Assassin's Creed "Parity": Unity is 900p/30fps on both PS4 & Xbox One

Personally I care more that AC Unity ends up to be a great game than the resolution that the game runs on…

900p if they are hardware upscaled to 1080p it is very difficult to tell the difference anyway…

Does anyone remember that the same game engine in Watch Dogs gave us 900p 30fps on PS4 and 792p 30fps on Xbox One;

No. Multiple benchmarks and one of Gaf's own resident insiders/developers already confirmed that the PS4 has more CPU power available to games. But what exactly that means is unknown as far as I know. We don't know if that means there's an extra core available to devs on PS4 or if the clock speed is higher.

Do you have any links of those benchmarks? I'm discussing this theme with some friends and it would come as really useful to have that info.

Thanks in advance :D

Preorder Doubled!

Actually I don't care about this one bit. As long as the game PLAYS well, It means nothing. I have both systems and I have it preordered for PS4. This doesn't change a thing for me. When it changes the way it plays, then we can talk.

I wonder....

Sony, as a publisher, actually has a lot of pull in this.

They could play hardball, and if they feel Ubisoft is lying could threaten to pull the game.

to be honest i don't think that sony even cares, let alone pull the game from their system. its fucking ridiculous how overblown this thing have become. while it was justified in the first 20-40 pages its just hate now and hyperbole.

Why do they do this? It just makes them seem more like shills.

"LOL everyone lets all go laugh at our readers who are the reason I get a paycheck!"

I don't think writers should just have to accept comments of course, but it is ridiculous how they are basically PR for the industry. It is quite clear gamers care about this shit ON YOUR OWN website, so maybe don't insult them?

Not happening, Creed is too big of a seller to skip it. Even with the parity, the PS4 version will probably end up selling more anyway, even just based on the fact that the PS4 has a bigger install base.

I've no real interest in graphics or performance either way. But Ubisoft are a business, it's in their interest to treat both consoles equally.

That being said, I wouldn't be suprised if this is part of a marketing deal between MS and Ubi.

How is it in their interest to say "fuck you" to owners of the platform with DOUBLE the install base of the weaker platform? How is it good business to gimp the visuals of your game in order to lick the nuts of their publishing partner when just about every other game is actually taking advantage of the hardware provided.

They're essentially saying that the majority of their target audience is stupid and/or blind and won't care that they're receiving a lesser experience just because Microsoft didn't ship with better hardware. As you can clearly see that's not working out too well for them.

They were from earlier in the year but I'll see what I can find. :)

EDIT: Here's the thread. See Matt's note at the bottom (he's a dev)

Isn't there "parity" between PS4 and XboxOne on Destiny? Why isn't there any controversy there?

Presumably because it runs at 1080P on both, and Bungie were upfront about targetting that (and needing to put in extra work to get it up to that standard on Xbone). It seems like upping the res is a little "easier" and less intensive than a change from 30fps to 60fps.

But you know... they could also add better effects, better AA etc with the extra juice.

I'm rewarding a team for making a game that will be fun. That's all I give a shit about really. I'd be more pissed if ACU wasn't fun, than what fuckin resolution it runs at.

And I'll be getting it for PS4 for the record.

Out of all games, you have problem with people buying pre-owned copies of Assassins Creed? Top 5 selling games and Ubisoft's highest selling IP, the franchise that makes at least half a billion dollars every year? What?

Also, if you don;t really care about resolution or graphics, why are you in this thread again?

Right on que.

Ign doing damage control as well, jesus.

Intentional parody or just a slip of the tongue?

AC Unity will be one of the best selling games of the year, if not the best. Sony won't do jack shit.

By trying to "avoid all the debates and stuff" regarding resolution and framerate, I'm pretty sure they've upped the ante on those debates and stuff.

Isn't there "parity" between PS4 and XboxOne on Destiny? Why isn't there any controversy there?

If both games are 1080p and 30 FPS there really isn't any controversy. Not even close to what is happening here. The dev specifically stated they could make use of the extra power in the ps4 and chose not to do so. Fucking grade a bullshit.

How about 480p and locked 30FPS? I'm sure it plays well and you won't have a problem with it, right?

Why would they though? The PS4 isn't going to stop selling and all of these people saying they aren't going to buy the game now because of this is likely minuscule when all is said and done. Sony will just continue to lead by example, showing the hardware off on its exclusives. I also have to question why people are bringing up last years Assassins Creed, obviously this game is going to be more demanding on the hardware so it could be likely this game would never have been 1080p and 60fps on the PS4 in the end even if it was exclusive. Most likely 1080p and 30fps.

Sony doesn't want to meddle in relationships with third party publishers. I doubt they will even make an official comment on this.

Unity has way more problems than its framerate.

  • The press given B roll today is filled with slowdown and pop in. And this is at 30FPS
  • Every piece of media with gameplay shown has also had these problems
  • The AI looks dumb in almost every stealth scenario. It doesn't look good

This game needs a god damn delay. Its not polished at all. And what annoys me is that no one raised these problems.

People freak out because its 900p and 30 FPS.

Get your priorities straight. And honestly when I see the amount of Fuck ubisoft on GAF on a daily basis thats not this thread, I am surprised this many people actually pre ordered unity.

Does anyone remember that the same game engine in Watch Dogs gave us 900p 30fps on PS4 and 792p 30fps on Xbox One;

No, I don't remember that. Watch_Dogs was on Disrupt and AC: Parity is on AnvilNext.

I have a problem with the notion of, if you REALLY want to play ACU, buy it preowned! If you don't want to support ACU, don't buy it. Erase AC from your life, that will do more harm than buying it preowned. As to your second question, I was answering that one dudes question as to why I would want to support forced parity.

This is true. I believe WD is the only PS4 game to run at 900p and 30fps, an embarrassing distinction.

So that makes this AC: Unity news a lot less surprising. Also WD had an exclusive marketing agreement with Sony, and the game sold big regardless of the lower resolution. In case anyone thinks a boycott of Unity is going to send a message to Ubisoft.

He's been flippant towards posters genuinely pissed about this ordeal throughout most of the thread. It's beyond irritating.

96 pages Damn Ubi you done fucked up

What this will mean for all AC games from this point on? No more 1080p console games?

Broken PC ports?

Ubisoft want AC to grow the install base for current gen consoles. So they want to sell both PS4s and X1s. If one version is way better then the other, then that's not going to be the case.

Are you seriously saying that because they both cost the same amount that they should be technically identical because people who bought the less powerful console might catch feelings?

seems a lot of people here already caught "feelings" because we have almost hit 100 pages of people feeling betrayed, enraged, etc.

)

It isn't in their best interest, at all. But some suit, either at MS or Ubi, decided this was a good idea. Parity or disparity was never going to make a big difference in sales. Now all they've managed to do is look incredibly stupid online and piss off core gamers.

AC Unity will be one of the best selling games of the year, if not the best. Sony won't do jack shit.

I'd say Ubisoft needs it on the PS4 just as much as Sony needs it on the PS4.

Ubisoft's entire company line relies on this and a handful of titles.

And it wouldn't be the first time a company played hardball with Sony.

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2007/...-band-support-for-guitar-hero-iii-controller/

Activision, right after the PS3 launched, threatened to pull PS3 support if they put out the Rock Band patch to support the guitars. A few months later, Sony let the patch through.

Why would they though? The PS4 isn't going to stop selling and all of these people saying they aren't going to buy the game now because of this is likely minuscule when all is said and done. Every publisher wants their games running the best that they can on their consoles. If they feel there's sabotage afoot, they will do something.

Yes, buy preowned! Fuck developers and their families! Yay!

That is such a cheap thing to say, now I can't choose to not buy a product because little devoper have to feed poor little Timmy and the rest of his/her family, get over yourself. Welcome to capitalism if you make a product that dosn't sell
(and lets be honest AC will sell)
make something else, hey why don't they start with something that dosn't seem to piss on half your potential customer base, that might work.

I don't understand. Doesn't buying the game pre-owned still have the same impact financially on Ubisoft as if you never bought the game at all? Or are you talking about in terms of publicity?

Why do they do this? It just makes them seem more like shills.

These twitter campaigns have mined their power to push narratives. Remember last year? Everytime gamers push stuff on twitter that doesn't flow from them their usefulness as PR mouthpieces diminishes and so does the marketing money that's diverted towards them.

It's in their best interests to belittle their readers.

Im under no delusions and i know sony wont do jack, specially something as crazy as stopping Ubi from publishing the game on PS4.. but if they did, with this being a new gen only title (and pc), and with PS4 having a bigger install base, if sony did actually do the crazy, it would certainly hurt Ubi.

Maybe I should start to log when IGN flat-out shills for Microsoft. Then I can dump a list on people that don't believe me that they do it constantly.

The thing I don't get is why Ubisoft even cares about pleasing Microsoft. They are no longer the market leaders, Sony is. So why piss off the market leader? That's horrible business practices. I will not buy AC Unity and probably Ubisoft games in the near future.

Remember that your money(of lack thereof) speaks louder than words. Cancel your pre-orders and don't buy the game. If you really want to play it, buy it pre-owned.

Haha just read about this, If we see AC Unity marketed as an xbox game only or if they don't change the resolution after such a shitstorm, then it'll be safe to asume MS made a shady parity agreement.

I'd laugh about this as I'll get it on PC but who am I kidding, the port will be worse than the consoles.

How about 480p and locked 30FPS? I'm sure it plays well and you won't have a problem with it, right?

Actually, it wouldn't bother me. I'm 40 years old, I played games at much lower resolutions. The gameplay is usually designed to take advantage of the current technology. The resolution of a rock or leaf is not going to affect the gameplay at all. We're not talking about 480p though. We are talking about 900p upscaled to 1080p. This example doesn't bother me.

I understand the hate, but I'm not going to let it affect the enjoyment I am going to have with the game.

Not quite. Buying used influences the used value of the game, which influences sales of new copies.

Eh... I'll be 39 soon, but my expectations have changed over time and I still have better than 20/20 vision.

It's not the same engine and WD didn't had parity. It was lower res on X1 and the game also had a more simple AO solution.

They were from earlier in the year but I'll see what I can find. :)

Oh you are a treasure, aren't you! Thank you so so much :D

Honestly this is ridiculous.

I don't whine because my GTX 660 won't make a game look as good as someone's GTX 780 or whatever. I accept it and enjoy whatever I'm playing on whatever setting I have to settle for.

I'm not sure who's more to blame: Ubi, or gamers for making such a big deal out of the fact that, yes, one console may do better at maintaining 1080p resolutions. Get over it. If it bothers you that much you need to find some new perspective on things.
