Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

I don't know. After some of the previews today, I am expecting this game to take some hits. But I am still looking forward to playing it.

The previews really paint a bad picture on the performance, there's only a month to go and I don't think Ubisoft will solve the issues. I was looking forward to parkour around Paris, but I'm expecting the worst, definitely not gonna be day 1.

You didn't see the gifs? Here you go.

Not sure how you're meant to improve on perfection but worth a try.

I could see it more likely they couldn't get the ps4 version to 1080p/30fps and they just recently got the xbox version to 900p. Maybe with some MS help.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this. Gonna be interesting to see if the truth ever comes out. Then again we will be able to tell how bad the engine runs once the game is out, but that articles someone posted earlier about the game having very buggy animations and a horrible framerate makes me believe more in this theory than the "Microsoft Shady deal" Theory.

O_o ? Ok :)

I need to look that up, but thanks for letting me know :)

Aaaaand what is the "pop" joke, please ?

Pop, is the description people use to describe colors and overall picture quality with crushed blacks.

@eso

There were plenty of people mad at Destiny parity. There were people wanting better AA and IQ for PS4 overall.

Holy shit. "We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff" is one of the most idiotic things I have heard in my life

Apparently the Xbone version has dips. I wonder if they're going to artificially induce frame drops on the PS4 version to achieve true parity.

I can't help but think he just explained this really poorly, because he then goes on to say they're CPU bound, and both consoles are nearly identical on that front.

The CPU comment only explains why they didn't target 60fps. (Because they couldn't get frame times low enough for the CPU tasks they wanted to do.)

If they have a deal with Microsoft it makes sense to make the PS4 version 900p. These deals are supposed to make the game more appealing on the Xbone. If PS4 were 1080p, I would buy that version regardless of extra goodies. If they're both 900p, I'm going with the one that has extras. Think about it. Note, I'm not buying either.

I think the chemtrails have got to you man! You are talking utter nonsense.*

*not really this makes a lot of sense.

I doubt MS put a clause in the marketing contract or whatever. More like "hey you know it would be great if this game ran the same on the PS4 and one, know what I mean? oh yeah bob I know exactly what you mean!"

A lot of fancy words that will be more accurately resumed by "We know that even if we're lazy on optimisation, you'll still buy our shit."
Not this time ubisoft. Dis this time you went one step too far.
There are many other Devs I can throw my money at, none for you this year.

There is no proof, hence the additional debate.

But the problem is the things we know:

* Ubisoft said it's CPU bound, spouting AI bullshit, but not mentioning GPU
* The Xbox One is considerably (40%~50%) weaker than the PS4
* They run on very similar architecture
* The only games that match parity have maxed out at common thresholds like 720/1080p and 30/60
* The game runs at 900p/30 on both devices
* 900p is NOT a threshold
* 1080p isn't a huge jump from 900p.
* Microsoft has been at the forefront of AC:Unity marketing

Combining all of that, we know that a device that is vastly more capable than the other should be easily able to make the jump from 900p to 1080p. No problem. Why pick such a weird resolution for the PS4 when it obviously is powerful than the XB1?

It's pretty easy to figure out the issue.

Spot on. It feels like you'd need to be willfully ignorant not to connect the dots here...

Yeah I have heard the same performance and bug rumors. I think it was a beta version though.

It's fucking ludicrous. The reactions and the images people are making are extremely childish as well.
I don't think people literally think Microsoft gave Ubisoft a sack of cash for parity. The images are supposed to be over the top for comedic effect.

People do think however since Ubisoft has a co-marketing deal with Microsoft for Assassin's Creed Unity they could have nudged and pressured them in subtle ways to achieve parity.

I can't wait until this game sells gangbusters regardless of how Ubisoft decides to save money.

And Yes people, it does save Ubisoft money not having to bother further optimize for platforms beyond a set baseline. PC Gamers have dealt with this for years, welcome to the club.

Reminds of how Watch_Dogs Went from looking awesome on a GTX 680 to not so awesome when Development was shifted to a certain leading console...

Yeah I have heard the same performance and bug rumors. I think it was a beta version though.

Using that beta to a Journalist while the game is only a month and half away from release is a bit worrying though in terms of it's performance. Being a new engine and all I knew Ubi was gonna have some trouble optimizing this correctly. I feel like they should be delaying this game til next year, but they want to rush it in usual Ubi Fasion for some reason.

Please explain to me how on earth this can be an accurate comparison. Please.

Square Enix released a game on multiple platforms allowing more users access to a big game. Pro consumer.

Ubi is holding back a version of their game very very very likely due to a marketing deal which causes the larger userbase to have a lower quality version of the game than their console is capable of. Anti consumer.

Its sketchy as hell plain and simple. Laugh about "Gaf outrage" all you want. It is 100% warranted on this one.

Ridicule is a great way to shut up legit criticism. In fact, it might be the best way short of violence or threats of violence.

I figured one of the publishers would bite on this parity clause crap eventually. Preorder cancelled :P Let's hope other publishers DON'T follow this example.

It's fucking ludicrous. The reactions and the images people are making are extremely childish as well.

So realistically, if Ubisoft said, for parity sake, we are doing the game at 720p, in which we all know is parity with the Wii U..... You would be fine with this?

Please explain how it's extremely childish to want better?

So this is what Albert Penello meant when he said "Seriously? There is no way we’re giving up a 30%+ advantage to Sony"

But but but conspiracy theory.

If they could get the PS4 version to 1080p they should have just done that and left the XB1 version at 900p. That would still leave the Xbox version in better shape than the majority of PS3 multiplats last gen. lol.

Some of us prefer to work off of facts, rather than conjecture.

But, to each his own.

There will be no facts released, since this kind of thing would be shrouded in NDA'd back room deals.

But, if enough of a stink were made one of the parties involved would probably release some PR.

I could see it more likely they couldn't get the ps4 version to 1080p/30fps and they just recently got the xbox version to 900p. Maybe with some MS help.

This all seems more like a Destiny situation than a situation where the game was running at 1080p and was downgraded due to MS money.

If I was to look at it reasonably, I would imagine the situation was that the game was at 900p on the PS4 and something lower on the XB1. They couldn't get it to run at 1080p in a reliable way on the PS4, so kept it at 900p. And with help from MS's engineers (a la Destiny) were able to get it up to 900p. If I were a betting man, I imagine the PS4 version will still look better in the end (more effects, better/more consistent framerate...something). It'll just be harder to argue this point on paper (no 1080p vs 900p talking point for the warz).

I'm not saying it was the right decision by Ubi or is fair to all gamers...but this is far more believable than some master plan that consists of a performance parity payment made my MS to keep the PS4 down. Is it possible? Sure, I guess anything is possible...but it just doesn't seem likely given the other likely situations.

But I don't usually subscribe to conspiracy theories unless there is actual evidence.

I'm not saying they did but if I were Microsoft and throwing money at them for extras why wouldn't I? It's like giving PS4 a free incentive for customers that Sony didn't pay for. It better be 900p I would think.

I can't wait until this game sells gangbusters regardless of how Ubisoft decides to save money.

And that's the rub, isn't it? Ubisoft know that people will buy it in record numbers no matter what bad press or exposure about cutting corners is out there. They have done this with every single game they make. There is no bad press that is going to slow their machine.

I figured one of the publishers would bite on this parity clause crap eventually. Preorder cancelled :P Let's hope other publishers DON'T follow this example.

Now it's known, I hope they do because it means I'll just not buy their games. I'll assume any resolution and framerate parity on PS4 and XB1 is caused by parity clauses rather than maxed hardware.

Lol at the thinking that Microsoft isn't behind this.
It's like people forget that Microsoft sent their own workers to Bungie and Blizzard to make Destiny and Diablo 1080p. Which is absolutely ridiculous. So yes, I'm 100% sure that Microsoft is behind this because they are taking this resolution gate thing seriously.

Holy shit. "We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff" is one of the most idiotic things I have heard in my life

Yeah. I keep thinking this over and over. Even if this is their
pitiful
reasoning they should have just stfu and released the game.

Why is everyone so self-righteous about their ps4 edition of this game?
When you watch a movie in DVD or Bluray which one do you pay more for? The blu-ray one because it includes better sound and better picture quality sometimes a behind-the-scenes bonus but you pay roughly 50% more.

Game developers do not get anything back because they push their game to 1080p or 60fps there is no return on investment here. They still only get 60$ just like on the XO version and there is nothing justifying the extra cost just because a little group of people rants about 600k extra freaking pixels.
If the technology and investment is already there then of course you can push forward like for example InfamouS.
A company like ubisoft which created a new engine version because if next-gen then it is going to take time and investment to reach higher grounds.

1080p or 60fps is just extra gravy if the initial budget only covers the technology necessary to reach the minimum reference quality - in this case Xbox one

Of course there can always be some external "tampering" - which ms in this case is accused for but in my opinion that is a lot less likely.

Unity probably already costs A lot of freaking money and I am pretty sure they are running out of money for anymore changes. For them to invest extra resources for a freaking res-bump is not a priority.

This PR is howecer extremely and so freaking poorly planned and written that it would hace been beat if it wasnt released.

I could easily see MS being involved like in Destiny and Diablo; helping Ubi get the X1 version up to 900/30. I have a hard time believing that they paid to downgrade the PS4 version.
