Is Ufouria: THE SAGA any good and secondly are we European going to be stuck with the 50Hz version?

Armillo developers believe they underpriced their game. They think it was a mistake to price game at $8, and it should have been priced higher.

Would anyone here still buy Armillo if it had received a much higher price than $8?

Nope, £12 is the limit I go for Indies games unless I am 100% sure that I will replay it again.

Now I got Theme A stuck in my head again, thanks.

Mario and Yoshi was my first Game Boy game that I have ever played, long before Pokémon entered my life so I was surprised when I found out that Game Freak devloped the game and that Junichi Masuda did the music.

Which always explained why one of the theme felt very similar to the Pokémon music.

Just got review code for Bayonetta 1/2 & is currently downloading. Is there any specific section of the first game people would like to see footage of? I'll capture some stuff from each game, but I thought I'd ask about the first game since there should be plenty of awesome to share with Bayonetta 2 footage.

Yes, it's good. It's kinda similar to Metroid. Big world with areas that open further as you get more characters with different abilities (you can switch characters with a button press if I remember correctly). Well designed and fun, but with one or two obtuse puzzles that might take some trial and error. Charming visuals and excellent music.

Giving something away for free is still a form of advertising. Witness all the junk mail that turns up in one's postbox unless one goes through the process of "opting out" of it.

The level editor for the Wii U was one of the main reasons I had gotten the game. And, they did fail to deliver on that.

Except they gave you a steam key for the game. Which they didn't need to. I'm trying hard not to use the E-word here.

It was one of my first GB games. It's super simplistic but I have a soft spot for it. And yeah, that Theme A is one of the catchiest tunes on the GB (and NES, of course) that nobody knows about.

Sure, they didn't need to do that. But, giving away a copy of the game on a platform that I didn't want it for doesn't do anything for not delivering on features on the platform that I did want it for. Doing something that they didn't need to do doesn't change what they failed to do.

And, giving that copy to people who bought it on Wii U and continuing development on the Steam version and not the Wii U version is basically getting people to migrate away from the Wii U version and onto the Steam version. So, again, a perfectly legitimate reason not to recommend the Wii U version.

Also, I have no idea what "E-word" you're talking about.

They weren't advertising, they gave away free Steam copies to compensate and were on the verge of shuttering when they had to cancel the level editor, the game is complete enough as-is without it. Personally, the game was so well-designed I doubt most people would even give a shit.

You should direct your anger at shitty indies that fail to deliver on a game at all. Like the people making Rex Rocket.

What's wrong with Rex Rocket? I got a review copy on Steam but didn't get too far into it yet, but was considering it (I'm horribly slow and it hasn't been a good couple of months for reviewing). Nothing seemed too wrong, though the graphics are debatable I suppose. Broken promises? I had never heard of it honestly.

Next week's Japan releases
Wii U:
Ballpoint Universe: Infinite - ¥500
Contra (MSX)
Street Fighter 2010 (Famicom)
Dig Dug (Famicom)
Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi's Island (GBA)

No 3DS releases interestingly enough

Indefinitely delayed the Wii U port. It was because the tools they used to make the game were supposed to be coming to the Wii U but over a year has passed with no sign of it coming.

From what I saw of your conversation, I'm guessing he's going for "entitled." Your mistake was buying a game for what it might be in the future instead of what it was at the time. In the future, only buy games for what they are and not what you hope they are. Sometimes developers aren't able to accomplish everything they want in a game. Promises are "broken" all the time. On the most basic level, most developers will tell you their games are awesome yet some games are actually crappy.

I can't tell you any specific part since I haven't been able to play Bayonetta, but I just wanted to tell you that it's great to see someone know what they're doing when capturing video from Wii U and actually playing decently for a change too. Your Hyrule Warriors videos were cool.

They could have also just kept silent about it, but the thing is that they apologized. They genuinely thought they could do the level creator, but they ran into heavy financial troubles and also heavy technical problems.

Should they have promised the level editor? Obviously no, but mistakes happen unfortunately and when they do happen, you apologize and do your best to handle the situation, and then you learn from your mistake. Two Tribes made a mistake but they took full responsibility. A lot of other developers would've just stayed silent about it. For example Frozenbyte that marketed that special content for the Wii U version of Trine 2, but then after the game launched they just stayed silent about it until someone asked about it in an interview (and they didn't apologize or anything, because they didn't consider it as a promise, it was just marketing a thing that never came into reality then after all).

The Steam key solution obviously wasn't perfect, but it was a nice little gesture at least for those could benefit from it. They didn't have to do it, but it was something they could at least do as they couldn't make the level editor come true. The intention wasn't to get people to Steam, but the intention really was to do at least something nice. Wouldn't make much sense to have an intention to get people to use Steam when they were bringing all of their games to Wii U and still are.

I know it's really shitty when companies betray their promises, but when they really take responsibility themselves (instead of the general public or journalists pushing them to do it, or worse still, not take it at all) and apologize from their hearts, you forgive. If they do it again, then sure go on rage mode.

Oh yeah the 3DS firmware update that brings themes (but not to Japan) also made the eShop faster. It does this by compressing the hell out of all the images and making screenshots 2D only.

They also changed the game pages layout so the game description is right on screen when you click a game.

Just like on Wii, they're releasing the crappy MSX version of Contra instead of the Famicom/NES version. :\

Seriously, what is the hold up about putting NES Contra on any of Nintendo's VC services? It is such an obvious oversight, and I can't think of any obstacles there could be in having the game available.

I don't think the eShop is any faster, it's just that the new game info page layout concentrates everything (videos, screenshots, description, information, ratings, related games, etc) on a single page so you don't need to keep jumping around different screens, each one with their own loading.

Fair enough, I suppose. I guess my main issue was with them advertising the Steam version all over the Wii U, which came across as "You're not getting this here, so come over to there now." And so, while broken promises happen, given their focus on Steam over Wii U (and the way it took place), just makes it very difficult for me to recommend anything from them on Wii U.

My guess is because the Famicom version uses the VRC2 chip, and I don't think any game that has that chip got a VC release, so they probably didn't write it into the emulator. But that shouldn't hold the NES version of the game, which of course doesn't use it.
Or they could have at least released the arcade version on Wii, that's still way better than the MSX version.

it definitely is faster. icons don't have to load anymore to allow you to press the home button to close it.

As I've only ever visited the eShop to buy a game I was already aware of, I'm okay with this.

...I didn't even know the screenshots were 3D

Oh, lame, this stuff happens though--Road Not Taken might never make it to Vita because the middleware maker they depended on evaporated. Tools suck.

Thanks for the kind words. I'll capture some various areas with the Nintendo costumes equipped, I suppose. I'll try to do some action-heavy areas.

Silly question, but is there any quick/easy way (preferably online, although on the systems would be alright I suppose) to view a list of the Virtual Console games in order of release?

There is on the WiiU I believe, but I haven't been able to figure a good way out on the 3DS.
And, would be easier to just have a list on the computer/online, but I haven't been able to find any.

I wouldn't mind Bayonetta meeting Cereza or any scene that had tremendous screen tearing before.

NintendoLife has a pretty good ordering system. Here's everything on 3DS eShop. Couldn't figure out how to exclude 3DSWare, though.

Circle of the Moon tomorrow. Pretty hyped.

Anyone else gonna be playing it for the first time? I've played pretty much the entire series POST Circle, so it'll be interesting.

Damn, so tempting. Ufouria is supposedly a good game and it costs around 80-90€ used on NES here.
Guacamelee is also said to be great, but that price is still pretty steep.
UnEpic has been on my wanted list, but again even with that price, I'm not sure.
Maybe, maybe...

Guacamelee is GREAT and that price is a STEAL believe me. Without a doubt one of the best games on the service. Out of those three I wouldn't have a doubt which one to go for first.
If you happen to like metroidvanias you won't regret it, looks fantastic, good challenge, humorous and controls sooo smooth... it really deserves all the praise it gets.

I'll post them here because hardly anybody seems to care about them elsewhere

new RIVE trailer (L~A made a thread but nobody cared) https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=3tmDyoJGRag (Wii U, also on other platforms)

new AFFORDABLE SPACE ADVENTURES screens & info (Wii U exclusive)

the game now has 3-player co-op! before it was just two. operate the same ship with three people locally sounds amazing!

why on earth would a twin stick game have pointer controls?

So that it doesn't control like shit?

Consider the case of PixelJunk Shooter on PC. Played the first mission with a controller, and it played like absolute garbage. Switched over to mouse controls, and it immediately became a solid game.

why on earth would a twin stick game have pointer controls?

Because it works really really well.

Not sure where else to ask this but i have $10 on my account and ive been looking at the mii plaza games.

If you could only choose 2 mii plaza games, what 2 would you choose?

Definitely Monster Manor, and if you like shooters, Mii Force would be a distant second. Warrior's Way is fun and possibly my favourite of the four but there isn't a ton of gameplay there.
