see it, especially the more grotesque aspects.

I have a crazy Beksinski anecdote actually, you might appreciate this. This was about 10+ years ago. My friend has a Beksinski tattoo and we were standing in line at a Polish deli. Heavy Polish community here. A little older lady gasps and starts asking my friend if that's Beksinski and details. Turns out she was his neighbor at some point back in Poland and recognized the style. She had a really choppy English so we didn't get much out of her but it was wild.

Just did a quick search. More of that would be great.
