Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

I remember reading a Eurogamer article years ago in which a developer anonymously stated that Microsoft threatened rejection of any title on X360 where the same game on PS3 utilised the extra capacity of BluRay disc for additional content, etc. I was quite shocked at the time.

Not any more.

Don't remember things blowing up then like this. It should have.

No other scenario? Surely everyone in this thread should understand that there is more to graphics than those two numbers.

This thread is a massive overreaction and I really don't want to be part of this thread, but I will point out the insanely obvious and then go find another thread to read because nothing good can potentially come out of something so negative..

1. We know the frame rate and resolution.

That's it.

What about texture quality? AA quality? Lighting, physics, shadows, draw distance etcetc, we don't even know how well each platform holds its performance to know whether the frame rate is actually comparable. Destiny reached "parity" between two magical numbers, but still cans out better on PS4.

There is just too many other factors that don't seem to be discussed here. People are literally infatuated with 1080p/60fps and seen to have developed tunnel vision.

Has Ubi stated any extra effect in thr PS4 version? I've heard none. And to explain the same resolution they would have to be significant.

Lets use Mordor that came out 1 week ago. It was higher resolution, Better shadow quality, and denser foliage on PS4. If both versions are the same resolution and fps the PS4 should have some major advantages in textures, shadows, lighting, AA, etc.

This game gonna sell gangbuster regardless of what people say here.
Not if enough people are aware of the fact that Ubisoft is intentionally holding back ("gimping") the PS4 version in order to appease Xbox One owners.

Do not buy this game, because if you do, you are supporting this awful practice.

Well that's the whole deal with parity right? If the xb1 version was 720p there would be no parity anymore. Suddenly 900p would be fine.

No, even 900p would be unacceptable if I knew the developers intentionally prevented 1080p because of some crappy reason that me as a consumer shouldn't have to pay the price for. Why are you being so dense?

I am suprised no one else from Ubi have come out to massage this quote to sound less shitty. Say the ps4 version was always 900 but thanks to the SDK update and extra help from MS they could boost it to 900p as well. Some BS like that.

I assume because that statement wouldn't make any sense compared to the one about the specs being locked. You don't need to lock specs to improve an inferior version.

AI really maybe they should have looked for cloud support.

Don't underestimate the power of the cloud, son.

Sure, but here we are still stuck with parity. Some reward.

Imagine if Nintendo or Sega pulled this shit back in the Genesis/SNES days? Would SNES MK have had real fatalities and blood? Would the Genesis version lack them? And what of games like Aladdin where the SNES game was entirely different than the Genesis one?

While you have a small point in that we dont know about its gonna run in both and at what settings, you have to get through your thick head that 1080P is the base resolution on PS4. If any developer releases a game at less than that, they better have some ULTRA textures with the best of the best cloth physics, best animations, best global illumination lighting and shit pushing the system. If ACU plays and looks "slightly better" than its old gen counter part, you know they are full of shit. I will wait till DF makes their tests but I doubt ACU is pushing any of these 2 consoles.

Edit: Im a moron, there is only PS4/XB1/PC version. Ok so there is less reason why this "current gen " version is releasing at 900P on PS4. Its not launch season any more.

This. PS4 owners everywhere are going to be notifying their friends &/or families that also have a PS4 about it, especially now that this has been blown up on social media, thanks to the #PS4NoParity hashtag.

Also let me be clear here. Im not on some anti MS campaign here. The Xbox One is pretty dope and I cant wait to play some Halo.

I just find whats happening here rediculous. If MS is in no way involved good for them. Then Ubi deserves 100% of the blame.

Again, why would Ubisoft nerf the PS4 version for no reason when Assassins Creed 4 and Watch Dogs PS4 beat out PS3, X360 and XB1 SKUs? It makes zero sense for Ubi to do that without some kind of MS incentive.

No one said that, the PS4 can't handle this game in 1080p on PS4 with its weak laptop CPU is all...

Heh, this is definitely getting attention but it's not going to be that big. A lot of people couldn't care less and I'm sure the game will still sell very well on the PS4.

Forced parity? What a joke.

Thankfully I have not been as interested in Ubisoft stuff as I usually do so it further cements my decision to not buy Unity. I think Dragon Age is coming out at a similar time no? Ill take my attention there.

Very true and why I'm leaning towards believing they were involved. Hope I'm wrong.

Didn't really want to post again, but in short... yeah.

Except people's expectations are out of whack. Lose the "major" aspect. This isn't a first party game, it's not developed solely to maximize the PS4, they aren't going to add "extra" effects and things that aren't even available in the PC version just because it's PS4. Expecting anything more than what a comparable PC could output with the same exact game would come off as being entitled. The PC version is the clear baseline for this game and that is what people should use to point out the differentiation between these two consoles, not comparing them directly.

The PS4 version well likely be better, I'm not sure why people who have had an ear to any of this, would expect it to be otherwise.

That's all.

I'm so close to selling my PS4 and upgrading my PC right now. I wasn't even considering it yesterday.
If I did I'd still hold off on AC Parity until it was $5, though.

Ok, this is bs. I don't know if its because of MS, probably is probably not, but this is no way to handle this situation. What would PC gamers say if this would apply in that version of the game as well?

I just canceled my preorder.

I agree it is still going to sell well but we really need to stop underestimating social media after the whole beginning to the Xbox One.

"We wanted to avoid debates about facts, like the fact that one console is more capable than the other, so we made a decision that just makes us look bad instead!"

Never stop being stupid Ubisoft, I think it's hilarious.

If you are tired of these sorts of things affecting multiplatform titles, yeah, go for it. Fair warning that PC ports can be crap from time to time, and Ubisoft is one of the biggest offenders. It makes attributing this uhh 'situation' to technical incompetence believable.

Is the Streisand effect not taught in Marketing 101 these days?

If the Bone was 720p and PS4 was 900p than at least they are using that extra juice for something. While I would be pissed its not 1080p, logic would tell me that the game would look pretty dope if its pushing the system to that res. This just screams of outside intervention.

It's not really acceptable on NeoGAF. I would refrain from using it.
I laugh at anyone who gets upset at that. Tells you their allegiance right away. Is Soony banned too?

So a game like Mordor with a infinitly smaller team and budget is 100% capable of releasing a game on PS4 that is higher resolution, with better shadows, and with more foliage. But Ubi can not only not hit 1080p but they can provide no in game graphical differences to justify a parity resolution.

Then wtf is going on in Ubis dev teams.

Thankfully when bullshit like this happens I have the choice to go from PS4 to PC.

No doubt the PC version will run like turd though.

This whole thing is so nutty that the only thing that makes sense is a money hat happened. There is no way in hell that decision came down from brand development and marketing

Regardless of what bullshit Ubi comes up with to explain the resolution, if the game is the same of both platforms graphics wise, then we do indeed know that it is "parity" and not developing from the ground up on each system.

Personally I think Ubi is gimping the PS4 version, cause that's like my opinion man.

I know. I have an ok PC right now. I've seen my share of stupid shit. My favorites so far were the games that were capped at 24fps if I enabled v-sync. I was able to fix most of them with registry editing, but not all. Super Street Fighter IV AE at locked 24fps was just about the most disgusting thing I've ever seen. (it was one of the fixable ones, though)

This entire fiasco seems unwarranted. People need to relax. Glad you guys are canceling your pre orders though just wait for reviews and make a decision then.

Also that HipHop Gamer video was dumb.

It's not clear if it has been held back, at least not until we have final confirmation that there are literally no differences between versions. Even then, it may simply be the case that the XBO version ended up performing better than anticipated, something which didn't occur until very late in development and Ubi is not willing to push the PS4 because it's so close to going gold now. I'm expecting better effects in some way on PS4, and / or a more consistent frame-rate. Dropping the resolution has been the most common way of adjusting for the power differential thus far, but it is not the only way it can be done.

As always, wait for the DF, and don't preorder if you're worried - wait until we know for sure how it turns out.

It doesn't seem like the kind of thing you could keep secret for very long. Nib posted several times ITT about an indie game parity of some kind - it would be odd if mega-blockbusters with 100x more employees and very leaky ships wouldn't have word of this coming out. Maybe it will come out soon, but I'd be cautious in making judgements at this stage.

Wait...They want to build an engine from the "ground up" that can only run 900/30 for the next 5-6 yrs?
I can't even believe they mentioned PC and optimization in their statement, smh.

LOL...Ubisoft, you can't even do PR correctly.

This is Ubisoft we're talking about, in a year or two they'll be releasing games that are 720p30fps.
