PlayStation Network Thread (Vita/PS3/PS4) | October 2014

I'd buy 2 copies if Konami made a MGS game with cute chibi characters like these.

I'd buy the fuck out ot that TBH
and not only hbecause I'm drunk as shit

If you are really, really bored, by all means, but if you are not save your money. As personally its a game that you can literally say "it looks like a game made in flash"

I had the JP one paid full price for it and dear god did I regret that.

Okay "made in flash" is literally the worst "discouraging" thing you could say to me, so do you have any actual complaints beyond "it looks like it was made in a program explicitly made for high quality animations"

Because people apparently say Mighty Switch Force HD "looks like it was made in Flash" and I will literally construct a tower of those people's bones

This really saddens me. I really enjoyed Road Not Taken on ps4 but vita is such a better fit for it imho. Need to get back to it either way... I'll probably just remote play it.

Once Natural Doctrine is finished, obviously... which won't be for quite awhile I think. Man I love this game. I'm not sure I ever spent this much time/energy planning each move and developing new strategies.

I want to get it, but the pricing of the game seems odd to me. To clearify, most games that are released on ps3 and vita at the same time tend to be cheaper on the Vita but with this game the price is the same on
both consoles.

What is it that you like with the game, I find it an interesting design choice to let the player re-spec before each mission. Can you give me a practical example of how this is used in the game. How much of a difference does new equipment make, is there a limit of the size of your party for each mission?

Lately I have been helping my parents out by going to their house on weekends to watch their cat and dog since they are travelling a ton now that all the kids have moved out. I was wondering if it would be worth it to buy a used PS3 to leave there to have something to play in addition to Vita when I headed home.

Quick questions, how exactly does PS3 work with one account and multiple systems? Like, if I had a PS3 at my place and at my parent's place both registered to my same PSN account, would I be able to play digital purchases/PS+ games on both? Or are there some kind of restrictions? I kind of know how PS4 works with this, but I've never owned multiple PS3s at the same time. Also, is any model PS3 better than another? I've always liked the slot loading slim better than the super slim, but is there a real difference? I have a PS2 connected to a CRT at home, so backwards compatibility means nothing to me.

For the most part that's due to small teams and a one platform focus before moving on to the next as that's the most efficient production cycle for these developers..

Good to hear.

Showing off a PS4 build at a convention is far more practical than a Vita build.

Most indie games these days are made in Unity, which has a special partnership with Sony, so there is no reason to worry about it suddenly halting Vita support the way the Road Not Taken devs got screwed with their middleware.

Ok, thank you.

2 per PSN account.

Get whatever one had a big enough of hard drive.

Awesome, thanks. Hard drive is not really an issue, as I have a bunch of random 500 GB and higher laptop drives sitting around at home. Probably just grab whatever is cheapest.

The PS3 is much less restricted than PS4. You could play your stuffs on both, just not online at the same time.

It saddens me that I no longer have suckers friends sending me Nemesis drops in Diablo 3. I guess most people have moved on.

Just added you. I still playing occasionally, but I don't die that much to guarantee Nemesis will appear :p. Also for some reason lately I haven't gotten any gift to send even though I feel like the number of Legendary I got is higher than before.

Does anyone else have Music Unlimited? I'm guessing they changed the layout recently. Hadn't used it in a month or two. Not a fan of the new setup. For some reason I sometimes get a message saying MU is better on a HD TV. While I'm sure that is true, I already have a HD TV so not sure why the message is appearing.

Using a PS3 btw.

Thanks, and yeah, I know what you mean. The RNG in this game is quite frustrating at times.

As I said, I use them a lot because Borderlands 2, and eventually I will have KZ, and I get too tired without them.

But I just did what you suggest. I tapped both corners with a little piece of shipping tape and it stopped! I can notiice small bubbles there, but they stay there, and that is enough for me.

Thank you very much!
Oh, no prob. Cool that it worked. The main problem for me is just that I like to keep my Vita in a protective pouch/case most of the time, and it won't fit with the trigger grips. I'm fine without them though, whatevs. Good to know if I want to use them in my house I could just do what I suggested to stop the nubs from pushing the screen protector up.

So, random, but just beat 999. I started it just after finishing Danganronpa. I guess I should probably chill for a bit before jumping into VLR or DR2, right? I know the wait after VLR for Zero Escape 3 will be way worse than anything leading up to VLR, but I am curious about a few things. The main thing that bothers me is the 3D models look so weird in VLR, didn't think I'd say it, but I'd prefer the 999 way of handling this, with pretty well animated sprites for characters. Also, voice acting is tripping me up when I look at any gameplay. I just have to ask if I'll get used to this stuff quick once I start? Oh, and I guess this may be asking for a spoiler, but does the rabbit/Monokuma like thing go away? Not sure I like Zero being replaced here with that. Leave wacky robots to DR where they belong (and excel) please.

Well, it's a new gen so it's $60 on ps4 and $40 on ps3/vita. I wouldn't let that affect your decision anyway, though. Imo Natural Doctrine is definitely a 'full' game, as worthy of my $40 as, say, Demon Gaze was.

You've got a couple questions in there:

1) What I like is that it's a truly tactical game. A lot of SRPGs don't actually have all that much strategy. For example, as much as I like Jeanne D'arc, it's pretty easy and standard. Lots of others are easily breakable -- FFTactics, for example, you can grind your characters into gods... and even if you don't, it's hard to keep your challenge level right because you're often either too weak (grind) or too powerful (easy). This game doesn't really suffer from that in the same way. The game requires tactics, the game requires you understand and use the combat system not only to attack your enemies, but to defend against them.

This requires a combination of understanding your special moves, understanding range, movement, etc, understanding how to chain/link your moves for best effect, while never leaving yourself over extended. And of course, there's a bit of luck thrown in since you can always miss a key swing (though it provides all necessary info, such as your chance to hit, before you commit).

It's tactical in a way I always wished Valkyria Chronicles was... but that game (as much as I loved it) was crippled by a terrible scoring system that valued speed over all else, so you ended up doing ridiculous things to beat a key enemy 'fast' (usually with all scouts). I wanted something that valued actual tactics -- a game that recognized minimizing team damage against terrifying odds requires more skill than running one character across a battlefield to get a lucky shot in against an enemy captain. This game would kill that stupid scout and eat it for breakfast.

You open a door, and you see, say, a multilevel area in front of you, with 15 enemies strewn throughout the zones. You need to approach that situation intelligently and tactically, understanding your core strengths and weaknesses, focusing on ways to eliminate key threats (usually the next queued enemy) all the while moving in such a way to link your moves. Because if you don't, the enemy will, and you'll be dead.

You need to be able to assess whether you'll successfully be able to push forward, chaining moves, linking your turns (by killing next queued enemies while keeping some of yours in reserve), or whether you need to retreat and regroup. Even retreats must be tactical, since a large group of enemies can chain pretty far.

2) Some practical examples -- you might spec up your main character to be able to use a two handed sword and get some special attacks, or you might repec him for a certain mission to be a gun wielder. Or another character might need specing for extra health potions, or you might want to focus on her damage output. Or for another warrior, who does lots of small attacks, you can focus on damage output or you can focus on more attacks with less damage but a better chance to 'stagger' your enemy (staggering gives bonuses to other attacks and prevents counters). I currently have a bunch of points spent to give my main character a skill that will counter on every attack evasion... nasty against lots of grunts, especially since he's wearing two evasion rings. But that wouldn't be a good setup on mission that's primarily ranged enemies.

3) New equipment... it depends. Sometimes a new longsword +X just changes your damage output. But then there are other decisions to make... do you give your gunner a sniper rifle you found that does 1 shot with high damage, or let her keep a hunting rifle with considerably less damage but 2 (or more, depending on your skill loadout) shots? Again, it's very situational, since it's rather wonderful when she can take out two weak ranged enemies in one turn. Ultimately, though, this game isn't too lewt heavy -- you'll find some new powerful weapons behind optional doors filled with hard enemies.

4) Story events affect party size, etc, so it's hard to answer this without spoiling anything.

...anyway, I didn't sit down to write such a long essay. I'd rather be playing ND. I'm just sad it got such a lot of pre-release hate that scared people away, because I think it's an absolute gem. It's probably my favorite vita game, at least in the rpg category. It -is- hard at times -- specifically, if you don't understand the combat system and try to brute force it, you'll die. But if you do take the time to plan your turns tactically, you can often wipe out larger forces with only some scrapes and bruises. And when you finally take out some side corridor in some optional dungeon you've been skipping, it's got that feel of 'hell yeah'.

I'm still playing this game on 'lethal', and fighting for every inch, and loving it.

The Four Seasons theme for the Vita is pretty nice. It's much more pleasing to look at than the other two themes, in my opinion.

Ok can someone please explain a Danganronpa 2 puzzle to me? The game has given me the answer when all I wanted was a hint and now I'm pissed off. Worst of all it hasnt actually told me why it's the answer and I don't understand why it's the answer. It's the
escape the room part where you're playing as Nagito. The answer is 9875 andI have no idea why. The screen on the laptop is obviously something to do with it but I don't get it. I assumed the blinking red lights were a hint but they don't match up with the numbers of the laptop at all so I really don't get it. Why is 9875 the answer?

Why can't I purchase Peggle 2? It's on the recently released category. I can click on it, but there's no buy button. EU PSN here.

Maybe a glitch?

There are numbers in the wall, and the symbol on the floor denotes the symbol for North and is not in fact a "4". Using "NEWS" as hinted on the wall's clue (North, East, South, West) you can figure out the proper number combination which happens to be 9875.

No that was the earlier puzzle. I already did that. I mean
the second number combination you have to enter.

You don't need to know binary to figure it out,
just write the flashes down and use the chart on the laptop.
Flash 1: x o x x
Flash 2: o o x o
Flash 3: o o x x
Flash 4: x x o o

I'm not sure if there a more general playstation thread, so hopefully it's ok to ask this here. If not, can you guys let me know where I can post this question?

So I've been using the Pulse Elite headset for a while. Usually turning off the headset will automatically switch the audio back to my tv, same with just unplugging the usb dongle. I kept my PS4 off for about a week or so and now it isn't switching out of headphone audio. I can only hear if I use my Pulse Elites or plug another headset into my DS4.

I can't find a setting anywhere to change this (on the audio output settings Output to Headphones is grayed out and says all audio...I can't change it).

Anybody run into this? Any idea how to fix it? Hopefully it's just something stupid I'm overlooking.

It's still more than a little cruel, with the 6 being abovelined to denote a 9.

Yep.

There's a lot of assumed outside-the-box knowledge involved in that room, I didn't have trouble once I actually started paying attention but can definitely see how someone would struggle.

Ahhh finally finished valkyria chronicles. A couple of the battle in that game are incredibly annoying, but really fun srpg. I could have used even more depth/variety and some open world aventure gameplay though. It always annoys me when its just cutscenes and battles.

Shrinking that ps3 backlog one game at a time. Time to wrap up Catherine.

Ok getting Natural Doctrine, while critics panned it I have read a lot of positive posts from actual players....

I just don't know to get it for Vita or PS4... With remote play I technically get the best of both worlds with the PS4 version but worried the UI might not work or they changed it to fit on the Vita version... Any advice?

Vita version is cheaper, performs better, and you won't care a lot for being an ugly, ugly game.

vita, get the vita.

plus if you plan on getting a ps vita tv playstation tv whatever you can play in the big screen that way

my recorded footage from the JP version, tutorial running on both the PS4 and PSV (PSV TV). figure you watching this would be faster than trying to say otherwise. honestly its not worth the extra $$$ you will be paying for the PS4 version anyways. its not like the game really takes advantage of it.

here in Japan reason why I have the PS4 / PSV version is since they sold a 2 in one pack. PS4 physical + PSV digital copy for around 70ish.

To all the VitaGafers that recommended Frozen Synapse Prime, wow, thank you all so very much! I just jumped on it based on the recommendations and the experiences from the owners and I am very hooked! Such a great game! To anyone else that is still on the fence and loves tactical and strategy games, but is scared away by the price and the fact that it has had low media coverage, just do it. Double Eleven did a fabulous job with great graphics, excellent control and touch implementation and wonderful gameplay!

If anything VC had the narrative and world done pat...can the same be said for Natural Doctrine?

HMMMMM

As much as I love Natural Doctrine, that's a 'no'. VC had an exquisite art style with a vision, and all the various characters had backstories and they had a (underused) friendship mechanic in there.

I'm not finished ND so I don't know all the twists and turns the story will take.. so it could get better (or worse). It has an interesting world built on an interesting concept (a natural resource needed for real world power/magic must be forcefully taken from peaceful goblins just trying to defend themselves and other darker, morally questionable themes). The writing isn't as good as VC, but isn't terrible... it's not Monster Monpiece awful, it's not roll your eyes absurd, it's more just 'okay'. It goes for a more realistic feel though doesn't always hit the mark. I don't feel like I'm suffering through the writing like many games, but it won't win awards either.

The story is disjointed garbage that goes nowhere for the most part. Period. A bit hard to suffer through the writing when there is so little of it in the first place. :) With only 4 stages left, really doubt they can tie up everything in a neat little package as Ive said before. And its not like the "story" if you can even call it that got any better as you progressed further in the game.

As Ive been telling pretty much everyone else the usual no bullshit commentary I do, basically dont buy the game if you are interested in graphics and / or an actual story. Since this game has neither of those down well. But for gameplay most def.
