So seeing as xur is there right now, I was thinking about trading something, not even close to enough strange coins and my motes of light are gone. So seeing as earning motes of light is something I can do by myself I decided on calculating how much xp it takes to earn one and whether it'll be doable (as I'm still a few short).

Seeing as I couldn't find specific numbers anywhere I took it upon myself to try it out. Loaded up the game, did a quick bounty for which I knew how much exact xp I was going to get. Went to the bountry tracker, captured (in 1080p) what the progress bar looked like before, claimed the bounty, and captured what it looked like after. And through determinng the overall bar length in pixels and the change in progress in pixels, I have determined that (as long as the requirement doesn't keep going up) you need about 75,000 xp to earn one mote of light.

So, long story short:

1 mote of light = 75k xp (assuming more is not required after each one you earn, I will reconfirm this once I've earned this mote)

In case anyone was interested in this information.

Anyways, I am a high enough level to do the tiger strike playlist now, so I'm just going to do that to try to get some strange coins and motes of light. Far too much xp per mote required to actually only try to earn them that way (at least to me).

I selected some crucible bounty's with my hunter class, then when I switched to my alt(warlock class) they were still gone. They don't get replaced with new bounties either.
I think what you mean is that Bounties bind to Account in the way that Character A can have Bounty A, and Character B can have Bounty B, but Character B can't have Bounty A if Character A already has it
The drops are far too random for that to be worth it.

Plus you can't get all drops in the system they described.
Then Cash-On-Delivery aka you pay a flat fee to get them in at all and if they get any exotics/legendaries you pay them extra for the loot

Hmm, "Helm of Saint-14".

I bought the "Crest of Alpha Lupi" last weekend and I really like it, was thinking of using it as the exotic that will take me to 30.

Someone here commented that I should get an exotic helmet instead? Why is that? Is it harder to get a legendary raid drop helmet than a chest piece?

Raid helm is hardmode only

Best way to level an alt is just to do bounties and quit. When you have to push to higher level areas just do the heroic story missions. Takes about 3ish days using this method and it isn't a huge headache.
PvP is fantastic xp if you're good at the core gameplay and/or (but especially and) don't mind getting your ass handed to you on a platter.
Fantasic idea. Making drops tradeable keeps it random so people can't exploit it.
The key is that you get the option to swap merely with the people who completed the content that earned that reward alongside you. You couldn't just go, "oh, my fireteam here doesn't want this, but SOMEONE IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE OF DESTINY must, and they'll trade me what I need." That sort of global trading which has characterized many loot games would make it quite simple for everyone in Destiny to turn almost any decent drop into what they want- because many desires do not overlap- whereas getting drops (or buying something from Xur experimentally) that aren't necessarily what you want and then trying them out and seeing their value is a huuuge aspect of my experience so far. I never would have thought I'd care at all about Thunderlord as I'm not big on LMGs traditionally, but I'm beginning to love it even more than Gjallarhorn. Or see any of a hundred firsthand experiences with Ice Breaker.

Similarly, Exotic Bounties put you on a path toward a guaranteed item, which is compelling even if you don't know or don't think you even want that item. The paths themselves even tend to force you out of your comfort zone to finish the quest. Then, getting the item and trying it out is an interesting exercise- what can I do with this thing? I'd never have pursued Invective without the bounty for it in a million years, but damn if it isn't a fine shotgunning machine to have in my arsenal.

I feel coming into a thread and saying "Hey can you do a weekly with me" is just so...rude.

Not sure if serious...? That's what ALL of us are doing. It's not rude. You're helping me out by filling out the team and I'm helping you fill out the team. Everyone wins.

This is the first week where I have no need for any of Xur's stuff. Definitely at that Level 29-30 grind.

I ended up just doing my exotic bounties with him and that's it. Contemplating the engram just for shards or a possible item for one of my alts.

What?

It's the videos that are an issue unless you manually start them.
Screenshots are one button press.

I can take a screenshot but anytime I want to upload it to twitter or facebook it's just a constant loading screen. then when I hooked up a USB to export some screenshots my console froze and Im not risking that again.

Maybe if you're level 20 and asking people to do the level 28 version that is kinda grasping. But if you are of level, how in the world is asking people to join up with you rude? You weren't planning on just afk'ing the whole strike were you?

Ah. AFAIK daily strikes don't give you shit typically. Maybe mats or a legendary engram you are lucky.

Well that sucks. It shows the rewards at the bottom of the description like the weekly does so I assumed you got something for finishing it

Not at all... I mean, other people need them too! And plenty of us doing mind helping out even with no reward. there's also www.destinylfg.net if it's more about the social obligation

That's how I feel ._.; I was never one for barging in somewhere and being like 'HEY GUYS LET'S MAKE A GROUP'. Because then there's expectations to be met and what not..that's just how I feel ._.

Nah, but I'm the kind of person who has stuff come up frequently that takes me away from my free time. So by the time I have time to do something, it's at an awkward time. For example last week I ran Nightfall with ComputerMKII/Uhhhhhhh another Eurogaffer(SORRY I FORGOT YOUR NAME) from 2-5 in the morning or so.

Didn't want the symbiote helm, bought the engram instead, got symbiote helm anyway. Oh well, coins saved.

As someone that primarily plays Gunslinger in PvE, I'm gunning for that helmet this weekend. Super cooldown on grenade deaths and an extra GG shot would be great. Spent most of my coins on that Emerald Coil contrail but all I'll need is the weekly strike at Lvl 26 to have enough for the helmet.

Check my ship:

I just got that same ship as a random bounty reward in addition to rep and XP. Still like my Outrageous Fortune more but that's not a bad looking ship by any means.

People could sell raid run and NF runs now.

I doubt many people would bother doing what you describe, far too random to count on.

The entire game is built upon playing with people so if people want help, that's what the community is for. Gaffers asking Gaffers for help is totally fine.

I think I'll pass on Xur this week. The pulse rifle sounds like an ok shield buster but I'd rather have a heavy machine gun for them bullet sponge bosses.

EDIT: I will gamble on the mote of light helm though.

I was in the middle of a tiger strike boss fight when my doorbell rang, and I had to answer it and talk to someone for 10 minutes. when I came back the firefight was still ongoing, and we finally beat the boss. After the mission ended the random's I was playing with decided to shoot at me for the entire 30 seconds until the mission was over...

Lol!!! I would've shot at you too.

Is the Xur titan helm worth getting or should i risk the engram?

The engram takes motes of light, the specific helm takes strange coins. If you aren't gaping at the specific helm but could still use the exotic, why not try the risky engram first and if you don't get a Titan helm then just get the specific one with coins?

What expectations are there? You ask people to play with you; sometimes you get the same people, sometimes you don't.

I never would have thought I'd care at all about Thunderlord as I'm not big on LMGs traditionally, but I'm beginning to love it even more than Gjallarhorn. Or see any of a hundred firsthand experiences with Ice Breaker.

Exactly. When The Last Word first dropped for me, I thought, Hmm, hand cannons suck so I'll put it into the vault.

Then I tried it out a few times since I was stuck with it.

5000 hand cannon kills later, I can't imagine using anything else.

So wait, is there only one raid set per class? The datamined stuff isn't accurate? What is specific to the hard mode raid then?
I think Raid armor is the same between Normal and Hard. Correct me if I'm wrong someone but I don't even think there's an alternate color for hard mode gear.

I think something you might want to consider putting info on is the 'ideal' method of hitting 29 with the least amount of "wasted" shards.

Like, is it possible to get to 29 with one maxed exotic, one maxed raid gear component, one untouched legendary and one regularly maxed legendary? That would reduce the shard usage to some degree, and I *THINK* it would work?

30+30+28+22 = 110 and IIRC that's enough for 29. You could run normal raid to get at least one component first before going, since the shard grind is...extremely unfun in many cases.

For shard usage I'm not sure what this looks like (I'm at work), but in my head this looks like the most efficient manner of getting about it?

Non raid gear gives 27 light when capped, so you'll have to pick up the first shard lvl on another thingy.

anyone know how orbs of light generation is calculated? is it enemies damaged or enemies killed? somtimes golden gun will generate 8 orbs of light with combustion on, but other times it'll only drop 2. if all 3 shots hit an enemy, it can vary from 2-6. all i know is combustion gives me more orbs when the explosion hits a nearby enemy, but the number isn't consistent.

Then, as I said earlier:
Flat Fee from 2 level 30s to participate at all, and then if they get something you want and you would swap for it, they charge you to do the swap
I cannot imagine anyone paying for such a ludicrously unreliable service. You'd be paying for the right to give away your reward for a better one on the off chance that one appeared, then also paying to make that exchange? And wasting your money altogether, 100%, if something you wanted DID roll for you. O_O

But I suppose you are right in theory. Any option whatsoever that allowed an item in the possession of one player to enter the inventory of another will be potentially exploitable by the unsavory and used to prey upon the unaware. I think this would be among the more benign iterations of such a scenario, but I hear you.

That's how I feel ._.; I was never one for barging in somewhere and being like 'HEY GUYS LET'S MAKE A GROUP'. Because then there's expectations to be met and what not..that's just how I feel ._.
i know that feel, stems from performance anxiety, you dont wanna inconvenience others if youre not as good or if you die during it.

theres no real fix other than to remember its just a game, people... mostly, are playing it for fun, if you ask for help and someone offers it then it makes no difference how you do as long as you TRY.

Yeah, I don't think it's rude to ask for help, this is the OT, discussions, questions, help regarding the game are all good here.

On that note, thanks again to Kamina, really got me jumpstarted. Got me through a couple of Queen's Wrath missions, and I went from Lvl 22 with all rare armor and weapons, to Lvl 25 with nearly a full set of legendary armor in a couple of hours.

If only I had known a week ago, that spinmetal would be required for these legendary armor upgrades.

More and more I'm falling in love with the implementation of Exotics in this game. I'm about to put out the data I've compiled from everybody's top three answers and there's some really interesting stuff IMO.
