Would like to see more variation in the enemies. Kinda like Borderlands where the same enemy gets renamed but Bungie to add some more interesting attacks and weapon types.

Agreed. First Borderlands was like Destiny is, really basic & bland weapon and enemy types. Then BL2 went all out and really switched things up. Hoping Bungie goes that direction eventually.

OK, so I managed to solo the level 28 weekly heroic up to the end boss, but he's impossible for me to beat by myself since I'm a level 27 Warlock. Anyone willing to help out?

Crazy talk! Solar grenade spam on the final boss does a ton of damage. The revive ability keeps attempts going, not only if the sunsinger dies, but if other people die and reviving them means going on a suicide run... that is, a suicide run for anyone but a sunsinger.

I will give you one thing, sunsingers that play too cautiously with their super are probably less effective than voidwalkers. It shouldn't only be used when the shit hits the fan, you should use it as much as possible to create a flood of orbs that boost the team.

Oh, and be happy you haven't faced me in PvP if you think Sunsingers suck there. I feel bad sometimes, but only sometimes, about how powerful it is.

Sunsingers are my fave raid partners. Damn useful.

E: Well, trying to. PSN is being awesome.

Me an my buddy from work who is my most consistent murder buddy in Destiny finished the Nightfall strike last night together. Almost perfect and a fuck ton of fun!

He rolled a shiny new Machine Gun for his troubles and I got the Knucklhead!!!

Which i've already had for a week from Xur....

RNGesus why you gotta do me dirty??/ would it be so hard to quickly check the gear I have equipped at the time i'm making the roll and eliminate those items from the randomized pool of gear I could get?? Yah for shards, i guess.

If i have to wait as long in Destiny to get The Last Word as i had to wait in BL1 for the Unforgiven i will be a not happy camper :(

I only had enough strange coins to get the exotic warlock helm last week with Xur, but I have to say I really love the Silvered Hushwind-D. It's a great great great crazy crazy stable AR. The upgraded stability is almost 100%!

I wish I could just make this an exotic, haha. I can do quite well in Crucible, but im sure it won't be enough for Iron Banner, alas.

Haha someone made a Twitter account for Xur. I was just saying I hope he has the Ice Breaker and he replied to me like instantly. :lol

https://twitter.com/findxur

Also Kittens, Stubo and me got the Nightfall done. That boss is such a pain in the ass even in standard Strikes. Where the fuck was the Arc damage? Only enemies I noticed had Void or Solar I didn't see anything with Arc.

One of them got the MIDA Multi-Tool Scout Rifle exotic and I think Legendary armor for both.

I got these 2 chests which I don't mind. Need a damn helmet now since I only have 2 exotics so until I get a Legendary helmet I wont use the chest.

Also got these Warlock pieces waiting for me at the postmaster since I hit Vanguard Rank 3. My Warlock should be of to a great start when I hit level 20 with it.

I'm going to run three Titans for the time being. Once they are all at 20, all my best gear is transferrable, which means I can run all of the daily/weekly activities up to three times with optimized gear, max level (I'm stuck at 29 with no raid gear).

Can you only make up to 3 classes?

If you didn't catch them, be sure to check out Vol. 1 and Vol. 2!

Highlights from previous posts include:

[*]Taking your sparrow where it don't belong
    [*]Ammo synthesis? Ammo synthesis.
    [*]Mission Modifiers and You
[*]Making the most of your loading screens

In this volume, we've got a good mix of tips for pros, new players, and outright silliness. Let's get right to it!

The Night Fall Rises
The Weekly Nightfall Strike is awesome- a challenging, interesting remix of an existing Strike that always includes an Elemental Burn, meaning that if you stroll in with a high-powered Arc weapon during an Arc Burn, you can tear the place up- however, any Arc damage toward you will be amplified as well.

The rewards for the Nightfall are great. Some people have been upset getting Strange Coins or Ascendant materials- but these are nearly always useful. Possible rewards include:
  • 8-12 Ascendant Materials
    [*]6-10 Strange Coins
    [*]Exotics
    [*]Legendaries
    [*]Legendary Engrams
The worst thing you can get from a Nightfall is actually a legendary, because if it's for a slot you already have, you're either giving it to an alt or breaking it down for 2-3 shards... when the shard reward from the Strike can be up to 12.

But there's another oft-overlooked benefit to the Nightfall: a buff called Radiant Light.

You'll recognize this as the blue flame effect swirling around the heads of those that have completed the Nightfall that week. Sidenote: if you know the Strike and find yourself in a fireteam with someone of the appropriate level that doesn't have a fiery head, that means they haven't done it yet- why not offer to take them through? ;)

Radiant Light offers a bonus to all XP, and- even though it doesn't mention it- all sources of Reputation as well. This lasts until the reset on Tuesdays each week.

This 20% bonus is no joke. It's like getting a "freebie" for every 5 patrol missions you do, and the bigger Rep gains- like the Weekly Heroic Strike and Daily Heroic Story- really add up when you've got the buff active. Because of this, it is always preferable to make the Nightfall the first thing you do each week, or as close to it as possible. Come Tuesday, ready your fireteam and load your Burn-ready weapons- it's Nightfall time.

When you get your first exotic weapon, you'll quickly realize after playing around with it for a while that it gains experience extremely slowly compared to legendaries and rares. So. Slowly.

While this annoyed me at first, I have come to consider it great design. Because each weapon takes a lot of effort and possibly time to level up, you really need to prioritize which ones you care about most- especially because, for some Exotics, upgrading them turns them from great, good or even mediocre weapons into true game-changers. The first time you get more than one exotic weapon in a short timeframe, you'll experience a legitimately tough choice- which one do I want to have fully functional first? And when you finally do pop that final upgrade and watch the damage number roll over, it feels amazing.

Here are the breakpoints for weapon upgrade slot by rarity:

Primary Weapons
  • Rare: 6,000 XP/slot
  • Legendary: 9,000 XP/slot
  • Exotic: 30,000 XP/slot
Special Weapons
  • Rare: 5,000 XP/slot
  • Legendary: 7,500 XP/slot
  • Exotic: 25,000 XP/slot
Heavy Weapons
  • Rare: 5,000 XP/slot
  • Legendary: 15,000 XP/slot
  • Exotic: 25,000 XP/slot
So how do you speed up the upgrade process? Bounties. Whichever weapon(s) you have equipped when turning in a bounty will get the experience for it applied all at once, making bounties by far the best source of weapon XP. Just make sure you've got your Nightfall done first if possible!

One important note: if you have more than one weapon with upgrades needed, bounty XP will be split between them. Because of this, when leveling exotics, equip only the Exotic you want to level alongside two fully-upgraded weapons before turning in bounties to get full XP.
Embrace the Quirks of the Mission Map
Many players, including myself, were a bit disappointed that most Story missions spawn you in the same spot, and simply lead you on different paths from there through the open world to the mission location.

However, knowing the exceptions to this rule can allow you to move about the world- and your own progression- more efficiently.

For starters, some Story missions simply do spawn you in unusual spots that differ from Patrol.

The Warmind on Earth is a shortcut to the Forgotten Shores.
The Shrine of Oryx is a shortcut to the Hellmouth on the Moon.
The Vault of Glass, aka the Raid, is a shortcut to the Waking Ruins on Venus instead of the Headlands spawn. However- if you've saved any checkpoints down in the Raid for the week, obviously you lose this one until the weekly reset or completing the Raid.

Because the areas you spawn in are not fireteam instances, they are connected to the same "silent matchmaking" shared world as you might find on Patrol- with everything that comes with them including other players, material spawns and chests, Public Events, et cetera. You can ignore the Story quest objectives and just go off on your own, wherever you want in the entire zone from there- and the game is happy to let you do so. The only functionality you've lost out on from Patrol is showing beacon locations when you pop out your Dinklebot. This makes it less-than-ideal for rep/patrol farming, but useful for glimmer farming, chest runs, and especially public events- if you know the Forgotten Shores event is likely to spawn in a minute, take the shortcut instead of starting all the way from the patrol spawn. In the future, I hope that you are able to select a few locations per planet to enter in "Patrol Mode," rather than having it represented as one spot on each map.

You can also take advantage of the fact that story checkpoints are maintained on a per mission basis. If you reach a checkpoint and then go to Orbit, that checkpoint is maintained until you complete the mission, or need to attempt it for a bounty/Daily Heroic.

The best example of using this is the quest on the Moon titled The Dark Beyond, which can trivialize certain bounties that might otherwise take considerable time. Progress through the quest until you've WOKEN THE HIVE, then pop out to orbit. Now, you can easily hop back into that mission and spawn right at the Crota gate- make yourself a cocktail during the dead Guardian cutscene- and proceed to knock out your fusion rifle/super multikill bounties, Hive moon kill bounties, hive major bounties, precision kill bounties- anything that might benefit from murdering dozens of Hive at a whim. Live, die, repeat. Just be sure to allow the Hallowed Knight to kill you, and make sure not to kill him, as this will advance the story and you'll lose your checkpoint.

Lastly, here's a bit of useless fun for you guys to try.

For some inexplicable reason, if you hop off your Sparrow and pump a few rounds into its engine, it will freak out, sputter forward a few feet, and explode. This explosion does actual splash damage and can hurt you, and even, if your placement is lucky enough, hurt enemies in its path.

If you ask me there really should be an Achievement for getting a kill in this manner, but so far as I know, none exists. But it's there in your heart.

That was really fun. You got some clutch revives in! And I'm pretty sure the Psion's with the ground wave attacks did Arc damage. They were on shotting me and Stubo.

Wow the daily heroic mission was a bitch and a half today. Fucking Axis Minotaurs all over the place.
Any good techniques for taking down those particularly buffed enemies with that super life bar - what is that? Armor? Or just a ton of extra health?

You can definitely optimize damage types towards the right shields, but once the shields are down, is there anything that can help drop particular enemies faster? - besides just shooting em in the face or stomach that is. Does elemental damage continue to have a damage boost on certain enemies even after the shields get dropped? Or maybe there's a type of damage that works best against unshielded health?

Well, we can all dream but I think it's more likely to be a special weapon this time based on how things went in the previous weeks. I'd be very happy if it's the Icebreaker though.

If not it, then I'll do fine with Hawkmoon.

Too bad I have raid body now for my warlock or else I'd request the exotic "praise the sun" body. My Hunter could use that helmet that gives 1 extra bullet for golden gun instead of the exotic body Alpha Lupi... which is pretty bad imo, but looks cool.

No.

Do you all just stumble on Public Events? That website that tracks then doesn't work worth a shit.

The website works perfectly.
Not all public events are guaranteed spawns. Some are more rare than others.

Also, there is usually a variance between spawns from + or - 1 minute to + or - 5 minutes.

I've successfully chained the earth PEs for hours to farm ass mats.
