Nathan Drake's looking good (Uncharted 4)

I'll do one better. Looking forward to Evil Within? It's nowhere near an open-world experience and definitely doesn'' have as much to do in the game as AC:Unity. Surely that game can push 60fps on next-gen right? How about Dragon Age? Why is that game (which isn't open-world) only pushing 30fps too? How about Shadow of Mordor? Alien? Witcher 3? None of those games are pushing 60fps! Are all the developers idiots and just don't know how to program?

I'm not defending Ubisoft for their stupid remarks, but the game is highly prestigious in the rendering 1,000s of characters with AI, etc.. just knowing that alone would make me doubt PS4/X1 could achieve it 1080p/60fps.
What's exactly the point?

Yeap.. as long as they give a talk (which I'll attend) on how their graphics engine does more than all the others out today.

this is being silly. yes they probably can give a talk on the advances they have have made. And if you have been to any seriously scientific talks no one talks about hardcore optimizations because that is of no consequence to the scientific community. So no they wont explain in a talk how they can eek out 20% more but yeah they probably could talk about their new rendering pipeline.

don't pull out the talk card unless you know what youre talking about.

EDIT and thats not even getting into the whole question of they have no obligation of explaining their optimizations because theyre a product oriented company not a research lab.

Really hope Drake dies so that we actually get a proper ending and some closure. Because if he lives, some studio(maybe even ND) will make Uncharted 5,6,7,8,9 etc. down the line.
I don't see how an ending requires proper closure via death. Jak didn't die and they've stopped that series pretty much forever.

But ... but that isn't even the most recent 3D modelling of Drake for Uncharted 4. The most recent one is different. Younger looking, and many less poly's.

EDIT:
Ah, 'E3 Trailer Drake'.

All this really makes me wonder what ND could do on a high-end PC.

If it were literally just developed and optimised for the best, most powerful components on the market, I'm pretty sure anyone playing it would end up like the Nazis at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Honestly I could see a normal scalable PC game made for multiple hardware set ups going either way. Maybe mind blowing, maybe an unoptimised mess for most set ups.

They're pretty much the poster child for just how much juice you can squeeze out of fixed hardware, and why console hardware can't just be judged by PC standards.

Still, I'd love to find out what they could do with basically no limitations...

kind of conflicting questions? think about it . you go all out with algorithms/rending. Then you optimize as hell to make it fit into the memory and processing you have on hard. its an iterative process. If I as a programmer had unlimited resources I would push and push and when i hit a wall i optimize and optimize.

So I think the better question would be what would nd do with say ps5 if they had access to it now? (or the computational equivalent)

Yeah. I'm just curious how their work would stack up against a studio like CDPR.

Isn't this the in-game model?

It certainly looks much more achievable.

Well yeah it is.
But thats offscreen footage with horrible compression.
Hard to see any detail

@ Abdul: Of course it won't be rendered like that when your camera is behind him, 5 feet above.
But I guess that's the highest LOD

That thread title is very much at odds with the opening post. I take it this was another Uncharted thread that descended into that whole 'ludonarrative dissonance' bollocks again.

I'm confused by the title change. Browsed a few pages and mostly see discussions on how ND is or isn't in a league of its own.

Uhhh..er...

But Naughty Dog didn't make that. I couldn't care less if Uncharted 5,6,7,infinity were made by someone else as long as Naughty Dog made something new. As far as I'm concerned, it's not a real Uncharted game if it isn't made by the original creators. If they're good, I'll still consider them, but if not, then fuck it.

Yeah, that makes more sense. But man, LOD transitions happening on the face...seems really tricky. Don't know if it would create weird data streaming issues if you pan the camera around really fast.

Uhhh..er...doesn't disprove my point. Naughty Dog didn't make that, so as far as Naughty Dog is concerned my claim remains: "they've stopped that series pretty much forever."

U4 will be ND's last Uncharted game. If there's another game released post-ND, fine. But even Jak hasn't seen a new game in over five years. I don't expect a glut of Uncharted games to liter our lives. Sure didn't happen with Jak.

Do you think Joels face in TLOU:R is always rendered the way it is in close ups?

The thread title is a bunch of bullshit...

Nathan Drake isn't a murderer, it's the player that chooses to kill them.

If you dont wanna kill then dont kill.

But don't come here and call him a murdering asshole.

What do you call the character in GTA? Ghandi?
