Looks like Driveclub PS+ Edition might not be coming today

Guys the Driveclub servers are down and being hammered. They're probably just holding off unleashing all the free users until they can stabilize it.

I think they pulled the driveclub app for the same reason. Was on Android last night but now it's a dead link.

Just one or two reviews? Nope.

Metacritic? Ya. I'm guilty. If 2-5 people say it sucks...ehhhh...

If 15-30 people give it a score like a 7...then Hey. It's probably a 7.

As much as I love the PS4, it seems to be a long wait for something truly special to arrive. The best games of this year are shaping up to be TLoU and GTA V. For next year I can already feel The Order is not going to set the world on fire too.

More like we can already see coming that even if it's good some reviewers will no doubt dock points for it not doing anything "revolutionary" and then give another game 10s for doing the same, even if it's good and does what it aims to in really polished fashion.

Though admittedly, The Order looks awesome in my opinion.

Edit: Plus it's not even the only great looking game or exclusive coming very early next year.

This is shaping up to be another train wreck of a release. Already decided not to buy the retail. I am gambling on the Plus release, and hope it'll come tomorrow in EU. If not, then fuck this game.

You're forgetting Bloodborne comes out next year.

Basically, while the social stuff is interesting gives you a pretty fun reason to keep playing it, the actual racing is in this really strange middle ground between arcade style and simulation, wobbling between each extreme but never committing to one, making a lot of the challenges seem really strange as there's no way to really hone your vehicle to improve your skills with things like drifting or top speed. So you have this sort of really super grippy racing game that doesn't bother punishing you for driving poorly and doesn't really reward you for driving well and often gives you challenges that are counterproductive to your current task at hand.

It's an interesting take and it pulled me all the way out of a day 1 purchase. But I will try the PS+ demo when it goes up on Thursday.

Because we're looking at Thursday now.

And Giant Bomb is probably the best place to get a first impression, positive or negative.
That sounds like PGR, and PGR4 was the best racing game last gen.

Before you edited in that last line I was going to say this post sounds like it came fresh off of the GiantBomb quick look.

Jeff is known for thinking Sony 1st party games are mediocre, he is the last person I'd listen to on these kinds of games.

I purchased my PS4 to play Driveclub at launch nearly a year ago.

Looks like I now wait until Friday, good job we all have other games to play.

And if 15+ people gave it a score of 8 or above, that must mean it's an 8 or above, right?

C'mon Sony...I know you want people to buy the game but this is what you get for announcing this to be free before it launched.

Sony keeps dropping balls left and right.

Timely releases? What?
Regular dashboard updates w/ advertised and new features? Huh?
Well-received games? Not unless they're ports of PS3 titles.
Advertising remote play via Wi-Fi on the Vita? What's that?

The only thing they got right was the one thing they had Cerny on... developing some really amazing hardware. Well, that and their continued indie support... but that's largely due to Microsoft being incompetent on that front until recently.

Hopefully PS Now doesn't land with a thud.

+1,

this looks like the beginning of the end for Sony, and more than likely Japan too.

connection errors in the vita store also , can't find any of the plus games nor does Qing them to download from the webstore makes them download to my vita

Did they ever even announce a date for the PS+ Edition? I asked in the OT last week and my post was ignored... it's like everyone just assumed it was going to be the same date as the full game's launch date.

Really want to try this game out, so it's a little disappointing if this gets delayed at all. Granted, I don't have a PS4 yet, but I'm hoping to get one shortly and really want to try this out before I decide to purchase it!
I listened for two months. I don't care about reviews from anyone. Gaming has moved past it.

Bitter? Truthful.

Clearly not, since reviews are still some of the most popular articles on gaming sites and review threads are very popular even on NeoGAF. People listening to personalities that have similar interests and opinions to themselves is neither bizarre, nor cult like.

You having moved past reviews or impressions from people is perfectly acceptable and truthful for yourself, especially if you found that those people often have different opinions and interests than yours, but not so truthful for all of "gaming" (whatever that even means, lol).

I find that when Jeff is in review mode, has been playing a game pretty much non stop for a week and is critically thinking about how the elements within actually matter opposed to being flash, he's 100% spot on.

It's when he needs to go back and think about stuff from 25 years ago where his opinion becomes almost more personality based. I mean this is the guy who thinks Yoshi's Island is a terrible game in 30 year old hindsight.

read this very thread. there's links. they said it's coming today. i'll reserve judgement until later tonight.

After watching it, it looks pretty with nothing to it.

Pack it up, it's pretty but it's got nothing to it. I know, it must be weird how a racing game looks like you're racing while looking pretty when all you're doing is watching a pretty racing game in video.

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2014/10/01/preview-octobers-free-game-lineup/

"All of these games will be free for Plus members starting October 7th. Watch the video below to see these titles in action."

I'm guessing it's another instance of GCT.

Yeah, her and her team/whoever else is responsible for inconsistent timing, store lateness or sometimes slow partial rollouts of store content on release day, that often get complained about, is the one thing I don't understand how it was allowed to continue in the gen changeover.

Careful now, with that logic Grid:Autosport is an amazing game.

It is not. It's certainly pretty though.

it was stated clear as day last week on the PS blog PSPlus post that the driveclub ps+ edition was coming as a bonus TODAY

And the europe blog says something different.

::SHRUG:: I don't know man. It's flipping a switch on a server. You tell me. All I know is that it won't be live before I go to the bar tonight, so I don't care.

I've seen a lot of people say this - haven't seen the quick look yet. What about it caused everyone to be skeptical?

I played the game for a couple of hours last night and had a blast.

Jeff being his usual cynical self...but he raises valid concerns regarding the driving model. It doesnt matter how many videos, gifs, webms etc you watch....you can never get a sense of how it drives. Jeff has played alot of racing games, so most trust him when he says it sucks (more or less)

It looks like Horizon 2 is still the best nextgen racing game so far

Also...Dan didn't know what a hatchback was :)

But seriously, though, guys, this is just GCT in action. This isn't even the only IGC game that isn't up yet (Rainbow Moon isn't up either, last I checked.)

Wouldn't know, never played (or even read reviews for it lol) it so I couldn't go as far as to say it's got nothing to it.

And Giant Bomb is probably the best place to get a first impression, positive or negative.

I love Giant Bomb. I love their final reviews, their personalities, and the content they create, but I really never trust them with first impressions on games. I'm halfway through the Driveclub QL and there is a lot of information Jeff is just completely unaware of. That includes but is not limited to how weather will be added in after release or what the PS+ version will include. Those seem like basic things that he should probably know. People that only go to GB for their impressions are left uninformed as a result.

And if 15+ people gave it a score of 8 or above, that must mean it's an 8 or above, right?

Metacritic average? Ya. I try to only part with my bucks (wife and kid and all) when I truly feel 100% justify to spend 60 bucks on a game I may only play a few weeks (if it's not for me)

Unlike a kid, that even if it sucks, they have nothing else really to play, and lord knows when Mom and Dad will buy them their next game, so they play the shit out of it anyway.

When I checked an hour ago, it was a 74 I think. Even Alien Isolation was higher.

but Say the new Lotr game was an 85, so if I'm looking at buying two games (3 if you count FF 13 for pc)..which do you think is going to get my money if I'm equally interested? the LOTR 85 or the Driveclub 74? -- I already have a bazillion racing games. On handheld, console, and PC, for me to pay for Driveclub means it has to be amazing.

For being a game where hands-on is the most likely way to draw in new audiences, having an unannounced delay on the PS+ version is a rough way to launch. Particularly in a situation where the review embargo was seen with good-will because everyone would be able to play it without paying out-of-pocket at the same time it was up for sale.

I had expected this would be available by the time I got back from work. That's a mild annoyance for me :S

this seems to be a universal character trait of video game journalists. it's amazing some of the information they are unaware of that is just a click away. i recall a couple of IGN guys thinking that the PSTV was a device that hooks up to your TV but requires the vita to be used as a controller. The thing has been out for nearly a year in japan. you're a video game journalist discussing this piece of hardware on a video game podcast that hundreds of thousands of people are listening to, and you don't even bother to know what the thing is before discussing it? it's baffling
