New Driveclub gameplay

Welp, got out of bed and watched them, here's my mini-rant:

Gamers are so spoiled some times. In one fall season, racing fans will have gotten to play an open-world racer set in Southern Italy and France, one of the most beautiful, atmospheric circuit racers ever made, a game in which you can LITERALLY drive across the country in real-time AND a brand new racing sim IP...

and we want to bicker about power-lines and numbers.

Le-sigh.

Goodnight DC gaf.

My friend, this is a gaming enthusiast forum. You don't go onto a serious musicianship forum and complain that it should just be "about the music" when they get into the technical stuff. A lot of us like discussing the technical stuff. That doesn't mean that we aren't appreciative of how far gaming has come, or that it doesn't look incredible in many ways.

Also, the power-lines are more of any easy indicator and point of discussion of an overall bigger issue (image quality), rather than a matter of caring only about how the power-lines look.

That lighting. There's just something so...natural about it. And that's a hard time-of-day to pull off naturally.

Wow this thread just keeps rolling. Just a quick one though, I bet my balls when we're racing we will never, EVER, look at those power lines. :)

And just quietly

#VEGEMITELIGHTNING

for the win

This thread has skyrocketed in pages. What's going on?

I'm seeing mentions of bullshot footage? Power lines. Fuzzy rocks. Lol I thought reviews has come out of something

I have to point out something else this game does extremely well, and that is for a sterile, exotic car circuit racer, this game is brimming with attitude and personality.

And I'm not talking about hip/new dubstep blasting festival type attitude/personality, like the DiRT games.

It's got identity, and that's something that you have to pull off with more than just a catchy name and logo or some cool sounding dude spouting hip and cool adjectives in your ear every time you win a race or event.

This game is just music, menu aesthetics, racing locales, handling... I don't know. But it's got something.

God, I'm loving this game.

I'm also having a fucking hard time getting the damn northern lights to show up. Fuckers...

Screenshots were posted from a retail copy. People got concerned. Videos were posted from same poster. People were relieved.

Goodnight DC gaf.

Nice PR there. It was subtle as a gunshot through the guts...

Wait, so that video was super sampled? I haven't been keeping up, looks great either way.

No, its just something I'm calling it, not to sure what it is...until we see this game ourselves, but even if its not quite looking like that, I'm still happy to own this game.

I got some really nice night driving in Norway. Beautiful moody stormy weather and some dazzling fireworks at the end.

And that's the thing about track details like the Northern Lights and fireworks. They seem to be random.

This same track I'm about to upload opened at dusk with a flock of birds flying over an icy cliff... I just sat there watching it as the rest of the pack took off the start line. Game is gorgeous.

Are you using the usb method this time?

I love you right now.

So does it play as well as it looks? How good is the handling? What about AI? Gosh! I need to know, Rapier!

crash and burn. I will thread the needle through the wreckage.... Or am I dreaming.

Either way, it will be beautiful.

That's really one of the best feelings in a racing game. Making it through and knowing that the race is yours as long as you don't mess up. Of course most of the time you just end up t-boning or rear ending another car. :/

Their AA seems to be dependent on width of the cable. Looks solid as long as it isn't 1 pixel wide. It seems to have no effect when it gets that thin. So it really depends on which portion of the track and how far the cable is from you. The farther it is, the higher chance it will appear jaggy

May be they will throw in more AA when photo mode is out, specifically when you turn on that mode.
Looking at it some more, I think you are right. The width of the object definitely seems to be a determining factor in how jaggy it appears.

Played first race of the beta. I didn't actually know too much about the game, there is a point system for certain racing behavior (positive for things like drifting or overtaking, negative for going off track) and mini-challenges in the race (take the corner correctly etc., looks like it might pull in friends data for this. Probably common knowledge but meh.

I'm not too into racers in general, and I've talked before on gaf about all how racing developers are the most bullshottiest, worthless providers of pre-release media. DC doesn't seem like an exception. It looks good, but it has jaggies and the trees look a little weird and overall playing it gave me a much more "its a game" feel than the "holy excrement" of some of the gifs I've seen on gaf.

Impressions off one race in the beta, mind. Now its stuck connecting to server so maybe the beta is over.

Edit: Speaking of .gifs, its things you can't really tell in the one posted above, the cracked glass and arm models are fairly low-res in-game but look fine there.

Too bad I can't take next Tuesday off.
Having Wednesdays and Thursdays off for my weekends has been a real blessing for game releases.

Yeah, and boy does it make a difference.

Get ready for some decent quality videos.

Gonna play around with time of day a lot from now on. Try to get the most eye catching scenery.

This is the only racing game where the cockpit view is actually enticing. All the light reflecting off the windshield and steering wheel actually make it worth while.
HNNNNGG!

Honestly, this is NOT a knock on the game's visuals, but believe me when I say it plays better than it looks. For damn sure.

Evo's got this thing down pat.

Night time video ETA: 2 minutes.

:O

Canada! Get some Canada footage!

Welp, I guess I owe vanwinkle a bottle of Pappy.
nah. I'll drink it myself

Pfffft. Pappy.

Real men drink chocolate milk.

What's going on!??!

Which vidyas do I need to watch?

Is that gif of Viveks from one of Rapier's vidyas?
