PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | October 2014

'Valkyria Chronicles'.

I'm being honest, this is all I saw in your post. I saw a trailer for this and was intrigued, but now you have my attention. Are you saying this is an SRPG that has similarities gameplay wise to the best game of last generation? And if so how much?

Looks like the firmware update is live

Only 3 themes available on JPSN right now, the ZSS one and two generic ones

ZZS theme is 432 yen, downloading it now

So has anyone checked out Pier Solar HD yet?

I had no idea this was coming out at all, let alone this week. The official trailer gave me major Lunar vibes. I would buy it now but I'd rather have it on the Vita. Was just wondering if anyone has played it or knows if it is any good?

I bought NLKS for $8.99 because why not?

Same here. Was pretty interested in the game for a while, but got turned off when I heard of the framerate issues. Paying $40 for it would have been too steep, but for 9 bucks, why the hell not? Won't have time to play right away though, but if you do, I wouldn't mind some impressions.

I'm done downloading everything for Ridge Racer Vita. I documented all the DLC so here it is for future reference. Might prove useful to someone that buys the bundle while it's on sale:

If you're so inclined, you can also spend money on 'EXTRA MACHINE: HORNET' from Daytona, 'EXTRA SONG: Ride Racer USA Mix' and 'MACHINE SKIN: KAMATA SYNCi'.

The NLKS slowdown is only with a full army and generally only in your town. The slowdown is definitely significant there, but other that I found it very playable and mostly enjoyable.

Do not buy Natural Doctrine looking for Valkyria Chronicles. There -are- some similarities, but ultimately they're very different combat systems. However, I do think a fan of one has a higher chance of liking the other.

So... there are two big similarities.

1) Perspective. In ND, you can (at any time) toggle between 3 different views (overhead, further overhead, and VC style).

2) Just like in VC, characters/enemies armed with guns can 'snipe' at opponents running into their field of view.

There are also some other basic similarities -- on your characters turn, you run them around and set their actions. However, there aren't any sort of 'action points'... you can run anywhere you want within a set number of 'zones', and you have one action once you like where you're standing. A huge part of the combat system is chaining commands and linking turns, neither of which is in VC.

There's no 'aiming' mechanic for gunners -- you pick your enemy and you have a chance to hit, a chance to miss, and a chance to critical. Tactically, there are lots of options, like keeping your gunner on a higher level so that they can snipe away while no enemy can reach them, or having them take cover behind a guarding character so that opposing gunners hit their shield. And of course, if you place your units badly you can get friendly fire (though it looks like if it's an 'auto-shot' the character knows not to fire at your own team... it only happens if you accidentally order them to.

The scoring mechanic in ND is much better... it's based on scores on a wide variety of criteria (counterstrikes, damage, etc) vs. the 'speed' score VC gives that breaks VC's gameplay.

I love this game. I also love VC. But they're definitely different, even if at times they look similar. I think it could easily have the cult following of VC though... it's got solid, if complex, mechanics.

Switched in 16 GB card to Vita. Started downloading games to play on my Vita TV. I can login with US account now but store still isn't up. So hopefully I can just swap the card in there and I'm good.

only gameplay wise as in regards to characters and story its horrible hence why it wont have that strong of a following.

I'm not expecting like a VC clone or anything but you are description has my jimmies rustled. I'm off to youtube to try and see if there are any play videos yet to seal the deal but bravo you have done an excellent job selling the game to me.

This is the vita version you are giving the impressions on right? i was wondering how big of a difference there was between the platforms.

Well VitaGAF, I will delete Wipeout and Dragon's Crowns after finishing them after several hours. Will get 3,5GB of free space, so the question is:

Which game should I download now?

The list has:

Uncharted: GA
Gravity Rush
Muramasa Rebirth
Sly Cooper Thieves in time
Metrico

The others are much smaller in size so they aren't a problem.

mmm new thread

My vote goes to either Gravity Rush or Muramasa

Looks worse than Pix n Love Rush. How about an HD version of that instead!

You could play the Minis version on PS3. As far as Minis go, it's one of the only ones that still looks reasonably good blown up on a TV, due to the graphical style.

OK with Strider 2, that makes two months in a row with killer PS Classic titles. Capcom still has some key titles in their back catalog of PS classics to put up (Mainly Megaman games).

Namco released a HUGE bunch of PS Classics with their Namco collection this past week. This is probably the largest month of Quality PS Classics released in a long time.

I have two questions, do we think this trend will continue with long wanted PS classics finally coming out?

We can only hope!

And the second question, is this push being done to drive PS Classics sales prior to the launch of PS TV (or more optimistically PS4 compatibility with PS1 digital titles)?

Once again...we can only hope!

I think PSTV could be an excellent way to play downloadable PS1 classics, especially if they carry over a lot of the screen and control customization options that exist on PS Vita now.

not much of a diff more like price is the difference. the games character models are not nice enough so that having the ps4 ver for example would really make sense. plusif you get the vita one and have the psv tv you can just play on that if you want the big screen experience

Do people get into srpgs for the story? If so, I suppose. I thought most people into the genre dig tactics, stats, maybe min/maxing, character building, etc. I figured most seeking solid stories skip srpgs and head for
literature
jrpgs.

I'm not deep enough into this to give a fair assessment of the story, though the siliconera and rpgamer reviews suggested it's got at least something to say about racism, etc.

Yes, vita. I have a ps4 but primarily game on my vita because, well, it's a vita.

I'm glad you're looking into it. I really think this game got a bad rap -- I know for a second I considered cancelling my preorder due to some reviews. But I'm so glad i didn't, so far it's exactly what I thought it was going to be. I can see why it's not for everyone - It definitely has a robust combat system that is far more complex than most, and the tutorial doesn't do it any favors (though isn't the worst tutorial, either).

I'd say... ultimately the combat system has about the same complexity as something like Resonance of Fate. Maybe even easier? Different, certainly, (though you'll be setting up triangles in ND too in order to maximize bonuses). Though chaining/linking fundamentally makes more sense to me than the 'scratch damage' in RoF ever did.

are the Castlevania games worth buying at the current price?
SotN and HoD?

SotN is worth any price, but there are various versions. The Dracula X Chronicles version
has a few notable tweaks and two different versions of Dracula X as well, but Symphony of the Night is one of the greatest games ever, and you can't go wrong with the original version for half off (plus, you have to unlock it in Chronicles).

The XP and OS X versions got dropped. #rip (read: QCMA) if you're on those OSes.

Wait. What? Fucking XP was dropped? Fucking Sony. Can I actually still use the CMA without updating?

For anybody else on XP like me I have an answer.

Sony said:
As of October 2, 2014, Content Manager Assistant for PlayStation® is no longer supported in the following OS.

Microsoft® Windows® XP

Now that support has ended, updates are no longer provided for Content Manager Assistant for PlayStation®. You can continue using Content Manager Assistant for PlayStation® even after support has ended. However, any new software features released in updates will not be available to you as long as you use the older version, and security risks might increase. If you are using an unsupported OS, consider updating to a newer one.

Yeah, I'm getting a similar Lunar feel from the little bit I've played of it. I've had to grind a little bit because of a lower experience rate but I don't mind at all.

Get Metrico. beat it in the short amount of time it takes, and delete it never to play again.
I guess it was fun... but more annoying really.

My vote goes to Muramasa

So 3.30 is out... I'm not updating until I know, without a shadow of a doubt, that the "Glitched" games will still work and that this list will be able to deliver and make all those games compatible on both PSTV and Vita.

Do you mean the Download List glitch that allows Crash Bandicoot and co? Those games still work. I'm on 3.30 and all of my forbidden fruit still runs, as does the stuff I installed through PKG Installer.

That's a relief. Now I have to see if SCEA will deliver with regards to ther PSTV list. It's been updated twice and Brave Story's still there, so I'm not too hopeful.

Oh yea i want Vita. No I barely play anything but Vita or 3DS anymore.

Yes, vita. I have a ps4 but primarily game on my vita because, well, it's a vita.

Yea its definitely a surprise on my radar and is moving some stuff of my top list like Disgaea 4. And then you have to go and mention Resonance of Fate, yet another hidden gem for me, damn it.

I'm not a fan of how the blue background shows up before you wallpaper for that page loads in now.
Wasn't this always the case? It only seems a bit slower since the update :/
At least that was the reason why I switched the background colour for all my Vita pages to black so I have a neutral black transition between wallpapers instead of the standard blue.

i feel like if i ever get the PSTV Bundle, it will just be a Final fantasy machine. which everything else on the handheld. it just feels right to me

No, I haven't. But it should be that complicated to use themes after they added them today?

Unless you mean Suikoden which I think will work being transferred from ps3 but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

no I mean to transfer the psp themes, I'm curious how the vita handles them if it takes them now that they say PSvita on them
