So let me get this straight...

Ubi deliberately gimped the PS4 version of the game because MS gave them a giant bag of money... AND the French people in this game set in Paris, France during the French Revolution don't even parlez-vous Français with genuine French accents (or even passable fake ones)... AND the only way to play the game is via forced co-op... AND I can't even play as a chick?
 
Only because Microsoft actually confirmed what the uptick was on the CPU.

Sony never ever confirmed what it was, but some developers said the CPU is indeed faster than Xbox One.

On top of all that, remember, PS4 has a lot of dedicated hardware for other tasks, such as the TruAudio DSP and ARM processor for networking tasks. This frees the PS4 CPU up to focus on the game alone.

I hate to get into this salt mine, but the XBone also has a dedicated Sound solution. It is actually quite good in its task, arguably better than the one in the PS4. Just as the PS4 has a far better Graphics solution than the XBone.

Really the CPU's in both consoles are piss poor in comparison to what they could have had. But if you had to believe fanboys these things where Monsters that could literally take on Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra and the whole Pacific Rim Cast (Jaeger and Kaiju) at the same time.

It's just two Tablet CPU's taped together guys...
 
People don't really think MS paid money to lower the resolution on PS4 do they?

At this point, who really knows.
It's been shown a couple of times already that MS is putting pressure on developers in one way or another. Be that holding back features on competing platforms, parity between different versions or trying to get exclusivity deals.

Hell, if they go as far as to twist the arm of a small company that does nothing but produce a niche pinball game in such a way that a version coming out on a competing platform (PS4 in this case) has to be pushed back until the game has been released on Xbone, how far do you think these people are willing to go with a big name that sells millions of copies?

PS4 Update
We will be launching Season Two shortly after the XBox One is released. This is because of a condition Microsoft requested for exclusive content. We must launch Season Two on XBox One before we can launch on PS4. Everyone will be notified when their tables have been unlocked!
 
Pixel counters said the beta build on XB1 was in the 700-800p area so its possible they did bump it up to 900p for parity.

Image Quality is god damn dreadful.

I dont really follow the mhz wars too closely, I simply bought both stupid machines so i dont really care (its ..small sized men wars anyway), but last i heard before launch xbone did receive an upclock of around 8-10% on the cpu? so ps4 retail units is like 1600 and xbone retail like ~1750?
definitely no xbone disadvantage there, if the above are still correct.

Matt is trusted developer and insider.

Xbone CPU is clocked higher but in practical situations PS4 CPU outperforms it. Reasons? I'm guessing because Xbone has 3 OS, and the gaming OS is virtualized.

My friend has an 8 year old kid that even knows the difference.

That part it's just pure speculation.

It's probably? Yes, but no one really knows for sure if that's exactly what happened.
 
we'll never hear the truth because those contacts are private and not for public eyes. the only way we might see what happened is when some employee talks about it 5 years later.

the last thing MS wants is for PR fuck-up like the one UBI blurted out today.

I personally believe it due the past parity clauses that are known about. indie parity clause and the content parity clause during the 360 generation.

The indie parity clause has NOTHING to do with this.

Emotions are high and people are just reaching right now because we have almost no information to go off of.
 
Oh, hohoho... So they nerfed Xbone superior CPU performance to match inferior PS4 one.

Also, I hope everyone raging now about forced parity, held their purchases on all those multiplats gimped by PS3 weaker specs.

Or maybe people are just tired of it? It's a terrible practice that needs to end. I've owned every system each gen and I've always thought this was bullshit. I think a lot of people also jumped over from the 360 to PS4 since X1 was expensive with worse specs and wanted better quality on multiplats like 360 had over a lot of PS3 versions.

Regardless the gen, this sucks. It's bad for the game and gamers.
 
This has gone from a day 1 purchase to a wait and see if they patch it. If not oh well I'll probably pick it up when it dips below $20.

I think that if ps4 had an advantage in cpu, they would shout it from the top of the mountains, exactly like they did for their memory difference.

plus, I am pretty sure that back then I followed a link and somehow saw a sony uk page that had an ad where it said that one "ps4 = ~50 ps2 with the clockspeed of 8x1600" or something like that.

and I do also remember the rumors (leaks that could not be officially confirmed is my guess) that the dev machines that emulated the ps4, they could crank the mhz all the way up to 2500mhz +, but that was for dev machines, early emulators.


anyway, if there is a definite official spec sheet, that would be cool. if not, then I guess my first sentence is what it is.

Sounds about right, Rogue is shaping up to be the better game and it's not even running at 900p.
 
Microsoft paying a company to intentionally lower the resolution of a game for parity sounds absolutely ludicrous to me, and I won't believe it until I see concrete evidence of such.

Oh really? So why all the sudden devs care about resolution and general parity when last gen majority of games weren't? What changed? There's only one company getting worked up about the whole resolution deal and that's Microsoft.

Good god that is fucking hideous. Of course the e3 presentation was probably running on a $4000+ machine.

As I keep saying, get ready for 6GB+ VRAM boys. My PC philosphy is go Ultra, or go home....which is why console is my platform of choice for the next 2 years.

I've always argued that "forced parity" accusations are the insane ramblings of cretins, but well there you have it. If the avoidance of debate was their aim they're fucked, because now it will be all anyone talks about.

Which is funny to me, are these guys just so tightly knit. It's funny that when people are a bit reserved about polygon how certain people believe there's no bias. I just don't understand this gaming journalism, speaking so despicable of gaf is Gies, (condescending fashion) why? We are only discussing a disturbing discovery..
 
Seriously now this needs immediate action from gamers. Remeber what gamers were able to do with MS and XBOXONE original plan.

This is BULLSHIT! If we as gamers allow this to go by, then this is going to become a trend for most 3rd party devs out there.

"Hey they buy that shit either way even if it is downgraded on their system, so why should we bother?"

There needs to be a collective reaction on this, in hopes that this crap, wont become the norm. I am disgusted by this.

Ubisoft game so 6GB VRAM will be enough for medium settings. If you want AC Unity at ultra settings you need 24GB VRAM.

What if MS helped to make AC Unity be 900p on the Xbox One? What if the game was originally set to be less than 900p on the Xbox One?

This wouldn't negate the fact that Ubisoft still held back the PS4 version but even if they did, I doubt the reaction would be the same because you would have had a 900p vs. --less than 900p-- situation; PS4 version would still be better and people would accept that since it's the more powerful system.

This is all just me speculating though. Overall, what I'm trying to say is MS could have added on to this current reaction without them intending to (if again, it's true that they helped AC Unity be 900p on the Xbox One -- but again, it's just me thinking about multiple situations that have led up to this).
 
personally don't see how this benefits microsoft at all they probably know it's automatic bad pr for them when things like this happen, this is just purely UBISOFT in my opinion
 
A few thoughts on this latest controversy:

- I don't think boycotts are that effective and I believe that most people here who are cancelling their preorders in rage will end up buying the game. I do boycott games with some regularity but I do it to stay true to my principles, not because I believe my stance will change anything.

- I can understand why Playstation owners might be frustrated but in the end, it's not that big of a deal. I'm sure the framerate will be more solid on PS4 and maybe the game will have some extra effects.

- Ubisoft doesn't want either of the console audiences to feel like it's getting a worse experience compared to the other and honestly, I understand that. It makes a certain degree of sense as a decision.
