Bah, looks like the low prices on unlocked phones has come to an end. Disappointed because I was looking to get the Nexus 6.

I'm not sure about it, but there should be a few stylus that work with every touchscreen :o

Yeah but all of those are passive, whereas the wacom digitizer in the Note is active. Active is muuuuuuuch better than passive for sketching which is why I want it. Plus there's a place to store the stylus within the phone itself which is also a plus

And wireless charging

Big fail on the headphone jack being on the top still

Seriously thinking about waiting for a Nexus 7 sale. The price for the 9 is higher than I expected. Hitting on a $400 tablet only for reading comics is kind of complicated.

$650 is way too much. I'm out. I'll stick with my Nexus 5 for a while and will probably look at the mid-range phablets available from the Chinese makers. I bought my N5 for 350 last year and I replaced it with another one for $150 last week when I broke it. $650 is way too much.

This I will full agree with.

Out of all the stuff announced the true gem of this all will the 64 bit project denver chipset combined with Android L and full 64 support.

what is so great about it? Sounds like the K1 in the nexus 9 is different from the K1 in the $100 cheaper shield tablet?

If it is that different, is there a risk it'll be wasted due to fragmentation and developers not supporting it properly?

16 GB min is ridiculous. 399 is ridiculous. Google just lost a lot of goodwill, I was a huge fan of the Nexus 7 and used it for two years, this could've been my next tablet. Now it's gonna be a Surface Pro 3.

So you're mad that a premium 9" tablet is $400 compared to $250 for a bare-bones 7" tablet, and your response is to buy a $1000+ tablet?

I know Google doesn't really mess with the subsidy thing (was it even possible to buy the 5 with one?) but surely that 6 price has to come down with a commitment through a carrier... right?

I made a whole thread about it an hour ago, but nobody replied.

They share the same GPU (clock speed unknown), but this new K1 is 64 bit project denver CPUs. Android L is the first 64 bit version of Android and the N9 is the first Nexus device to launch with a 64 bit CPU.

My 64 Bit K1 Thread with all sorts of info!

YMMV, but I find that a 7" screen is too small for reading manga, while a 10" is perfect. You certainly don't need a premium tablet like the Nexus 9 if you're really only going to be using it as a reader, though.

Why do you say the Nexus 7 is a bare-bones tablet? I thought it was a pretty solid tablet (at least the 2013 version).

Well, it's not bare-bones like a $99 no-name Chinese tablet, but it doesn't really have premium hardware in there, either. It's definitely good enough for most tablet usage if you're OK with the screen size.

It is solid (I own one), and you can argue it's good enough for most people.

That being said the hardware in the new N9 both in terms of screen, build quality, and chipset aren't even the same league. They are an order of magnitude part.

Your getting front facing speakers, a QHD screen, a 64 bit Nvidia K1 chipset, all in a nicely constructed HTC metal body.

Whether that is NEEDED for your average consumer can be debated. The hardware difference between the two is large though.

Good sound and volume, good camera, big battery, biggest screen with the new and more accurate AMOLED like the Note 4, fast charging, water resistant and stock android - if that what it is, I don't see any problem for a 650$. If they go premium price they can't get away with the problems of the N4 (VERY bad cam) and N5 (low volume speakers).

Will buy :(

Yup, I guess Google wants to do premium products under the Nexus brand now. Don't know how well that's going to work for them after they've trained people to expect low pricing with this line.

They should've then created a new brand while keeping a mid-tier brand alive since they already have a consumer base there.

The interesting thing about Nexus devices was that they were, at the same time, a good alternative for people buying phones on contract and off. Now they can only be afforded on contract and there's already tons of competition on that market.

I buy all my phones off contract (phone contracts aren't a big thing in my country) so this is prohibitive for me but I don't know if this is the best path for the brand and now I need to hope that Motorola continues their efforts to offer vanilla Android with good specs and prices moving forward.

And this is all without even touching on the size that it's a whole different can of worms.

Do we know that the $650 is the Google Play Store price? When the Nexus 5 launched it was $350 directly from google, but T-Mobile was charging $450 for it without subsidies.

My iphone 6 is already up for sale after seeing this.
I look forward to when the pre-orders go up in the UK.
Really liking the look of L over ios8.

There should be a two threads. One for the 6 and one for the 9. The discussion is kinda flip flopping between the two and its hard to figure out which one some are talking about.

I may sell my 6 Plus for this, where are you selling yours? I have to wait to sell the iphone until I get the Nexus though, I don't have a back-up phone. :(

Can I list my iphone 6 plus on ebay and just have a note that it won't ship until the Nexus is out?

Pleeeease tell me the Nexus Player will be available in Canada and we aren't subject to the stupid wait time we got for the Chromecast. This will finally replace my aging Boxee Box.

There will most likely be 2 OTs (I claimed the Nexus 6 one). This is just the announcement thread, so not sure it warrants 2. This thread will probably slow down a lot soon.

Was pretty hyped for the N6 but now I'm thinking of just getting my N5 fixed. Don't get me wrong, the N6 looks great. I just don't think I want to drop that much on a new phone when my 5 has been so good to me.

This is the first time I've had a phone for over a year.

While disappointing, this price reveals something about how Google feels about the state of Android: it can now compete directly with iOS without having to undercut it on price. We'll see if they are right.

Bought my N5 at launch for $350. Why do I find this so funny?

And WTF @ the 4:3 aspect ratio for the N9. Gross.

4:3 is awesome for tablets! Main reason I went with the OG iPad Mini over the Nexus 7. My mini's pretty much broken so the 9 is looking like an awesome upgrade potentially because of that screen.

I doubt this device puts much of a dent in iPhone sales, I imagine it's main competitor will be the higher end Samsung devices.

Yeah, seems like we should have a separate N6 and N9 threads now that both have been officially announced. I'd do it but I feel like I should probably get someone else more knowledgeable than me, or even the OP to do it.

If someone wants to make a Nexus 9 announcement thread, I'd check in with a mod, because this thread's title will need to be updated. That said, go for it.

I think the phone is very well equipped for the price. After seeing the teaser beauty video, I nearly cancelled my Xperia Z3 Compact order (as they are going to ship Nov 3, it seems.. :() - but realized why I bought Z3c in the beginning. I want a small phone, and this phone is freaking huge! Was originally going to jump to iPhone 6, but I thought it's too large when I saw it in person. I can't even fathom how big this thing is going to be...

I wish I had more premium choices for smaller phones. The big trend is getting ridiculous. 6" phone? and it's a reference? Oh my... Bring back sub 4.5" nexus w/ killer specs & batteries, please...

Not surprised with the price since they don't seem to be cutting corners with the new hardware. (N5 had a few modifications compared to LG G2) Gonna be hard to swallow for a lot of people for sure.

I want a video of the Nexus 9. Also accessories outside the keyboard. I went without a case or anything for my N7 without issue for 2 years but I feel like with a bigger device that would be foolish.

Price is completely unaffordable for me and probably most other low income people. Guess Google no longer wants me or the average person as a customer.
