Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

While we're on the topic of Assassin's Creed, here are some bullshots Ubisoft just sent out earlier today. Put your hand up if you think it's going to look anything like this on consoles...

This whole thing is so nutty that the only thing that makes sense is a money hat happened. There is no way in hell that decision came down from brand development and marketing

Nah. I would be shocked if they took Microsoft's money. I seriously think this is all on Ubisoft. They honestly thought this would benefit them. Perhaps they want the Xbone version to sell just as well as the PS4 version and they only way to do this is if they are exactly the same technically speaking.

PS4 owners everywhere are going to be notifying their friends &/or families that have a PS4 about it, especially now that this has been blown up on social media, thanks to the #PS4NoParity hashtag.
There are plenty of other (great) games to choose from coming out between now and the end of the year. My message to everyone is that if you really have your heart set on Unity, I highly suggest buying it pre-owned only.

Well damn... and here I thought the AC series was finally getting its shit together. This is pretty disappointing to hear. It's only resolution and it probably won't affect my overall enjoyment of the game, but its a very lame decision to hold one version of the game back to "quell the debates". For giving such a BS reason, I'll have to make a decision later on whether to pick this up or not. Before this I was 100% in. Such a shame.

Why would they care where it sells? They're getting the same 70% cut from both platforms.

Ubi's bullshots never even look rendered to me. They look painted.

Ahh so what's with cpu limited red herring? Last I heard cpu has nothing to do with filtrate. If you are cpu bound due to Ai then running at 900p isn't going to help.

Yes, buy preowned! Fuck developers and their families! Yay!

I just hope you can get this IQ in PC.

Ubisoft even beats EA when it comes to shit like this. Gimping one version over the other to avoid "debates", even EA won't come down to this level. But they still have balls to release high res bullshots which of course isn't anywhere close to what we are going to see on systems. I'm pretty sure they are gonna fuck PC port as well. Fuck Ubisoft.

Modeling is actually... not so great.

It doesn't seem like the kind of thing you could keep secret for very long. Nib posted several times ITT about an indie game parity of some kind - it would be odd if mega-blockbusters with 100x more employees and very leaky ships wouldn't have word of this coming out. Maybe it will come out soon, but I'd be cautious in making judgements at this stage.

I have a feeling it wasn't explicitly demanded by MS, but was more of an implicit thing. It would be pretty embarrassing to have a marketing deal for a game yet have the worst version of it on your console, I'm sure MS wants to avoid the CoD: Ghosts fiasco from last year.

Good reminder. They just seemed so confident about hitting 1080p before.
More than anything that press release just sounds so nuts. It sounds like they are trying to head off a inevitability before it happens. If it really was because of hardware constraints thats fine but it just doesn't seem to add up that way.

You could be right though.

Microsoft needs Ubisoft more than Ubisoft needs Microsoft in this situation. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to cave on this one thing, ruffle Sony's feathers, and risk the backlash unless there's monetary incentive.

I can understand the fact that they have to limit the fps to 30 due to their "awesome AI" and such, but what I don't understand, is why that would have any effect on resolution. Resolution as i understand it mainly taxes the GPU as it gives it more or less to render depending on said resolution. The work and calculations the CPU does for AI behavior and other things would be the same at any resolution, so to me to say that the resolution has to be the same is a lie. The GPU on the PS4 is more powerful and if the XB1's GPU can render the game at 900p the PS4's should be able to do 1080p. There's no excuse.

Oddly enough I just canceled my preorder.

BUT it was just before this news came out, I didn't want Halo MCC and this on the same day. This is kinda lame, I will still get the PS4 eventually and hope they use the extra power in a patch.

How does that make sense? Those that only have a X1 or have more friends on the X1 would still be purchasing the game for that system.

Those on the fence waiting for the game would either get it on PS4 because of the increased "theoretical" performance or decide 900p is good enough and get it on X1

It doesn't result in any more copies being sold.

Nothing about this makes any logical sense. The AC series has long been closely related to Playstation platforms, that's not going away just because this year MS has a marketing deal, the install base for the PS4 is nearly double that of the Xbox One, and res differences are well documented and expected at this point. On top of all that, openly admitting it this far before launch is insane. I truly can't wrap my head around it.

Despite the PS4 being more powerful, I always had my doubts that the 3rd party's would really make use of it. I expect all ports to look pretty much identical.

They say it has been misinterpreted but they don't explain in any way what he intended to say :D
They're just denying the obvious interpretation, I guess they're probably taking more time to handle the PR debacle better.

Btw the situation is pretty simple, if the game runs the same on both XB1 and PS4 (same frame rate stability, same effects, level of detail) then it will be an obvious case of gimping of the PS4 version, locking it at the same quality settings of XB1 with a forced cap on the frame rate.
If the PS4 version, while running at the same resolution of the XB1 version ends up being better on the other fronts, interpretations might be different. XB1 could have been 720p and upgraded at the request of Microsoft even at the cost of lower performance and lowered/disabled effects just for the sake of not having headlines claiming that an other big game runs at a higher res on the PS4.
The funny thing is that in this case even Microsoft might be pissed of at them because they would not be interfering with the PS4 version at all but just making specific requests for the XB1 code.
It's too early to tell btw, let's see how things unfold :P

Funny third-parties didn't have a problem with making the 360 version of their game the better performing/looking one back when the PS3 was the harder system to develop for.

This would have been the same if it was the other way around. No need to single out 'playstation fans'.

No it wouldn't.

Everyone here saying oh, let the xbone get the inferior version, let the superior hardware have the better version, stop gimping your games because of an inferior console.

GAF was filled with outrage when the PS3 version of skyrim was widely inferior to the 360 one.

Are Xbone owners outraged by this parity?

I starting to come to the same conclusion.

Third party devs will likely aim for the lowest common denominator between the console
platforms, due to cost related factors.

I feel Cerny/Sony should have designed an absolute power house with regards to the PS4
as opposed to the marginally better console we ended up with(compared to the XB1).
