Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

But anyone who prefers PS4 is sacrificing the graphical quality. Not compared with the XB1 version, but compared to what it otherwise would have been, judging by Ubisoft's comment.
So because you prefer to play on XB1, people who prefer to play on PS4 can't have a better graphics? That's the most selfish thing I ever read on hear wow...

The percentage of people who would be upset if one version was inferior to the other, would be much higher than those who object the parity. It has been proven over the past 1 and half year. Destiny was one of the most successful games this year on both consoles, because of the graphical parity. (Diablo also a good example)

Seems like you absolutely don't understand what the problem here is. So you just entered this thread to tell us that you're buying the Xbone version.

I do, but you should also understand how less appealing inferior versions are, sales wise.

They're dumbing down thier own game for "parity reasons." Why should I feel compelled to buy their product? I have no obligation to do so.

Right? Especially after the Watch Dogs debacle, this just feels like more Ubisoft bullshit. They've always cared more about their business partners than their consumers and know they're just coming right out and telling us. Fuckin' debates and stuff, come the fuck on!

I like how everyone here is assuming they are saying "we lowered res on PS4 to make it the same as xbox one's" when its obviously the other way round.
Game was agoing to be 900p on PS4 anyway. Microsoft asked the devs to get it running at the same res as the PS4, regardless of the performance hit.

Because, like this thread shows, numbers are everything people will ever care about.

Source for this "obvious" fact?

As long as PS4 can handle 1080p at 30fps, it doesn't make much sense to drop to 900p. You can't avoid cross-platform debates.

That being said, the idea that you won't buy the game because of this decision is truly ignorant. If a slightly worse image ruins the entire act of playing and enjoying this game, what does that really say about your rationality?

Some of you guys are hilarious. Allowing yourself to miss out on something that might be fun because of the lack of a resolution difference between some consoles.

Has anyone considered that maybe they don't feel it is worth their time to (read: ROI) to optimize the game to run better on PS4? For every forum poster that isn't picking up the game because of parity there are 1000 that have already pre-ordered.

Then why not say that? Why say we forced parity in order to avoid debates and such?

What would Ubisoft know about parity?

???

Are you saying the game would have done worse if there wasn't parity? I don't agree with that at all if that's the case. The game was hyped too much.

It's all good. The better "Assassins" game came out last week and was not gimped for the sake of parity. Shadows of Mordor more than scratches the AC itch for the year. Your loss, Ubi.

I'm always left baffled by some of the decisions made by the big publishers. They think they know what their consumers want even if consumers are saying otherwise. The game will probably be shit anyway like most Ubisoft games.

Why should people who bought a PS4 be punished for MS's incompetence?

I just said I don't support parity. The PS4 is stronger than the XB1, thus it should get a port that plays to that strength.

900p for a PS4 game doesn't sound right unless there are actual REASONS for it. The Xbox One version of ACU sounds very rough, so we'll see how the PS4 version performs.

If performance on the PS4 version is lacking as well, then it will confirm what I said about this being more about engine/coding issues, and less about dastardly co-marketing and evil plots.

I just don't see how anyone benefits from this.

XB1 owners get the same game they would get but PS4 owners are potentially losing out due to "avoiding debate".

That's not right.

The funny thing is, if they had announced the game was 1080p on PS4 and 900p on XB1, this thread would be a fraction of the size.

And it would have been 90% full of "No shit, what else did you expect?" and "I don't really care, it's a small difference and I want to play co-op with my friends on Xbox"

Oh no! The debates!

Not buying this shit now. Locked at parity to stop debates? Really?

Parity? lol okay.

there's going to be more backlash because of this than one advantage console.

Exactly. I'm cancelling this game from my wish list. Seriously, knowing that there's more owners on PS4, & you're going to keep both versions of the games the same just to please a tiny minority of Xbox One owners? Fuck that shit.

Besides, Assassin's Creed: Rogue sounds much better.

Not sure if this was asked and answered but like where was the parity last gen? Multiplats were better on the 360 and all PS3 owners got was it rubbed in their face with DF articles. I don't think I recall ever seeing a 360 game held back to avoid discussion on how the 360 version outshines the PS3 version. I remember articles about PC being held back but that's a separate discussion. Seems strange to hold back a console this gen when that wasn't the case last.

The PR guys for this game are awful (or don't know how to keep the team on point). So many silly statements that they should've known would sound stupid. How did anyone think "we're limiting things to nuke debate" was a good line to say to anyone?

You and a lot of people are missing the point.
It's not that the resolutions are the same. It that they pretty much admitted that they purposely gimped the PS4 version so that it would be the same as XB1.

But if they really cared about having the best version they would've bought a PS4 or a PC.

Uhh, if we learned anything, it's that parity is NOT fine, did you not see the Destiny thread when it was announced that both consoles were hitting 1080p?

MS is at fault for not rubustly speccing the XB1, but at the same time, they're in a position where they can't gain anything, any how, because everything falls into 3 categories.

1) Game is 1080p on both consoles: BOO! PS4 got shafted! Why can't the devs give us 8xMSAA or Super Duper HBAO+++ on PS4? Why isn't the game 1080p60?!

2) Game is less than 1080p on both or either consoles: BOO! PS4 got shafted! Xbone is holding us back!

3) Game is 1080p on PS4, 900p/???p on XB1: LMAO, ZOMG, Xbone iz so week!!111!! (As if it hasn't been know for over a year that the PS4 has pretty sizable hardware advantage >.>)

Pretty much, no matter what they do, they lose somehow. It's not an enviable position, and if I were an MS engineer, I'd feel like bashing my head against the wall, because the XB1 reputation gets a hit from this no matter what they do.

I don't support parity, but I think this entire things is rather overblown and is covering the real issue here. I don't really think the game is 900p on both consoles just cause MS paid them so (As GribbleGrunger and others are so keen to spectate). I think the real issue is that the engine for ACU is giving them trouble and the game needs another couple of months in the oven.

You've had quite a few goes at this already, but keep going, and you'll accidently bump your head on the actual point eventually.

this thread sure is a contrast to the dispassionate aloofness in the 30 vs 60fps thread.

Your posts always act like a turbo-boost on my scroll wheel. I see that seal avatar and I just know it's going to have something awful typed to the right of it, like a bargain bin Jerry Sadowitz trying to drum up some controversy.

Exactly, people are finally in terms with the power difference, as they should be and concentrating other things to discuss. But this parity thing just works against finally formed consensus.

Yes Polygon. Lets find issues about women in games where none exist, or how a kiss in a game tutorial is bad because you use the same move to kill, but without issue, have a editor use a term that come from a homophobic background (hey I can be indignant about something small too, I should work for Polygon).

I can't wait to hear that Far Cry 4 was gimped so that nobody would debate if current or last gen is better. That's seriously the worst excuse I've heard for parity.

.

Do we know this for sure though? Couldn't the game have followed the "792p vs. 900p" trend like other AAA Ubisoft games?
