Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

I didn't read the article but man that looks like a penis.

Fancy some spotted dick?

Just putting this here.

Who cares about how the game looks, yes the PS4 version will be running at 900p and at 30fps to match that of the Xbox One. Why are people getting so angry, this is the equivalent of 2 brothers/sisters fighting over who gets the better toy. And the Mother (game developers) giving 2 equal toys to the children, and one of them (the one who wanted the better toy) throwing it out of the pram.

I'm getting this game still, and many others will as well.

I'd say it's more of the equivalent of 2 siblings participating in a foot race and the parent makes the 40% faster kid run the same speed as its sibling so that the sibling stands a better chance of having as many fans as the faster kid.

Haha wow.

Well I guess I was ready to be done with AC games anyway.

Maybe I'll get it on PC super cheap later on but I will not be paying full price for another ubi game ever again.

Yeah, it's sneaky language. "We did not lower the specs" still doesn't mean they didn't intentionally limit them. I actually sent them a follow-up before posting that in hopes of getting some clarity on whether they're claiming that the PS4 version wasn't capable of more than 900p/30fps in the first place, but I'm not expecting much more.

Yeah their response to you pretty much confirms what we are all thinking. They 100% deliberately dodged the question.

How anyone at this point can think Unity cant be 1080p on PS4 is beyond me.

The game is totally gorgeous, it's baffling how upset people get with every new thread with 900p/30fps in the title.

Most people aren't even upset with 900p 30fps. They're upset that Ubi forced parity between the PS4 and Xbox One version. Purposely limiting the full capabilities for the PS4 isn't cool.

The worst part of this is we all know the PC port will be a complete train wreck. There's just no way to escape Ubisoft bullshit.

everyone who buys ubisoft and ea's games deserves every little bit of bullshit they pull to fuck over consumers. they already capped the pc port of watch dogs a lot more to begin with. this won't be the last time they do it either (though it's likely the last they admit)

but keep giving them your money. you never had a choice after all

Errr.....you do realize that low-mid range PCs are the majority, right? And the vast majority of the sales of these games are from consoles. If the console versions didn't exist PC will "hold back" PC.

My concern is more with the console's CPU bottlenecking development already (if true), if the PS4/Xbone had a more powerful CPU, we might've seen some real leaps forward in video game AI this gen.

Honest question. If a game is the same framerate on both consoles and everything else (i.e. effects, AA, etc.) is exactly the same and the XB1 version is 900p; shouldn't it for the most part always be able to achieve 1080p on PS4 given those conditions and the power gap?

So, is Ubisoft saying that Bruno St-André was lying?

What is amazing is that Ubi would have know this would cause a backlash, and yet they 'announce' it with a casual comment that they're gimping the PS4 version to avoid debates about differences.

You'd have though this would have been handled with PR spinning from the get go, rather than having to now back track and imply that their senior developer doesn't know what he's talking about.

Unless of course that Bruno St-André fucked up, and said something he wasn't meant to. There are plenty of other examples where senior employees have said something that goes against a PR narrative and paid a price for it.

Good, at least someone contacted Ubisoft for a statement, instead of mocking their readers or do nothing about it.

Thanks Jason.
I expect more gaming journalists will be mocking this, the same way they mocked resolutiongate. Amazing how much this industry shits on the most diehard of fans.

A non-denial denial is what it is. lol

Again, the CPU-bound comment was only meant to explain why they didn't target 60fps on either console. (To overly simplify it, their AI couldn't run at 60fps on the consoles, or at least so they claim.)

Yeah I admittedly made that post while leaving work, not putting much thought behind it. On the way home I realized that them being CPU bound would limit the frame rate but shouldn't effect the resolution much. If they were bandwidth or GPU bound, they'd have a better excuse for the resolution.

These things happen too often to be mere conspiracy theories.

Polygon and Microsoft for example. When an exchange of money / services takes place, there is likely subsequent, self-imposed pressure to deliver for the client.

What proof do you have of Sony or Microsoft paying to have a game gimped?

Ubisoft's upcoming stealth-action game Assassin's Creed Unity is targeting 1080p/60fps for both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions, level designer Bruno St-André revealed in an interview with GamingBolt conducted at E3

It wouldn't be possible, in our minds we’d be cheating fans by providing a lesser version of the same game.

"We decided to lock them at the same specs to avoid all the debates and stuff

Ubisoft... please...

It's not about how the games looks but how Ubisoft's practices sucks.

Well, to be honest, it's kind of both.
If you own a PS4, why must you (1) put up with Ubi's bullshit practice and (2) play a game that doesn't look as good as it could/should/would on your platform of choice because of PARITY?

are you still clinging on to some small hope? the sands of time was more than a decade ago. ubi isn't going make an optimised pc game again. expect far cry 4 to have the same treatment.

Sony needs to take a page from Microsoft's playbook and start pressuring publishers to take full advantage of the Ps4's hardware. I think it is lame to ever put such pressure on any developer, but Sony should not bring a knife to a gun fight. They made a better machine and they shouldn't allow Microsoft to try and rob them of that advantage through bullshittery like this.

If this game is 900p on the PS4, it better have the cleanest AA possible with the remaining overhead, and a decent level of AF and overall effects, like higher quality motion blur, high res textures, greater draw distance etc. If they've limited the PS4 version to the same as the Xbox One's 900p, they need to get rid of the high level of aliasing currently visible in all the Xbox One footage of gameplay. Still annoyed it's not going to be 1080p due to intentional limitation though. Looks like exclusives are going to be the far better deal this gen.

I couldn't care less about those people, some act like their word is law or something. I barely read reviews anymore, the occasional meltdown threads are pretty fun though.

Wise words!

There certainly was a debate over Destiny.

I think with Destiny, the impact was lessened some what due to the Alpha/Beta. I played them, and was happy with the performance of the game. 1080p with a solid frame rate and pretty art. It was only much later that the Xbone version was confirmed to have parity.

With AC:U, everyone will go into it knowing that PS4 version is much worse than it should be.

I'm not a big tech spec guy myself - in fact I never really noticed any problems with 720p - but once I joined this site, I started looking for the differences between 720p and 1080p and pretty soon it became all I could see. Some ps4 owners don't care about it and probably understand the ps4 hardware much better than I do - but stubborn or not, 1080p is just something I expect now.

I get that and understand that. But the guy I quoted said that he basically is entitled to all PS4 games to be 1080p because he spent $449 CA for it.

I have both systems and a very high end PC that I use at 4k, so believe me, I wish every game on every system would be 1080p. But realistically, there are going to be some games that are not.

Personally, I think the Xbox One and to a lesser degree the PS4 are under powered systems. I think the both should of been more powerful and be able to do more than what they currently showing. The "jump" was just not that substantial as they have in the past.
