PAL Charts - Week 40, 2014

You think?

I'm not so sure that the kind of userbase who buys LBP has transitioned yet.

It's certainly possible. It'd be easier to tell if similar games had been released on both platforms. The closest that we have would be the Infinity and Skylanders games, but those are certainly a different animal compared to LBP. It's going to be released in the leadup to the holidays, which would be the time when parents would be potentially buying their kids a PS4, and LBP3 has recently been leaked as a bundle title in Europe.

Yup. Very little hype or interest surrounding the game right now.

Hopefully MS heave a big as campaign planned. That's pretty much the only hope Sunset has to chart in the top five.

shit, I only own a PS4, and have no plans of buying the X1, but I'm sort of hyped for SSOD...

My kids have pretty much transitioned now, key moments were release of PvZ: Garden Warfare and Minecraft.

My eight year old daughter has finished Rogue Legacy and is now playing through Valiant Hearts and the ever present Minecraft.

My eleven year old son is on PvZ and Minecraft.

It was the big M that kept them playing on the PS3, once that moved then that was it. I should think the physical version being in the shops now will help as well.

When does the XBO version get its physical release? I'm surprised the current gen physical versions weren't released together, the digital ones were pretty close.

SSB will be stronger on home console in Europa + SSB tends to sell for years. Debut is low in UK, but there are other factors to consider when evaluating its performance.

Isnt it releasing in a relatively quiet week?
Could see it being Nr.1 for one week and drop out of the top 5 when COD hits.

Sure. I'm only referring to the UK market. Can't see it doing much in Europe. US will probably be where it does best.

Depends on how MS market the game.

Sunset will sell fine dude. I think it does ok at launch but strong word of mouth will increase sales over the coming months.

These were the German pre-order charts from October 2nd.

1. ( 5 ) Super Smash Bros. (3DS, Nintendo)
2. (NEU) Mittelerde: Mordors Schatten (PS4, Warner)
3. ( 9 ) Forza Horizon 2 (Xbox One, Microsoft)
4. (NEU) DriveClub (PS4, Sony)
5. ( 6 ) Mittelerde: Mordors Schatten (PS3, Warner)
6. (NEU) Mittelerde: Mordors Schatten (Xbox One, Warner)
7. (10 ) Call of Duty Advanced Warfare (PS4, Activision)
8. (NEU) The Evil Within (PS4, Bethesda)
9. (NEU) Alien Isolation (PS4, Sega)
10.(10 ) Grand Theft Auto V (PS4, Rockstar)

Smash was even ahead of Shadow of Mordor so we can expect it to do well here at least. Doubt it will top the FIFA domination though.

Last of us is doing really well for a remaster, EA continues to laugh to the bank. Good debut for FH2 should be interesting to see how much legs it has.

Insomniac deserve better than to be thrown under a bus of apathy. I hope it gets the proper marketing push.

I think it's very possible that people are just waiting for the Wii U version. The west skews much more toward consoles than Japan does right now.

Might be, but there are way more 3ds sold in UK than Wii U. So only a small portion of the install base would really wait for the Wii U version.

Some people are forgetting that Sunset Overdrive has a pack in with the kinectless white Xbox One right when the holiday season starts. ;)

Wow the ps3 version of FIFA outsold the Xone version? That is surprising.

FIFA is an absolute monster that I'm not surprised it held on. Pretty decent debut for Shafow of Mordor though.

And for Smash Bros I think stock may have been an issue. We had to resort to selling digital copies by 12 o'clock on Friday which doesn't get tracked in the charts. Nintendo doesn't exactly flood retail with a lot of stock nowadays

Insomniacs games never set the world on fire, even when they were on the PS3. The games they made usually sold via bundles or hefty price cuts etc. At the EG expo there were a lot of queues for the game, so even though i don't expect the game to have mainstream success, I think it will gain a great cult following.

Mordor did pretty well. I'm not enjoying it as much as the praise and reviews would lead you to believe but it's a nice game and makes good use of the license. So it deserves success.

When's SO out?

It might do ok first week (depending on reviews) thanks to the White bundle and core market but I can't honestly see it staying around much longer with Oct/November being packed with the big heavy hitters. Not unless it turns out to be something really special and gets lots of marketing and word of mouth.

TLoU has done so well. It's still sticking around the top 20 despite lots of big releases and months after release. Though I'm sure the bundles will be helping, Sony really did play that release so well. TLoU2 will be massive.

Europe or UK? Because in the UK a pack in helped Titanfall chart for 8 months just about. That was with the kinect.

I wouldnt compare it to Titanfall, everybody thought its the next big thing and the hype was crazy.
I think MS is happy if Sunset does half as good as Titanfall did.

I hope SSB 4 3ds will sell better in the other countries, I will hate it if they crippled the Wii U version for this kind of low return.
JP sales alone of the 3DS version will probably be close to WW sales of the Wii U version. It was worth it.

3DS games sometimes do better in their second week in the UK. The rush factor is lower on handhelds.

Still a great result compared to Brawl. We all know Smash games have legs.

Congrats SoM, so deserved.

I'm not really shocked at Forza Horizon 2 bomba. They should have released it a few weeks before FIFA.

As for SSB. UK has never been 3DS-friendly.

I don't know why people say SSB for Nintendo 3DS had a bad debut. It should be around 40,000 at least (maximum is 50,000, but it's better to not think it did 50,000), that sounds solid to me. Yeah, Brawl fared better at debut, but it still seems solid to me, sales-wise.

I won't pretend to speak for Microsoft but I will say that the lower price point and the holiday season are going to work well for the Sunset Overdrive bundle in the short term. The white color will also attract second console owners. Either swapping out the black Xbone for the white one or just picking up a new one. A lot of what happened with the Destiny bundle for the PS4. Except this is the same price as the black console.

The game sold 70k in its first week according to MP90, thats not a bomba dude. WOM will be huge, it always is for Forza.

It's the first handheld version of one of the biggest Nintendo franchises in recent history and it launched at list one and a half months before the console version. Should be quite an extraordinary seller.

Edit: but again, this is UK where Nintendo is almost non-existent. (for reference check the EGX thread right here)

Dude, you're about two posts away from creating a 'word of mouth' meme that will haunt you for all time. Step back from the brink!
