I hope they improve the game at least a little bit. At least offer better Mouse/Keyboard support and resolutions.

I'm looking forward to replaying the game either way, maybe I will unlock my save to get some more of the time consuming achievements.

It shows Achievements when I click it on my Library, however, I just made a new character and didn't get any achievements for acquiring an Estus, or arriving in Lordran. Guess they're still transitioning it.

Might come back to this to wash away the taste of DS2. Especially if the online becomes more functional.

Define "more functional".

If you mean "GFWL will stop screwing up and not letting you on at all", then yes probably. If you mean "I was online but hardly got summons/invasions and when they did I got lagstabbed"...you're probably screwed.

My understanding is the latter part is due to From's matchmaking setup in DS avoiding heavy use of a server (to try and avoid the eventual taking down of said server like the Demon's Souls players faced for a while).

DSII on the other hand does have a server which is why it mostly works when doing the whole multiplayer thing.

It still logged me in to GFWL, so the patch isn't live yet.

I also just realised how much I missed Dark Souls after DS2. My character was stood right in front of the Anor Londo blacksmith, as that's where I got my 1000/1000 achievement.

Not sure which is worse: waiting for the patch to go live, or waiting to see if it officially unlocks resolution and framerate when it does.

It would be nice to have 60fps with the required fixes for the resultant glitches in place.

Achievements aren't live, there is still no patch in the works.

Either they are starting development now, or From/Namco are just going to dump a patch they have been working on externally.

Episodes from Liberty City doesn't use GfWL. GTA4 has the achievements for them but it doesn't work like that.

I guess if you bought it from the XBL store (which you're hosed now that that's shutdown)...

I have a retail and a digital copy of Episodes from Liberty City that I bought on Steam. It says that GFWL is a requirement on the box.

Thank fuck !

I can´t get the fucking GFWL launcher to work on Windows 8.1.

We are so close to a GFWL free world. Just a few more to go.

I wonder what will happen to Gears one on PC. Given that MS have bought the IP chances are they will never update it or put it on Steam.

Shame.

So how does this work for people who have it already installed? When the time comes that GFWL gets removed does everyone just need to redownload Dark Souls from Steam again, is that what happened with the Batman games? Or is it like a small 30Mb patch that removes GFWL.

Man, I used to check obsessively for Steam chievos around the time GFWL was supposedly discontinuing. Guess I know what I'm up to this weekend.

Not my Steam copy. It never asked for GfWL. I'm talking the separate bought version, to be clear. Unless you're running the multiplayer it never asks for GfWL. I never had to enter a CD-key, mess with GfWL/Sign into a profile. I simply booted EfLC.exe and... was in either of the expansions.

.

Maybe the copy I got a year ago updated or something but it doesn't run GfWL. The GTA4.exe does however require GfWL to even run/boot. But EfLC.exe won't ask for a CD-key check or sign-in on a GfWL profile or anything (not even SecuROM, or the Social Club). However it does lock the multiplayer out since GfWL is required for the multiplayer.

Does anyone know if I can punch in my GFWL key to activate it on Steam?

We don't know. Wait until they actually announce the move and what their plans/intentions are?

Man, I don't even care if I lose my saves or have to get the achievements all over again. I would replay the out of Dark Souls on PC if it means I can do it with better netcode and proper steam integration.

Oh god, finally.

I actually decided to wait until GFWL removal way back when it was initially mooted.

I slightly regret this now but hey, it's fine. The moment GFWL is gone I'll have a full play-through of the game.

If the update borks DSfix and DSMousefix (and it probably will) they better implement better mouse/keyboard controls at the very least.

I know we don't know yet but we've had other games in the past do exactly what this move is likely to do, like with those Batman games, did people get to keep their installs for those, or did they have to download the whole thing over again.

I am Lttp and only started playing the game recently (currently at Sens Fortress), it will be definitely be nice to play the game without the GFWL stink.

I am on Windows 8.1, there is a fix to get it to work if you are interested, but it is a bit of a mission to implement. The game runs fine for me though with it. If i recall correctly, this is it: http://steamcommunity.com/app/211420/discussions/0/648814843331516565/

Cool. I have an issue where gfw won't let me type my password in anymore on windows7 and basically just haven't been playing my favorite game ever. It wot even let me access my saves without logging in.

Oh lord, this is fucking awesome! I had a slight hope that this may have been the case after the whole GFWL shut down alert.

This is very cool.

Ah, that makes sense. If it does unlock all achievements if you already have them in GFWL, that's going to be interesting. Suddenly obtain all achievements in a single day, at the same time.

Yeah just playing through to Lordran made me miss it a bunch. I might hop back on it again after I beat other games first.

It should be patched with Durante patch aswell. GFWL should be a secondary concern.

I would say the preservation and integrity of the game going forward is more important. Durante has already put in the work for DSfix, removing GFWL should take precedent.

I guess I'm gonna lose my save files in the progress too :(
If that's the price I have to pay to get rid of GFWL, then sure.

That's not necessarily true; they may implement some tool to transfer saves/achievements as other games did.
That said, and I won't pretend to speak for everyone here but just state a personal opinion, I would almost prefer if that was the case.
I would take it as a stronger incentive to replay the game from start.

Frankly my only significant concern is about DSfix.
Are they going to break it without implementing arbitrary resolution natively?

Not a bad price, but I doubt you will lose your save. Either Namco/From or a modder will convert the save to the updated format.

summon failed, summon failed, summon failed, summon failed, summon failed, summon failed, YOU HAVE BEEN INVADED!, summon failed, summon failed, summon failed!!!!!!!!!!!!

annoying as hell. made me go back to the Ps3 version.

and yes, i had my ports open etc.
