"Do kids watch this?" Has been my question since season 2 of ATLA. Season 3 of ATLA and all of korra felt as if they realized adults and other kids are 90 percent of the fanbase

Yeah I don't think so. It's def more aimed at young adults. And most ATLA fans would be older. So you are right. I don't get why they are making the Kuvira stuff so on the nose.

Because likely, a lot of this was put in place/written before the online-only switch two months ago.

Haha Azula, good luck to you!

Also I love this!

After talking to someone I just realized how meh Asami's character is. Being the whole rich character is kind of dull and whatnot when they actually don't do much with it.

A bad example of this, and I'm know I'm going to get a lot of flak for this is Asami from Legend of Korra. She's rich and likes make-up and what not, but she has no bad points whatsoever. She is just a pretty girl that happens to be rich. How she was raised didn't change her at all, it's like her money and her character are two separate things that she just happens to have.

A good example of this character is. Yai Ayanokoji? from Megaman battle network or Luviagelita Edelfelt from the Fate series.

They are both rich characters that value elegance and what not and somewhat shallow at times. But they still have a good heart that try to do the best they can for their friends, they are still spoiled and somewhat shallow, but that doesn't make them auto bad people that need to change their ways.

Accepting your flaws is far more important then trying to change them sometimes. And I feel a lot of series try to make characters grow past their bad points rather then just having them accept that some people are going to be like that at times.

People like Asami because I. She had a likable personality II. She had an interesring backstory with her mom being killed. III. She had an interesring plot when her dad decided to join the equalist movement and she had to go against her father IV. Her story had potential with her business being blacklisted because her fathers actions (her name was disgraced), she had no family anymore and her group of friends were conflicting because of what happened with Korra and Mako.

Book 1 wasn't very good with the character aspect in terms of making them interssting and giving them depth. So Asami came out it looking the best alongside Tenzin and Lin. However the writers have continually failed her character by pushing her to the side and throwing away her potential plot. It's telling that Asami had the best story out of the side charcters going into Book 2 and yet had almost zero screen time except being Makos booty call.

You have a point about her actual design maybe not being unique. But I still think she stood out the strongest in Book 1. Best I can say now is that at least they haven't made her worse as the show has gone on? I still think she's very likable. But she really has no plot anymore. And she's been kind of reduced to a perfect support charcter that always provides them with money and the right weapons/vehicles (that in itself isn't bad, but there is nothing to it and it kind of comes off..in a cheap way).

I can see that, but I don't think that Asami really has a lot of character outside of being the nice girl that can fight and is rich. I don't hate her, but her entire introduction episode was pretty much her proving her stereotype wrong by falling into another one.

She is honestly a really boring character to have on screen at times. That being said so isn't flat out offensive like Bolin has been the last two seasons. And she's the most likable out of the main cast. (For what's that's worth,)

Azula finna settle it in Smash, that's my boy.

Lol I was getting rekt. But s'all good still got a kiss. :p

I think your criticism are valid. I just think it can be applied to a lot of side charcters. Cast is way too big and most of them lack depth. I just think Asami rose to the top given how poor Book 1 was with that stuff. I can see your points though in terms of her personality. Not that many charcters on this show have a personality like Varrik that really stands out and feels unique.

I still personally like her. But I totally see your criticisms. I would say a chaarcter like Bolin has a much more distinct personality...and yet I've hated how they used it in Book 2 and 3 (well just me persobally. I see a lot of people say Bolin has been great every season).

Well then. My hunch was right. She just left and she went in for a kiss as she was leaving. Damn. She said we should hang out again. I'm torn. First off I had a really good time. She loves Korra and it was fun watching it with a fellow fan. Also she plays games and was really good at Smash. But the best thing is that it was nice to be able to talk to someone about this cancer and treatment since she's going through the same thing. We talked quite a bit about it. But I wasn't going into this for that reason.

Ah well. I think I'm just going to go for it. Person I liked won't ever like me so I should just move on. So I think I'm going to move on. Wish me luck guys! I guess either way I got some more support for this. I've been super lucky this past week. I really needed a break for a year and now I'm getting it.

Edit: sorry for the off topic talk.

Personally like her. But I agree. Not a fan of the evil visual cues and the dialogue. It comes off as like, the audience is dumb and needs to be told. Granted, kids do watch this show lol

I always get what I want...

yay, glad to hear it! It is destiny. GAF and Korra were meant for you.

Was hesitant at first. But fuck it, going to roll with it. Not very often you get chances like this in life where things seem to line up. Plus it is time to move on. Thanks to everyone for cheering me on. All your good vibes surely helped.

That and the power of Kuvira...

I really enjoy "villains" who aren't all muhahaha I will destroy you because reasons!. Even Bolin agrees. I can see the seeds they are laying to turn her into a muhahahaha I have the POWER villain but I hope they don't take the easy way out and keep it complicated.

another one for the cause

all things are possible with Kuvira in charge, friends

I can vouch that my kids (my fiancee's daughter and my own, both 8) watch Korra with us on Friday evening. Of course, with it being online only, I don't think they would watch it of their own accord.

And, I'm seriously enjoying the turnaround by Azula. It's incredibly heartwarming.

THe biggest way Asami got shafted by the writers is that every season, her role is "I invented [new thing], and am doing business with [territory of seasonal interest]." They don't go into enough depth with her to make her contribution to the story interesting.

She pretty much just exists to transport people when there's too much for Naga or Oogi to transport.

Yeah. I also kind of dislike how she's the perfect support with the right invention and the right weapon/vehicle when convenient. It ties into what you said (it lacking depth). But it kind of makes the charcter feel like a Mary sue (I know I'm using that term wrong). But yall know what I mean. It makes me sad :(

I don't think Asami invented anything. That's varrick or hiroshi

And she really was the best written character in book 1. The only one with a complete narrative arc.

:(
Yeah I know. They can't exactly right her to her narrative potential because that would take a lot of focus off of Korra, whom was okay, but hot headed in book one and unhinged Jack Bauer in book 2 for the first half.

I think it's more the fact that we rarely see the rich spoiled type character portrayed in a positive way in western media. Asami is rich, but that portion of her character rarely actually plays a part in it other then making stuff and having stuff. Though that might be a problem with Legend of Korra as a whole, there really isn't a lot of stand out characters in the story. They all fill very...lax.

Compared to the cast of the Avatar the Last Airbender who all had defining traits, legend of korra has Bolin who just sucks and everyone else just kind of...yeah.

Someone made a comparison earlier to Yuske's group from Yu Yu hakusho and how their personalities melded because they were all so strong. The gaang was far better with this as well,

Korra's group personality, and even overall heart feels limp. Because no one stands out, they barely bounce off one another

I thought Varrick invented the bullet train system and Asami just opened up the rail hub or something?

He created the magnet system for the speedtrain. Wasn't sure if Asami's train was tied to that. But maybe it was just the hub. It seems like a lot of her companies work are creating better versions or already existing devices. The satomobile being the exception.

Edit: yeah I think it was a hub. Good catch.

That was me. If the Krew had their problems in real life Korra and Asami would've had a fight and the cops would've pried their hair out of each others hands as they were rolling around in the street, Mako probably would've been tazed with Bolin shouting don't taze him breh.

I hope you establish a relationship with her where you promise that you'll support each other through whatever happens- regardless of whether or not the romance works out.

Good luck to ya, Azula

It would be nice if Korra comes back to kick Kuvira ass after jedi training but finds the earth kingdom being run flawlessly. The people love her, Kuvira shirts are the latest fashion craze, and some even name their babies after her.

But I'm sure Kuvira will end up being some power crazed villain that went too far. :/

Im liking Kuvira, i think its because she is more like a personal threat than a physical one (for now), team Z was fun to watch, and very powerful, but i dont think they even meet team Korra until half the season, and they were just criminals for awhile, their motivations were more or less a mystery until the finale, but Kuvira already has some connection with Bolin,Opal, Varrick and Su,she is loved by most of the Earth Kingdom, her rise to power was caused by the previous villain, like Book 3 and her motivations are more clear, of course, she could end up an underwhelming villain too.

But im not sure about her being evil Korra/Korra foil, she does not really remind me of Korra.

Yeah that's the odd thing. In interviews Bryke have made mention of her being like Korra if she was evil, but she really has no traits like her. Maybe if she starts to lose her composure, but I've never got a Korra sense off of her. She's just way more collected than Korra.

She's korra in the sense of her brute forcing her way through everything without diplomacy in a "my way or the highway" approach.

I mean Korra basically out muscled her way through each finale. In 'philosophy', they are alike

You do have an excellent point there and I do fully agree on that front as well. Korra received a lot of help in her finale's though so they weren't one woman shows. When she did try to brute force her way through everything she got her ass kicked.

i want to get in on this bet, i think my nisekoi avatar time should be up soon

i predict that korra will be able to get the best of toph in a fight

if wrong I'm at GAFs mercy

dude she built prison camps.

Hitler built prison camps for jews because they were scapegoats designed to turn the nation's attention away from their real problems.

I think she's more like Qin Shi Huang, which makes sense since The Earth Kingdom is a chinese analogue anyway.
