Nexus 6 = pocket computer.

Making phone calls is one of the many things it can do.

Can't help but think Google realizes phone calls is not what these devices are used for the most.

I for one, think 6 inches is gonna be the sweet spot for a device that is your primary computer, that fits in your pocket.

Can not wait to leave the Note line for a Nexus 6.

This is coming from a Note user who is very happy with the size of the screen.

Welp. The onslaught of gigantic phones is never going to end is it? Is the Z3C my best option for under 5" phones?

Z3C seems like the best sub 5 inch phone for Android. I nearly bought one but I'm concerned about Sony and how timely their android updates will be. It would have been awesome to get a Nexus phone based on the Z3C :/

I'll have to check it out.

I still have my Nexus 5, so I could just stick with it another year. Thing is, even the N5 is a bit too big for me, and I'm a sucker for new tech....

I never make calls, and for me, personally, this phone is way too big. My HTC One has a 4.7" screen, and it's already slightly too large to use with one hand.

I'd love a smaller, <5" option.

I still can't believe this giant-ass phone is the new Nexus phone. Really weird direction for the Nexus line to go in. More power to 'em. though. If I was going to hop back to Android this would be on the top of my list for consideration.

I'm not too fussed over all this.

The new Moto X is a Nexus phone, for all intents and purposes. I'll just get that if the Nexus 6 is a no-go.

I just can't wait until this ginormous thing is finally officially announced and N5 prices start dropping, so I can buy one

Word on the street is that AT&T is going to be offering for $50 on contract. If its true it could be super temping for me, I did just get a N5 in february, and I don't know if I really want a 6 inch phone, seems just massive.

I just really hope Google actually do something about the battery life this time. Nexus 5's battery life is abysmal, and gets even worse when paired with my Moto 360.

So tempted to pick up a Z3 or Z3C just for the awesome battery.

I'm not even sure if 3000mAh battery will be enough for that insane screen size and resolution. If battery sucks just like nexus 4 and 5 then I'll just get motoX with the student discount.

Bigger phones can house bigger batteries which means more battery life.

It's supposed to have a 3200mah battery I believe so it should have great battery life.

If the rumours are true which is 5.9" and 1440p I doubt it'll have 'great' battery life. You're powering more pixels, bigger panel, GPU has to push more power.

The situation with the note 4 isn't that different and based on reviews it has a pretty great battery life.

it has good battery life but, maybe i am wrong, isn't it like g3 vs g2, igood battery life but worse than its previous version?
Seems to be even better than the Note 3 based on this review:
As it turns out, our worries were in vain as Samsung has done more than enough on the back-end to compensate for the new more powerful chipset and the higher-res screen. The new phablet managed to last longer than the Galaxy Note 3 by just over 10h, posting the overall great score of 87h.

Predictions:
  • L announced, with name and numerous consumer facing features. Released on Nexus 5, 4, 7 (2013). Nexus 10 and Nexus 7 (2012) will not receive L. Remaining GPE devices to be updated mid-November.
  • Nexus 6 will be announced, will be slightly more expensive than the N5. Will be available on all major US carriers and a number of international ones and some brick and mortar/online stores. Release in early November. Will not have expandable storage, but all other rumours are true.
  • Nexus 9 announced, available for preorder today, to be released in late October through the Play Store and Amazon initially.

EDIT: I suspect Android Wear 2.0 is available from today, will be based on L.

i will wait for further impressions but i will be happy if i am wrong :)
So this time it was lg that should've waited for 805 and samsung did the right choice. And hopefully N6 behaves like note4 :)

Since that review they released an update which improved battery life even more. Plus the Touchwiz is meant to be worse than vanilla android for battery life, so if Nexus 6 has AMOLED then it's likely to have great, not just good, battery life.

Do we have a time for this? Surely they're not just going to post on the internet "hey guys nexus 9 and 6 are out now woooo!" - is there a media event?

Can Android Wear watches update themselves OTA regardless of manufacturer? E.g will all the watches such as the Moto 360 get the update today if this also gets announced?

There's not a keynote or anything.

It seems like there might be some media briefings at Google today - there are rumours Google are finishing one in Australia right about now. But they'll be embargoed and nobody knows what time until yet.

Expect media outlets/blog posts by Google today. No event, unless it was heavily embargoed.

Google have total control over Wear. OEM's install applications and functionality on top of Wear, but the core OS cannot be modified. This ensures OTA's go out at the same time on all devices (at least in theory).

I really, really think Google are going to force this for L. OEM's can "skin" the OS and provide their own applications through the Play Store then Google will update the OS on their own.

Seems Wear devices are all perfectly stock, so updating shouldn't require any sort of extra wait, unlike Android phones.

Ahh that's great, I hope the Moto360 gets it today if so. I just managed to get my order in at John Lewis last night before they sold out this morning, should have it tomorrow! Would be extra awesome if Wear 2.0 was out in time for me getting it :)

That is literally what happened last year with the N5.

If it's a N6, N9, Wear 2.0 and L release date (with final featurelist and proper name) then you'd expect a little more hoorah though.

I just got mine 2 days ago, I love it, even on 4.4W1.

I would! And I was saying yesterday in the Android thread, I would expect them to announce them on a day which isn't so close to Apple's event.

Google doesn't give a fuck though, apparently.
