Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

Oh, hohoho... So they nerfed Xbone superior CPU performance to match inferior PS4 one.

Also, I hope everyone raging now about forced parity, held their purchases on all those multiplats gimped by PS3 weaker specs.

Show me the multiplats that are as severely gimped as they are gimping this.

so I only read page 1 then pressed reply..
but the way I read it, they say "WE ARE CPU BOUND, NOT GPU",
and they decide to lock down to same specs.
but xbone has a faster clock on the cpu, doesnt it?

Only because Microsoft actually confirmed what the uptick was on the CPU.

Sony never ever confirmed what it was, but some developers said the CPU is indeed faster than Xbox One.

On top of all that, remember, PS4 has a lot of dedicated hardware for other tasks, such as the TruAudio DSP and ARM processor for networking tasks. This frees the PS4 CPU up to focus on the game alone.

See above.

Keep making noise, people.

Fuck you, Ubisoft. Preorder cancelled. Never mind that 900p/30fps is a joke in this day and age, I simply won't support a developer that pulls off stunts like this. Plenty of games in November anyway, so instead one of your competitors will be seeing my money. Good job.

This is exactly the only valid response.

Let the PS4 version sell like shit and they will patch it to 1080p in like a week.

No way for Ubi to monetize the game on Xbox one.

I guess I'll get GTA V instead. It's a shame because Black Flag was great and easily the best launch window game. Here we are a year later and things are going backwards rather than forwards...

Hahahaha.
If you were planning on buying it before this......you are still gonna buy it now.
Parity or no parity.

I know you just want to vent but no one believes you.....wont buy the game because of parity.

Psn name is stealthieone, you won't ever see an assassin's creed trophy on my ps4 until i hear news that the game wasn't gimped due to Microsoft

Have you ever heard the phrase "Don't judge a book by its cover"?
Well it works both ways, do you think that a game that underforms visually or is not a looker is an automatic gameplay masterpiece? Many of the games that have been hyped to high heavens as the next-gen ticket have under-delivered so far, don't be so fooled either.

I still play games below native, (when I have to). I have a 1440p monitor and I play ultra sf4 at 720 60fps, it's all I could muster with my 520 Nvidia card. The PS4 is much better than that setup and there's a standard which I hold up for it, especially seeing the games which have managed 1080p on it and the ones upcoming.

I'll tell you this much, when I build my gaming rig later next year, I won't be playing any game below native rez on my 1440p monitor.

Lol.

I wonder what is more economically feasible for a company to do. Grind to the bone to get the shittier version up to snuff, or tone down the one running perfectly.

That guy is bonkers.

What if the engine itself is unoptimizied and just runs like complete shit like those impressions from the French Journalist earlier were stating? Seeing how Microsoft has marketing dollars in this, they probably sent people to help optimize the XB1 version of the game while Sony didn't which may be why we are having this situation. I'm not saying anything I'm writing here is for real, I'm just trying to open people up to more options of what could happen here besides "OHH IT"S ALL MICROSOFTS FAULT" which leads to the stupid flame wars on both sides. We need to look at this from all angles and not just a "Fuck Microsoft" angle.

Most of all, I'm more than worried that the PC version is gonna suffer the same fate in a way and be even more unoptimized with the new engine even more so than past AC games. I feel like it's gonna end up worse than the Watch Dogs PC port.

Guys, if you don't want resolution fuckery, just go pc. Because if if nobody cares and it sells (which it will, its asscreed) i wouldn't be surprised if more game try and go for parity like this.

Most console gamers do not care about PC; I don't know why people always say this. PC and consoles are like two dif. worlds. Plus, UBI on PC isn't exactly a guaranteed success in regards to optimization.

Why would anybody UPGRADE something that is already performing badly, versus downgrading something that is performing well enough in order to achieve parity? That would make little to no sense at all. They clearly said that they were bottlenecked by the CPU on BOTH consoles, preventing them from IMPROVING performance.

I am running a 4 year old Amd CPU with a relatively powerful GPU so I know a bit about cpu bottlenecking, and I doubt that is a real issue with Unity.

I probably wasn't alone, but I called this shit when they came out swinging on MS's.. erm... arm at e3. I'm still pissed even after walking down to pick up my son from school. Shadow of Mordor it is. Can someone make that a thing to spread around on twitter?

Not sure if serious

Not sure if in bizzarro world anymore..

Are we really commenting this piece of news like the guy really did mean "you know, we capped the PS4 version at 900p/30 so it wouldn't be too much better than xbone's " ?
Let me know.

I would think "We locked both version at the same specs" from the mouth of a developer means "we are such lousy devs we intentionally gimped PS4 version" but rather "we're such good devs, we did all we could to ensure Xbone's version would match PS4's".

It would be impossible for them to get the same performance as the PS4 because it's more powerful. They cant just pull that extra power out of their ass.

Of course it's possible, if both games run at a locked, PERFECT 30fps.
If that was the case then people would be right claiming the PS4 could do more, but i don't think that's the case.

What are you even talking about, it was pretty clear that almost every mutliplat ran better on Xbox 360 last gen. This helped sales for them. Every fucking thread on gaf was flled with people checking framerate and waiting to play the game on the system that it ran better on. This gen better hardware means shit because LOL parity clause.

do you not understand what is going on here or something?

If u think MS wasn't behind this, then u really don't know MS. This was my biggest fear after the console specs were confirmed this gen. MS doesn't have as big a hand this gen at forcing this issue because it lags in sales, but it will surface every now and then for some big titles. Whatever interest I had in this title is gone now, just on principle. So weak mann. Last gen saw all kinds of 3rd party games running and looking better on 360. Parity was not issue because Sony wasn't giving out those money bags.

PS3/360 used different architecture, so that might explain......

Nevermind.

I'm no longer interested in this series but, I would hate for other devs and pubs to go this route. I don't think I can buy a game where a publisher says this.

This is fucked up, there was me thinking a publisher would never be stupid enough to force parity, how naive I was.

If it is Microsoft doing this though, it can only benefit Sony in the long run. Microsoft will get the publishers to cripple themselves, the Sony exclusives will look better and stand out more. Or maybe it could even cripple next gen altogether, make it less appealing to new gamers so they stick with there phones.

"We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff"

Translated: "Microsoft paid a shitload of money to hide the fact their console is much worse"

This.

Seriously UBI? ... so fuck you, I'm not buying this shit.

I am sure the same happend to Watch Dogs.

As somebody who doesn't know how difficult it is to code videogames and all of the technical work that goes into them, if Ubisoft said they are locking the game at 900p/30fps so they can focus on adding or improving the game in other areas, I would more or less accept that. Do I want the version on PS4 to be 1080p because it -probably- is capable of it, yes.

But to not try to fully optimize the PS4 version of Assassin's Creed to avoid debate and comparisons is just...

I have no words. Well, except piss off.

Is it possible that Sony inadvertently make a mistake by making their console roughly 50% more powerful?
What I meann is, we are seeing a trend where 3rd party devs don't bother with the extra power. EA sports games, destiny, unity etc are identical on both consoles so only 1st party title are really using that extra power. Might make them not push power next gen (ps5) seeing as its not really worth it. Hope that doesn't happen :(

Microsoft paying a company to intentionally lower the resolution of a game for parity sounds absolutely ludicrous to me, and I won't believe it until I see concrete evidence of such.

we'll never hear the truth because those contacts are private and not for public eyes. the only way we might see what happened is when some employee talks about it 5 years later.

the last thing MS wants is for PR fuck-up like the one UBI blurted out today.

I personally believe it due the past parity clauses that are known about. indie parity clause and the content parity clause during the 360 generation. MS isn't below compromising the competitions userbase.

I don't have any MS products in my house. Not buying a PC as a "fix" to them money hating dev to gimp console games.

Microsoft certainly gives a shit and it does affect sales. Look at how they forced 1080p for Diablo despite the devs original design. Destiny was baselined against the Xbone version after the Microsoft resolution police freaked out about 900p (see DF's observations on the original PS4 Destiny reveal vs release).

Microsoft is losing a ton of console and software sales because word is out that the Xbox One has weaker hardware. They are pulling all stops to avoid that including overclocking CPU/GPU, giving back Kinect resources, forcing parity, compelling devs to shoot for 1080p on Xbone, promising cloud/DX12/etc.

Damn. See thread title, think 'this is going to be good', read a few pages of gold, see it's over 60 pages already. These console wars are something else.

If it is true that the Xbox is spending money behind the scenes to force console parity, I can see how that would be annoying for PS4 owners, but we don't really know that they're doing that. It doesn't seem beyond the realm of possibility, however.

Wait you'd prefer less effects and details just so you can get 1080p??
I prefer a clean and sharp image with good IQ. I hate the upscaling blur and loss of detail on non-native games. I don't care about your highly detailed shadows or textures if they're going to look less so being upscaled.

No, all this does is make third party developers looks shity. First party games will always look and run amazing.

If the engine's CPU bound then good luck raising the frame rate by lowering resolution. Someone should tell them to try decreasing the number of AI on screen. Maybe that will help.

No, Microsoft made the mistake and Sony's first party developers will embarass other developers who don't choose to take advantage of it.
