Seriously? The racial stereotype wasn't even necessary, just kinda thrown in there. Casual racism at its finest.
"Hey, this joke doesn't quite work yet. Maybe some racism will help?"
"Hey guys, did you know black people kind of look like apes when you put ape parts on their face???"Boston needs to step up their game.
Belgium is miles ahead in the poor taste/racist jokes category.

I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt that this was unintentional. Watermelon isn't the punchline. But at the same time, does watermelon toothpaste even exist?

Pretty sure I had watermelon toothpaste when I was in 6th grade. It was horrible.
Wonder why they did such a good job photoshopping Michelle but it looks like they used MS Paint on Obama."Hey guys, did you know black people kind of look like apes when you put ape parts on their face???"
Why would you change it to watermelon? Most likely the editors caught it and changed it but not before it was uploaded to their site. Or maybe it's all one big hoax? I mean, has anyone seen it on the site itself? There's a different version floating around. No one is sure which is the original yet:

It feels like they're trying to portray the intruder as racist by using that language, which seems unnecessary given that it's not the main thrust of the cartoon.
edit: Oh possible photoshop job?
This looks better. The text looks centered and the Watermelon one is a bit too much to the left in my eyes. There's a different version floating around. No one is sure which is the original yet:

I'm going to assume that the intention was to make the intruder racist rather than the cartoon itself

Note the real question... Was this in any of their print newspapers?

Uncalled for. Holding up the belief that Boston is chock full of casual and not so casual racism.
The comic was stupid, but I think the insult was directed towards the intruder not to Obama.
I'm not sure how this happens.

The watermelon line was in the Boston Herald, but not clear if that was the original or someone at the paper changed it.
http://boston.cbslocal.com/2014/10/...izes-for-obama-watermelon-toothpaste-cartoon/BOSTON (CBS) The Boston Herald issued an apology Wednesday for a political cartoon mocking President Obama and the Secret Service security failures.
The cartoon shows the president brushing his teeth in a White House bathroom with a surprised look on his face as a white man sits in the bathtub behind him, asking Mr. Obama, Have you tried the new watermelon flavored toothpaste?
The joke is that the intruder got so far into the White House that he's taking a bath in the bathroom while Obama is brushing his teeth and making casual conversation.besides being completely tasteless, i'm not sure how this even works as a joke
T or F: Boston is pretty racist for a Northern metropolitan city
