I didn't read the article but man that looks like a penis.

I don't care about the resolution and 30fps in this type of game is fine with me. I can live with both.

However, with that said, I can't condone this practice or mentality. I'm not saying they were paid off by MSFT to do this, or this is just laziness or some other motive. I don't know and neither do I care about the why. I do care about this precedent and cannot contribute to it in any way shape or form. You have an idiot for a PR guy though. But I thank him for his [initial] honesty. Now I know and no damage control he spits out now under duress will change my mind. Pre-order canceled and changed to much more worthy developers.

If this game is 900p on the PS4, it better have the cleanest AA possible with the remaining overhead, and a decent level of AF and overall effects, like higher quality motion blur, high res textures, greater draw distance etc. If they've limited the PS4 version to the same as the Xbox One's 900p, they need to get rid of the high level of aliasing currently visible in all the Xbox One footage of gameplay. Still annoyed it's not going to be 1080p due to intentional limitation though. Looks like exclusives are going to be the far better deal this gen.

It should also have a smoother framerate. What we saw and heard about today is pretty choppy.

Sony needs to take a page from Microsoft's playbook and start pressuring publishers to take full advantage of the Ps4's hardware. I think it is lame to ever put such pressure on any developer, but Sony should not bring a knife to a gun fight. They made a better machine and they shouldn't allow Microsoft to try and rob them of that advantage through bullshittery like this.

I'm beginning to think Sony can't afford to send our their engineers to help out on big titles.

They would have already done so if they were capable.

Yea that makes this game a no buy. And maybe a steam super sale in a couple years. But uPlay and poor optimization :/

I hope ubisoft loved that MS money to pull this stunt.

Videogamer

Beat me with a 1080p display if old

So from now on we can expect Ubi's next titles to be "platform parity?". So much for the whole "develop regardless of the platform". I personally think it's lazy development. They know they can make the ps4 look better, but due to either pressures by Microsoft or some other outside resource they decide not to.

The people comparing this to Destiny are kinda missing the point. That game was cross gen so Bungie wasn't going to spend extra money making tons of assets not available in the last gen version. Since they didn't push the game itself that hard they were able to get 1080p on both current gen systems.

Unity is built from the ground up for PS4 / X1 and Ubi has hit 900p 30 fps on the weaker console. This isn't up for debate the X1 is 30 - 40% weaker than the PS4. If its 900p on X1 that leaves more than enough GPU power for PS4 to hit 1080p.

The games resolution was held back purposefuly. This should be very clear now.

I have only the xbone... I've come accept that Xbox is not as powerful and months ago said as long as I can get all Xbox games at 900p with comparable iq and frame rate even if not 1080p I'd be happy with it.

Hopefully for you ps4 guys they again put out a patch, us Xbox fans should come to peace with that by now.

If the ps4 can't do 1080p than that's on them but they should be coding to the ability of the box.

And to think, Ubi released a video comparing effects in Black Flag between last gen and current gen. And iirc, promised that Unity would be a true next-gen optimized experience. Hilarious.

In Watch dogs, it was the best they could do, not the same thing at all.

How is it not the same? Watch Dogs PS4 was 900p, AC:U PS4 is 900p. Two similar games with a 6 month period and they run at the same resolution and frame rate.

been waiting to make the jump, and this MS/Ubisoft crap just pushed me over the fence.

time to use my 10% target coupon. getting my ps4 and digital dc tonight.

I get that and understand that. But the guy I quoted said that he basically is entitled to all PS4 games to be 1080p because he spent $449 CA for it.

I have both systems and a very high end PC that I use at 4k, so believe me, I wish every game on every system would be 1080p. But realistically, there are going to be some games that are not.

Personally, I think the Xbox One and to a lesser degree the PS4 are under powered systems. I think the both should of been more powerful and be able to do more than what they currently showing. The "jump" was just not that substantial as they have in the past.

I wouldn't say that since I bought a PS4 I feel entitled to all games being in 1080p - more like I bought a PS4 for the opportunity to play games in 1080p - developers are free to make anything and everything in 900p, I just probably won't buy it. As I said before too - I'm not a hardware expert, but you may be right with regards to the "jump" not being as big and the PS4 not being a superpowered graphics machine as many expect.

"Won't be downgraded like Watch Dogs, it's a next gen game"

Lol.

Anyway, that's a load of shit. That's like forcing parity in image quality between blu-ray and DVD.

Stupid and ballsy move by Ubisoft. I'm still buying the PS4 version day one though. 900p isn't that bad, Watch Dogs and BF4 both looked great.

AC is one of my favourite franchises and I will get this game regardless. But god damn Ubisoft, fire whoever runs your PR department. This game has just been controversy after controversy and its a shame because this game is definitely the biggest leap in the series since it began and has the potential to be amazing.

In WD they did 900p because it was the best PS4 could do.
In ACU they're doing 900p because it was the best XB1 could do.

Seriously Ubi... just admit that you folks are swamped with last minute time crunch clean up with the game and don't have resources/time for further optimizations. So make things right you can just offer the additional optimizations as a post-release patch.

Translated: "Microsoft paid a shitload of money to hide the fact their console is much worse"
This is obviously a bit blunt, but this scenario seems very plausible to me, especially given MS's proclivity as of late for throwing money at developers to make the Xbone more enticing.

Cool, time to stop upgrading PC's you can still have fun at lower settings. Hope all companies lock their games at console settings, after all, you can still have fun.

Honestly, your comment has to be a joke right?

Do you know people who upgrade every day? If people upgraded from their PS360 to a PS4One for simply the resolution differences from their other consoles, they will be sorely disappointed this generation.

Shouldn't people be pissed at Ubi? They have the final call as to let anyone grease their wheels. I for one am happy MSFT is putting up a fight even if it means them throwing money any way they can. The onus is on the developer/publisher to deny or accept monies. But I am also in the camp that has a PS4, Xbone and a Wii U. So I have the luxury of choice and don't have to be butthurt about this whole thing.

How the hell did they go from targeting 1080p/60fps to 900p/30fps?!

Ubisoft just can't catch a break this gen...

They did say that, didn't they?
Welp, that makes their "set a goal and achieved it" PR line a lie.

Wait, as others have posted, wasn't this game supposed to be running at 60 fps? Interesting. I've seen some downgrade since the original videos they had put out for e3. But ANYWAYS, like my other comment this sounds like lazy programming. Their reason for not trying to push each console to it's fullest potential even if one out performs the other is "we want to avoid debates". Who cares?
