I don't like the music at all but it's just fancy sound effects. It's not THAT wierd.

It's not anime dad! it's a highly sofisticated computer program called vocaloid featuring a woman with realistic proportions doing totally real things that a baka gaijin like you wouldn't understand.

Dad watches hatsune miku youtube video...

Dad stares*

lol, creepy?

Far from creepy, just different (not a bad thing at all)

Creepy is when you hear multiple quick raps on your basement door, and you open said door to find nothing on the other said.

Creepy is when you find a blooded knife on the ground on your way home from work.

I'd expect something like this from Fallon but...eh...didn't Letterman have Girls Generation on a while ago?

Maturity, bitches.
Guess Windows is now an anime rather than an operating system.

I know they aren't creepy, i mean i would kind of understand if we were talking about Kaai Yuki but Miku?

Redonculous.

...what?

How is this at all a good idea for Letterman? I know some young people, like myself, watch some late-night tall shows, but this is not Letterman's audience. Letterman's audience is much older than say, Fallon, Kimmel, or Ferguson. It would still be really weird for them as well.

I might watch, just to see what happens... But my god this is bizarre.

I can't tell if you guys are being cheeky or willfully obtuse. She's drawn, animated, and programmed in an anime style.

What you mean is "Japanese art" style. Anime is a specific term used to reference a medium of entertainment, in this case specifically cartoons from Japan when used in English-langauge uses. Just like "manga" are comic books from Japan, or "manhwa" are comics from Korea.

There is nothing wrong with referring to her as an anime character, unless you feel like explaining what a vocaloid is to everyone who asks what it is you're watching.

She's not an anime character. Her origins aren't from anime. She wasn't made to be a character in an anime. There is, to my knowledge, no official anime of her or the other vocaloids at this point. Yes, fans and artists have done artwork of her, or made animated videos to go with some of her songs—that doesn't make her anime.

My head is seriously going to explode from this thread.

The videogame representation of the character is done in an anime style. There is nothing wrong with referring to her as an anime character, unless you feel like explaining what a vocaloid is to everyone who asks what it is you're watching.

I don't understand how it's been programmed to be anime but then i guess Windows is anime too since there's a theme where the impersonation of the OS talks.
Yeah she's animated too by the way. And that's all official stuff from Microsoft not like Miku which is fan-based.

I swear i understand perfectly why people classify everything that is japanese as "anime" since they really don't know what they are talking about and i'm cool with people be that way if they have no interest in what it is talking about, but i fucking hate when those people are so stupidly stubborn to not accept a correction and not have the decency to say that they are wrong.

hahaha what is with you guys claiming miku isn't anime styled. She is definitely designed like an anime character.

If somebody draws something in a style that looks like jack kirby, it would be pretty acceptable to say that it was "comic book looking" or whatever. Because we are people, not robots, and we don't shit our pants over incredibly minor semantics.

Genuinely surprised there's a lot of people here who have never even remotely heard of Miku. I figured she's such an icon, it was impossible to NOT see something about her.

I think Luka would have been a better fit for the audience.

Rather, I think most of the Vocaloids sound better than Miku. The music sounds too fake; I've loved a lot of the Nico Chorus versions of songs much more.

I'd say I'm a Vocaloid fan (mostly IA), but honestly the utattemita/covers sound way better than the original songs. I just love how great the Vocaloid community is. The fact that it is 100% built around collaborations of fans and young artists who are just beginning is just amazing.

Some posts in this thread are... off, but I guess it is hard to explain the concept.

It'll just be your standard "lol wtf Japan pls" for most people watching. Though I would expect this from Kimmel or Conan, not Letterman.
