Would you be willing to play a game where you are a legit serial killer?

Not "I already am a serial killer in Uncharted huehuehue". Like, an actual, murderous, stalkery serial murderer.

Manhunt 1 and 2 walked very, very closely to this line (probably crossed it at times). But it's Halloween time, and after reading true crime horror stories and stuff about the Oculus Rift VR system, it makes me wonder if people would be willing to play games where the protagonist is a serial killer.
 
as a kid i loved to play games where you can shoot off shit all over the place. as i get older i love games which have nothing to do with the reality.

on the other hand, i think games have to cross the line and these games (manhunt and all generic fps) also have to exist.
 
Probably not. Already saw "Maniac" with Elijah Wood and that was uncomfortable enough with it being entirely POV. Don't think I have the stomach to play a serial killer game. I get queasy at renegade choices in Mass Effect so I doubt I could handle this.
 
Have you played Hitman? It sounds like what you're looking for, a killer for hire that does whatever to take down the target.
 
I dunno, I don't think I could kill innocent people in a game with a serious tone to it.

Hell, I can't even make the "renegade" decisions in Mass Effect without losing sleep -_-'

It won't fly in politics.
A game like that would draw way too much controversy. It would be a pr nightmare. So we'd have to look to indies for something like that. And we have something like that already with a kickass soundtrack. But it's isometric and overly violent. A puzzle game disguised as a violent killing machine. It's fantastic. But then it's spun into you're a good guy.

Hitman is close but there's a point to do it. You're killing baddies.

I would love a sk game. But unless you go all out with violence and disgust without toning it down it won't work. It wouldn't market. It would become niche. And it would review badly closing down any studio that took part in it.
 
Meh, I could just play any Grand Theft Auto game and go on a killing spree without a care in the world.
I'm sure the cops would like that.
But If there's a legit game like manhunt where a story around it would work then sure.

But thats what UC and TR etc are. You are straight up stalking and murdering people Zodiac style. Maybe not for gratification (or who knows maybe it is that) but still.
 
That's really a strange question when the majority of the games make you kill hundreds of people. Of course I would, otherwise I couldn't play GTA or Uncharted either.

I read the OP, but for me it's just the same thing, you kill people or you don't. Technically, you're a serial killer in Uncharted or GTA too.
 
I read a lot about serial killers but I am not sure I would be interested in a game as one. The fascinating aspect of serial killers is how they can be so coldly calculating and obsessed with their methodologies and victims. The callous disregard for the life of another human being combined with the workmanlike nature is unsettling to say the least. I don't have a lot of interest stepping into those shoes, even virtually.
 
Hitman/manhunt come to mind.

I've never really had an interest in those games. They seem fun to a degree, but something about it unsettles me.

I do like games such as Splinter Cell, where you have more of a purpose than just going around killing people for money. Payday is fine with me as well.

Though you can sort of 'RP' a serial killer in Fallout games, I still think that's very different than a game where the premise is all about being a serial killer.
 
am i killing people in their homes or in dark back alleys?
maybe, if i get to use some cool weapons on them. sure.

lol. I hate when people pretend like you aren't killing in UC/TR because someone's trying to kill you first. Especially Tomb Raider. Stop trying to make me feel sorry for those guys--they were literally the worst sort of people.

That's not serial killing though. That's just mass murder.
 
So, I was playing Oblivion.

And I was role-playing as the good guy, you know? Doing all the quests. Saving all the people. This was before I even started any of the Guild quests, like Dark Brotherhood.

Eventually, I started getting the urge to kill. Not anyone in particular, but definitely a human or at least a humanoid.

So, I went into the central city, the one with all the townhomes or duplexes or whatever the fuck they are, and I picked my target. Some woman (oh, god) who was walking alone. I saved the game, got into the gear that was best for stealth, and I followed her into an alley.

That's when I snuck up behind her and killed her.

Basically, I have already played a game where I am a straight up serial killer.
 
Yes. I dont' care about digital pixels, just like psychotics don't care about real people. So if the gameplay is interesting I'll do it.
