Hatred - Reveal & Gameplay Trailer

I think one of the most disappointing things on display here is that it actually looks kind of fun to tear up the environments. I'd just rather not have to slaughter a bunch of people for no reason to do that.

When he shoots the lady in the face I got legitimately bummed out.

I don't really get what the big deal is but then again real life violence in small forms grosses me out, whereas video game violence is just delightful and silly to me.

Honestly I don't see much in that trailer that is new. In fact the part I was most offended by was when it switched to isometric shooter view because I realized it's another isometric shooter.

It's such a grey moral line when you state "it forces you to kill people" as if that is worse than, say, doing an evil Fallout 3 run and
literally nuking a town full of innocent people.

Or, the one that actually bothered me a little (TLOU end spoilers)
murdering a doctor capable of surgery after the fucking apocalypse
.

The actions have context at least. There is a story behind why the characters are doing these things. This is just straight up "Mass Murderer: The Game". Maybe there is some semblance of a story in the game, but that trailer didn't make it seem that way at all.

This is just way too over the top, and looks like mindless tantalizing garbage. I always think about violence or other things in video games this way: Movies, television, and games are all just forms of entertainment. Would this fly in a movie or TV show?

I think the answer is HELL NO! Seems like there is no plot and you are just killing people and liking it. At least GTA gives some context behind everything and you aren't a psychopath...

Yeah...about that...

But did you see the way he grabs her jacket doe?

Again, context is the key here. There isn't even a narrative to where you can say that it might be an examination of the mindset of this kind of person. Its just sadistic violence for the sake of it. And I don't think the game itself is actually all that offensive. I think honestly, the thing for me that disturbed me is the mindset of the developers who thought that literally making a murder simulator would be a good idea.

TOLU and Fallout 3 and even "No Russian" in MW2 have a lot of story and context behind them that both serve a greater purpose and come off in a less malicious tone than this. Its also different in the way that this is a thing that we deal with in modern day society on a disturbingly regular basis. So, yes its a bit more of a hot button than nuking a town of NPC's in Fallout.

Take the vilest violence from games of the past and a depressing amount of people are going to say "but that's just cool games for cool people!"

Twenty Million sold and counting.

::Shrug:: The conversations about Trevor in GTA5 and Niko in GTA4 and how they either always were, or turn into, complete psychopaths is an interesting one, and one that I think has more to do with narrative failings than anything else. Still, it's interesting how they make the player do things they abjectly don't want to do.

GTA is an interesting piece when talking about violence in video games because there are so many complexities. I doubt Hatred will have the same nuances.

What the fuck is wrong with these people. A step too far, but then people loved shit like Manhunt, so this is pretty much the next step beyond Postal and Rockstar's dark shit.

There is a clear difference. In Fallout you have the choice to kill or make evil decisions, but again, the game has a cartoonish look and has an overtly comical sense to it. Some of the evil decisions like the one behind your spoiler have humorous implications and a reward for doing so. Other things are a personal choice such as going around and killing everyone. Also, they can defend themselves, as they usually do. In Hatred, you are literally killing the helpless innocent people. However, that is not the only path or even remotely close to the same experience that a good character would have.

In TLOU, that action that you had to take was not in your control, you had to take it in order to progress the story. It probably bothered you because it was an action that went against your personal beliefs or ideology. This is very similar to the aspect of this game, where the killing is forced and can be very personal, such as the executions. While the people don't mean the same thing as person in your spoiler, they do share in that they were really pretty innocent and did nothing to deserve what happened to them.

Yeah the environmental destruction looks fucking neat

Faceless NPCs like the ones in this game don't really do anything to me so I have no problem giving the game a try

Manhunt was nowhere near as bad. You were playing as a serial killer yes but you were also murdering other scumbag neo-nazis and serial killers. The context and tone there is wildly different. You can say Manhunt was in bad taste or a bad game but the context and tone of the two games are nowhere near the same.

Gameplay looks dope, but the premise is so disturbing. Just the protagonists monologue is enough to turn me off completely, he sounds exactly like a stereotypical pretentious school shooter teen type that give 'gamers' a bad name. Won't be playing.

I don't have any knowledge on Polish history, but it sounds like they were an anti-communist resistance. That doesn't necessarily mean they were pro-nazi, at least I couldn't discern that from the Wikipedia article.

Some people are suggesting that posters on Stormfront (I don't want to look, I'm at work) also identify with this group?
