so the n6 doesn't have led notifications huh? sticking with active notifications. well that is a huge bummer. this will sound like a first world problem, but now i have to actually touch my device to see what kind of notifications i'm getting?

those camera samples are really underwhelming too

Not sure how I feel about these. Definitely not a huge improvement, any.

Half of the reason android camera sucks is the generic camera software not tuned to any particular camera hardware more than anything else imo. I can easily take a raw image on OPO and create a much better resulting image than the built in camera app. Apple really tuned their software to work with their specific hardware.

Annnnd here's a Nexus 9 video. Looks like they're updating the launcher design again. It's also very fast:

When I had my moto X, I never really had to touch the screen to see that I got notifications. It would show up on movement of the device I believe. You can touch the icon to read the notification. I actually miss that feature, prefer it over led notifications.

right so you actually have to touch the phone to see if you have a notification. right now i can glance over and see the led blinking a particular color and know exactly what kind of notification is waiting

just more proof to me that this was never intended to be a nexus device

Man, this is me after watching the Nexus 9.
Looks so sleek, front speakers make much more sense, and finger print resistant is a huge plus (Nexus 7 seems to get dirty easily).
I have to keep telling myself "I already have a tablet".

Wtf Google. At the very least they could have made the base storage 32gb. They're never going to give a good explanation on why they won't move away from the 16 and 32 options. It's just so damn stupid if they're going with the premium pricing, but won't offer a 64gb option (unless it's coming later)

I'm going to buy this and just sell my iPhone 6 Plus when it comes in. My last android phone was the Droid X, is this one going to blow my mind?

Ahh, I got you. Not an issue for me I suppose since my phone is always on me.

Definitely, the Android OS has come a long way since Froyo.

Stock Android is gonna blow your mind yeah, L in particular is amazing. Definitely compared to what iOS is offering nowadays.

No LED notification light, damn that is one of my key features. Why on earth would they leave such a useful feature off a supposed "high spec" phone ?

The more I hear about the Nexus 6 the less I want it. Still have some interest in a Nexus 9 but it will depend on UK pricing. If it goes over £300 I aint touching it with a barge pole because it won't be worth it to me.

At this point I am wondering if Google is intentionally trying to destroy the Nexus program.

Wait, no notification light? That might be a deal breaker. Also, does the nexus 6 have ir for controlling tv?

Active Notifications was one of the best features of the Moto X last year. It's a huge battery saver, not having to turn on your screen to see what's going on.

Active notifications appear as app icons with a descriptive blurb. This year, active notifications appear not only when you touch/move your device, but also when you look at your screen. (Low powered camera sensor)

You guys are cray, active notifications is a killer feature that should an Android standard. (Though AMOLED is required)

:P

Another question, is this going to be easy to pre-order when I wake up in the morning? It's not going to be an iPhone situation of having to wake up at 2AM and order to be sure to get a phone right?

Although the nexus 6 was a huge flop (literallly) the nexus 9 is still alluring me. Wish it was cheaper. Any canadian prices? We're probably gonna get killed on it aren't we.

I want that Nexus 9, but my Note 8.0 is still working like a champ and the stylus support is a HUGE deal to me. :(
That Nexus 6 was almost an insta-buy, but the camera looks weak and the price is not something I'm too happy with when I can get a Z3 Compact, case, and dock and still have some cash left... Ugh, decisions...
I regret giving away my OnePlus One key. lol

The LED notification light allows for the same thing. You can set the light to flash any colour. I have it set to Green for email, red for Texts, Orange for charging. All I need from a notification light is for it to catch my attention and tell me there is something I need to look at.

If I have to "touch" or move my device to get the active notification then it is already a failure. I often leave my phone unattended with it sitting on a charging stand. When I come back if an email or text has come in I can clearly see it without touching or moving or going anywhere near my phone. As for the low camera sensor rubbish, if I am already looking at the screen for the camera to work then there is a pretty good chance I am doing so to actually LOOK at the phone anyway so that seems a bit pointless.

So I wouldn't say active notifications are a killer feature. I would say it's a down grade from the LED notifications.

The Nexus 9 looks great, but I wish Amazon's Instant Video player for Android allowed you to download movies that you've purchased or rented. The iPad and Kindle Fire series allows this. Sure you can buy/rent movies from the Play store, but I've been purchasing movies through Amazon the last few years.

Two things I'm confused about with N9.

First: Why go 64bit but still only include 2gb ram? Especially when the N6 has 3gb, as do some other comparable tablets?

Second: More generally what is with Tablets having the better camera on the back when only weirdos take pictures with tablets and normal people are more likely to use the front facing camera for webchat?

64bit is more than just more RAM. It's the extra processor extensions and such.

I know, but it is a factor. Especially when other devices are starting to up their RAM and they're now positioning this as an even more premium device. I'm not saying it's going to be an issue, just a bit odd.

Because google always did this, the nexus 4 and the nexus 5 were really cheap with flagship specs.

and in return they had awful battery life, build quality and speakers, to meet that price point they had to quit corners. This seems for the first time since the nexus one they arent cutting any corners.

Not gonna lie.... Both the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 are tempting.
Even with the massive size the Nexus 6 i'm still tempted.

Here is a nice page with some size comparisons for the 6 vs other phones:

Edit: After calibrating the website to match my Nexus 5 is size.... O_o The Nexus 5 fits inside the screen of the Nexus 6. Meaning the entire outside of the phone fits within the screen edges of the Nexus 6.

HOLY CRAP!

But I think I'm going to wait.
LOLlipop will make my 5 and 7 feel fresh. So I will wait until then.

Really hoping I can just pre-order this when I wake up on the 29th and not have to get up at 2AM like the iPhone pre-order...

I doubt a 6" phone will sell out in an hour mate, so I wouldn't worry too much about not getting one if you don't pre-order right as it comes online.

It's great that Google finally went with 4:3 for their big tablet, that's the ideal aspect ratio for a large tablet IMO (especially for reading).

It's gonna be available via your carrier of choice for the same price as the play store, so there are options at least now.

Might just go via the play store since I'm buying off contract.

Random question, will I have to call/go in to Verizon and get them to switch my plan from my iPhone 6 Plus to this phone, or can I just swap the micro sim card?
