Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

I'm sure the 6:1 hardware ratio had something to do with that. This generation we have the most powerful system selling the most, too. There's no excuse.
Eh, they want to sell on all platforms because one platform, even as far ahead as PS4 (and it isn't that far ahead), isn't enough this early in the generation and they don't want to torpedoe future installments on making a trend seem likely...if it is at all, anyway. I made these kinds of views known in many statements well before the generation started that publishers would make these sorts of choices, whether forced by software ambition/quality of performance/hardware limitation/threat to software sales across other platforms. They always do this and there are many examples of this across time. Why anyone expects that to change now, I have no idea. I could construct many cases where it makes zero sense why a platform got what it did relative to another, given its specs and previous examples of performance, but I would also be foolish to assume I know all of the constraints involved with how those games ended up.

Yeah! Remember when some games only had 5/8ths the pixels? That worked just fine for our society, thank you very much

Appeal to tradition is not a particularly compelling argument
Eh, it's a history of how it happens, not what makes sense or seems right or fair. It hasn't changed in all of this time, so why expect different now?

So they intentionally forced parity in order to avoid debates? FUCK OFF UBISOFT

Seriously Ubisoft should really catch hell for this.

They have. I've cancelled my pre-order and replaced it with the new PES.

I don't upgrade my choice in main console to have Ubisoft downgrade my games because they want a parity.

Oh, yes.

I'm not going to lie and say I won't be buying this now, but I will definitely be buying it used from Gamefly when they have it for $20 or so.

I didn't buy the more powerful console so I could play gimped versions of multiplatfom titles. If I wanted that I would have bought an Xbox One.

I can't support this kind of shady practice.

Are you guys seriously this upset and not buying it anymore because it's 900p instead of 1080p?
Upset? No. Annoyed is the word. My TV set is 1080p, it was (and it still is to my eyes) a good TV when I bought it some years ago but, like many LCD TVs, any other resolution than the native one looks washed out/a bit fuzzy on it. All my PS4 games display at 1080p and I'm very happy with the clarity it brings so it has become a must for me now.

Many games are out this october/november, some even more important than AC. I won't buy them all, not because I don't have the money but because I like to complete my games and it takes time. Not ticking the right boxes actually serves me right, it makes my gaming choices easier. And just like that, Unity left my shopping list. Resolution is not the only parameter here, it's the icing on a multi-layered cake made of Ubisoft gameplay fatigue, a lack of excitement regarding the game's setting (I was much more interested with the previous naval settings) and a general apathy about this entry (even though I'm french).

Congrats, Ubi. You lost a sale from me. Idiots. I was going to get the PC version but I won't support a company that pulls this shit.

I won't support a product that's gimped for the sake of licking Microsoft's nuts.
I am surprised you supported them after the always online drm in their PC games. Well they use to do that for a long time last gen.

I can't believe people actually care about this. If a few extra pixels suddenly makes a game less fun, that really says something.

I know you're banned already, but if you're reading this, I am seriously considering returning the Surface 2 Pro I bought last week as protest against this kind of behavior by MS. I spent $900 on this tablet and honestly I really love this thing, it's literally the only MS product I've really loved since the 360 but if I can hurt MS financially and teach them a lesson I'm willing to do that.

Your move, MS and Ubisoft. I still have about 25 days left on the 30 days return period.

What resolution does to people. I can't believe that this generation has turned into a numbers game.

Not taking advantage of a more powerful system for the sake of not wanting people comparing versions is complete garbage.

It would be no different if in the 16-bit era Acclaim decided to go with 61 on screen colors for the SNES version of a game for parity with the Genesis.

Good thing there's a game that looks great, outputs 1080p and trumps every AC in terms of gameplay and design. Off to execute some Uruks.

Are you guys seriously this upset and not buying it anymore because it's 900p instead of 1080p?

Yep. Some of us consumers actually have principles and will forego enjoyment of a product if it doesn't meet out standards. If we all acted like you and didn't complain when a product was held back from its full potential, we'd still have 360's red ringing from last generation and DRM equipped Xbox Ones this generation. We would still have a broken Battlefield 4 game and we'd just have to except the fact that Aliens:Colonial Marines was a huge lie without the developers having to accept responsibility.

Believe it or not, it's actually our job as consumers to point out the bullshit or else the producers of these products can can do whatever the fuck they want to. If you don't personally care about all this than fine but don't give the people who do shit about it. And unless you've never in your life complained about something you've bought then you're also being a hypocrite. Personally it bothers me that Ubisoft is straight-up telling us they could give us a better product on PS4 but are choosing not to for what... to not give them bad press? Well that's not working out so far based on this thread.

First the Rayman Wii U debacle, then the Watchdogs bait & switch and now shit like this?
I have to say that they make it really easy for me to keep ignoring their output and give my money to a company that actually deserves support instead of shitty companies like this and EA.

Meh, its Assassins Creed,i would not touch it even if it was the only 1080P game on Xbox One, hell, i would not touch it even if i had an Xbox One :p

But,im surprised there isnt more discussion about what they said of the CPU limitations for the consoles, from what i have seen.

Fuck ubisoft, can't believe they're holding back a version because of butt hurt MS

Really? They're the scummiest company in the industry outside of EA. I can definitely believe it. If the PS4 version flops they'll get the picture, too bad it will still be the best selling version -_-

I have both as well...but yet again you are trying to lay blame on consumers that decided to buy Xbox Ones. I don't get that line of thinking.

I'm not blaming them for Ubisoft's decision. That's not what I'm saying. Geez.

Ubisoft is the one to blame here. I was simply explaining where Ubisoft got their "reasoning". You can't say that people with Xbox Ones never complained about having a "weaker version" can you? You can't. Otherwise, where did the "debates" that Ubisoft are trying to avoid come from?

Geez. I'm not blaming consumers. It's not their fault.

Good thing there's a game that looks great, outputs 1080p and trumps every AC in terms of gameplay and design. Off to execute some Uruks.

Yeah, gotta quote this. I think I'll buy the season pass with the money I just freed up.

Well... Hope the PS4 user base votes with their wallets.

On an enthusiast forum such as this, you'll see a lot of people agree with you. In practise, I don't think average Joe gives a shit, they just want the game. If enough critics / youtubers and alike voice distaste towards it, that may change. I really wouldn't be surprised of hearing that they got their best sales numbers from this game just as they did Watch Dogs, which had pretty horrible sentiment behind it

Where was this so called righteousness of not buying the game because of parity when Bungie did the same thing with Destiny? And that game is marketed by Sony.

We don't even know if AC : Unity features better graphical effects, more stable framerate on PS4 than its Xbox counterpart but you guys already going nuts.

Talk about picking your battles.

It benefits Microsoft, because it neutralizes a distinct advantage of the PlayStation.

Pretty sure parity clauses are the secret sauce.

done & done :) ...

& don't anyone tell me how i need to support all consoles because 'competition!' - not when someone's idea of 'competition' results in crap like this...

This must be the most stupid decision I've heard this generation.

I want the best you can give me for my 60 bucks, not a stupidly downgraded game.

Well... they have made this easy for me: I won't buy this game for my PS4... I'll spend my money in all the other games we'll have next two months.

Reactions to this are ridiculous to say the least.

Also, PS4 version probably runs better anyway.

How? They're locking it at 30 and making it XBO graphics and resolution. It's like Destiny all over again except this time instead of everyone getting native 1080p, NOBODY is getting 1080p. Except PC which is somehow exempt from their parity bullshit.

"We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff," senior producer Vincent Pontbriand told VideoGamer.com

Really? Well, then I just decided to not buy the game to avoid this bullshit.

The fact that the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Unity are going to run and look the same doesn't bother me at all! Honestly, I could care less.

However, the fact that the developers somehow tried to use this excuse to justify WHY they will look the same, is just utterly ridiculous. To say "we want to avoid all the debate and stuff." and that is your excuse for not pushing each system's advantages really irks me. I mean, there were so many other high road explanations they could use, but they chose this excuse.

The only reasons I can think that Ubisoft would do this are:

c) They have a launch date to make and have enough bugs to fix without caring about about performance beyond where it is

Personally I think a) is the most likely reason.

This is my guess considering the website quote on this page.
