Gematsu: Sony to hold Playstation Experience event in December

Yup. Hack and slash/Character action games are the only thing Sony doesn't do all that much. Also, they can then contract Platinum to make the games for them.

Brilliant idea. The real question is why they never did this in the first place. Those games are in their user base above the others.

Don't Sony already have the best selling hack and slash in God of War?

There's also Bloodborne for something deeper.

I think the same thing about square making tomb raider exclusive to x1 yet it happened.

TR are is a timed exclusive and SE probably went that route so as not to compete with Uncharted 4.

Not to mention a game like TR doesn't benefit from a large player base like a fighting game of SF's caliber would.

In a dark room...someone lights up a cig, Rock/Metal music hits.. light goes on, Old Dante appears!

DMC5 PS4 exclusive. The son of Sparda has returned.

I go nuts... I woke up.

fml.

The entire idea of this new division is that they go out there, and make things happen, that otherwise would likely not happen for Playstation owners. Gio isn't the one who would be stopping games from appearing on other platforms, nor is he in a position to do such. Gio is there to bring games to the Playstation, that's it. But naturally, that help and assistance comes at a cost too. It seems quite childish to be so antagonistic towards him.

Not directed at you Shin.

Scott Rohde said on the latest Playstation Blogcast that Sony will be showing a lot of stuff that they probably shouldn't.

And the VGA's are going ahead - Geoff is referring to them in the tweet.

He even answered a question on Twitter about whether they were going ahead this year with ''most definitely''.

What does that mean?

I realized this, my ignorance (his point was it was exclusive at this time and perhaps not later) and have moved on from that.

Okay. Just remember SCE isn't going force developers into things they may not want. If it's a case of owning the IP, or it being a collaborative effort where there's money involved on our end, then it's a different case. At the same time, if we manage to convince a developer to do something, then that's a bonus for the company and for fans. Also a case of keeping those developer relations strong, since it will undoubtedly benefit SCE in the end.

What does that mean?
I believe he's saying Geoff has confirmed there is going to be a VGA or show of some sort this year. Look forward to it.

It's also why my bet has not been limited to this experience event, and why I'm giving people until Christmas Day. Do you get where I'm going with this? You may like what you see in the coming months, and so I should inform you that I have also noticed you're not part of the wager, so now would be a good time to roll that dice.

Yes, and that's because we're not going to force developers into things they may not want. How much do guys like Shahid and Gio really do? I mean, we've had small controversies where Shahid really believed that people want Hearts R over Type-0 on Vita (you don't need a poll for this), and he even fell bait to SE's blunder with the Type-0 Vita announcement.

It just seems like developers will do what's in their best interests, and it's Sony's job to create the best platform. I don't see how those two really contribute to creating the best platform when all you need are the numbers to speak for themselves.

I think the problem is people tend to simplify this a lot.

Bear in mind, Shahid and Gio are going to be involved in many different things. They're also not going to get an overview of lots of things, and they're also not high level executives who may have an overview of things, but don't always have the detail due to the day to day aspect of things. This is why different roles exist, why you delegate, and there are people reporting to you about various things, that could change many times. Also bear in mind that you have SCEE, SCEA, and SCEJ/A, and there are going to be discrepancies here and there. These are pretty big divisions, and they operate on their own hierarchy. Their job is to be dedicated to a certain aspect. Everyone has their roles after all. However, they're also going to be juggling a fair few prospects and propositions, which also means they can't always have the nitty and gritty details. They're also not always the only people necessarily involved. In the case of Shahid, his role is as a BDM. This effectively means he's a point of contact for a lot of developers, and his job is to help negotiate and assist in bringing projects to Playstation. This could mean making life easier for developers when they need it, and it could mean making projects happen that otherwise may not happen. Now, that's not necessarily the full extent of it, since I can't really speak on his behalf, but that's a general overview. And yes, their contributions are very valuable.

The Hearts R thing, I don't know about. I don't want to comment on stuff they're saying to fans, because that's them. I don't even know what that is for example.

Fans come in at the tail end of these things though. Remember that. If we use the Type-0 issue as an example, SE's decision to exclude Vita from the equation is something that happened in an awkward manner (although I do find it strange if they announced it as a Vita title because that's a bit ridiculous and something I wasn't aware of). Getting Type-0 on Playstation/Xbox was also mostly because of the FFXV demo and making that a worldwide proposition rather than Japan centric, something Shahid wasn't involved in (here we go to a higher level where we pull the strings). And it's also something that could be stemming from a simple misunderstanding on his part due to not being involved in the affair, which is what it sounds like.

On the last paragraph in particular, you would be surprised. Developer relations are very important. It's not always as simple as crunching numbers and making things happen. With smaller studios, it can be a matter of support and being there when you need them, and with larger companies, it can mean getting them to do something which you may feel is obvious but they're not doing until someone comes along and wrings it a little bit, and helps make it happen. SE is a good example of this. They're quite stubborn, and it's not always easy getting them to do stuff you may feel is so obvious.

Regarding the announcement, are the tweets from the gameblog editors accurate? Like, do you foresee some people being upset at the announcement?

Not him, but there are bound to be Playstation exclusive announcements that will make people "rage", like the Tomb Raider announcement on Microsoft's end.

Notice that nobody on Playstation has said anything regarding "rage", just stuff to be excited about. It's all positive for them if they get an exclusive on their console.

So verendus works for SCE?
No, I work for Microsoft.

See my tag? I'll replace Phil Spencer in about 1-2 years.

Edit:

Regarding the announcement, are the tweets from the gameblog editors accurate? Like, do you foresee some people being upset at the announcement?
I'd have to see the tweets, but saying people are going to be upset is quite a meaningless statement. What does that even mean? Who is going to be upset? Why are they going to be upset? Is it referring to disappointment (which always happens from my experience on GAF), or is it related to a game announcement upsetting people (but again in what way do they mean it's going to upset people)? Who is people, which fans, which people? Even with Playstation positive announcements, you have Playstation fans who will be upset.

I just learned the existence of excluded # PS4 which will engulf the internets in December GROSSE . Be prepared .

https://twitter.com/RomainMahut/status/522426216981471233

I know what it is and I can tell you that it will actually make a lot of noise (and do rager ) . # RTPrécédent

These are the two tweets he's talking about. Has the tone of a once 3rd party game going exclusive with a hardcore following.

Feel this will make people "rage" is stupid.
I mean what could it make specifity people goes upset? Is he mean fandom?

If nothing or bad news, normally I won't tweet but if massive deal, I would rather hype teaser in good way. Like Geoff tweet popular by this reason.

This feels familiar. I think I've commented on these before, as a passing joke. I don't really tend to comment or tease in regards to negative things as a rule of thumb (since I don't feel it's anyone business), and I'm mostly in joker mode when I do. I'll make an exception here since it's not controversial at the moment exactly.

First, a caveat: I don't know the specifics of everything that's happening in December, yet. This means in general, including what's being prepared for other events. I do have a solid idea mostly though. Secondly, whilst there a couple things that I could imagine would cause some anger from some non-Playstation fans, and this means in general (in terms of projects incoming over the coming years), I would highly doubt some random French people know what those are. So I'll just say they're stirring the pot.

It's always nice to see you post in a serious manner once in a while. :)

On a totally unrelated note, is there any update on that western 3rd party exclusive that, iirc, you mentioned last year?

LOl, i I have already told you to do not believe what comes from this site guys ( gameblog )

It's really easy to say " there is a big game, an incredible game which is coming to Playstation 4 ! I can't say what but it's a big game ! "

So games are coming to Playstation 4 ? No ? Seriously ?

And if the game is not announced in December they will say " Well things have changed, maybe at E3 :) "

...

I just want to echo that I really appreciate Verendus' input. Always interesting to get a realistic perspective without giving anything away from a bona fide insider.

Has Verendus ever leaked anything or hinted at anything that turned out to be true.

-He was the first one who actually said FF Versus would be renamed into FFXV & become a next Gen Game (other Insider like Thuway or Kagari didnt believe him and said it was Nonsense - but we know who was right in the End)

-He teased that DQ would come back to Playstation --> DQ Heroes

-He said that Sony Japan would work on RPG game that would make the Core Fans happy --> Bloodborne

It looks like he especially has many Informations on the Japanese Market

Yakuza though :/

Yeah he has a good track except the Yakuza stuff.

Honestly, there's nothing to update. Beyond what I already said, which gives an idea of the scale of both projects, there's nothing I could sensibly say.

Hey Verendus can i ask you a stupid question? I guess we already know the answer, but there will be a Vita segment at all in this event? Will some Vita/PSTV games(not necessarily new) be shown?
I think people have the wrong idea about this thing. Firstly, it's like a mini-convention. There is going to be a lot of developer interaction, interviews, in-depth explanations about various games, fanservice stuff etc. Vita is part of it all too. It's about Playstation. Those who aren't attending will also get the chance to see everything because the plan is for the media team to cover it all. You'll get videos (live and otherwise) as well as write-ups. This is a fan focused affair first and foremost. Everything else comes secondary.

Nope.

I basically copy what the actual people in the know tell me. Then add lies here and there to cover myself, and play pretend. Like an avatar for crazy people. I work for Microsoft. The tag is because, I think, a mod managed to figure that out. Initially, I was pretending to be someone else, so that I could get away with pretending to shamelessly mock something else when really I was doing it as a means of promotion, but then this tag giver must have figured out that I was actually someone who was pretending to be someone else, pretending to mock something else, when really I was someone else entirely different. And here we are.

we dont know what is happening behind the scenes of studios...Maybe Sega changed their plans due the lack of Yakuza sales in the West?

FF XV was also planned to be a exclusive game at first - but then SE changed their plans

Your avatar makes a lot more sense now.

Yeah, the perception that Sony is charging money for this meaning there's something special is kinda a wrong way to take it. This isn't a press event, this is a fan event. Naturally fans will get some special treat to make their visit to that convention worth it, but it's still not a press event like E3/Gamescom/TGS press conference.

But really Verendus, you work for MS? I totally thought you were at Sony's, unless you're still pretending to be someone else in a never ending circle of cover identities.

Still i really like your posts, and together with lealed info you at least have sense of humor (ie. the bet in this thread), unlike other pretentious insiders.

Verendus is Shu Yoshida.

Come on Verendus :) Just a simple Answer - You dont have to Name the Game - Just if it is among the list

About having the wrong idea, well you know Sony didn't have time for Vita in big conferences lol( :( ), this one is going to be a mini conference like you said... this is why i was asking.
