Resident Evil HD Remaster confirmed for PS3/PS4/360/XB1/PC

so here's a question which I cant remember for the life of me. Were there still ink ribbons in REmake? and if so, will the HD one still have them?

It's not that hard to manage them in the first place. They give you enough throughout the game. Just don't fucking save every time you see a typewriter.

thats fine when you are 15 and can play for hours on end, not so much when you are 35 and have to take real life breaks all the time :/ oh well, work around it I guess

Happy that they didn't dumb it down?

again, im too old to bother with "dumbing things down". I dont even think that would be dumbing it down, thats a quality of life type thing imo. I sware, if some old ass game poked you in the eye, and a remake removed that, people would still call it dumbing down. "I liked it when it blinded me because im hardcore motherfucker!" :p

Evil Within for example, I save, then I notice there was some ammo shortly after that I want to get and save again, if I die I dont have to pick it up again. Thats dumbing it down? The Evil Within has the perfect system imo, save points nicely spread, but generous checkpoins that dont make me stop wanting to play the game because I died and lost 45mins of progress (like Alien for example, if that had checkpoints, I would enjoy it a lot more)

There are enough ribbons in the game to make it a non issue. I'd love to talk to the guy that managed to use every single ribbon he found.

thats fine then, again, I barely remember REmake

If it somehow is an issue you can always play it on Dolphin and use save states.

I completely understand. My daily schedule is pretty hectic, so gaming time is always at a minimum due it work, gym, other hobbies, etc. Half the time I turn Evil Within on, I ask myself why I'm even doing it because I only have like 10 minutes to play it, which is like zero minutes in that game. That's why I love fighters. I can just jump in and out as I please and it's all good lol

Most of my gaming is done at night though, when I have a few hours to spare, and they aren't devoted to something else like photography, cooking, etc.

aye. I was / am actually thinking about doing that extra life 24hour thing, and im not sure how I would pull that off lol. Nor am I sure I CAN pull it off, im old, last saturday I was about ready to hit the sack before 10pm :(

to be fair, I work the graveyard shift all week, which is a motherfucker on your body lol

Ha, we are in the same boat then! I work over night(though I do photography during the day at times). This coming Wednesday I'll be 34, so I have some years beginning to stack on my shoulders. Feels good though.

REmake is a pretty short game. 1.5 - 2 hour range on average. I feel the best way to play it is by not using ink ribbons and trying to surivive the game in one sitting since its about as long as a single movie.

The last time I did that with a Resi game was part 2 in '98. No way do I have the perseverance to do that again. Infinite saves, imo, would totally ruin what difficulty these games have. Ink Ribbons would never work with Resi 4, though, due to the heavy emphasis on action and the long duration.

This is a joke post right? Or do you not know what average means?

A typical first playthrough is gonna be 15-20 hours.

Hahahahahahahah

Okay, this is insane.

Yes, it is 2 hours for someone who played the crap out of the both original and REmake and have 100% memory of what is going on. But even those that played crap out of the original will have absolute different ride with REmake and will last for hours.

Thosr who are coming into the RE for the first time... Hours and hours.

Also, there is the factor of slow pacing and actual enjoyment in environments, etc.

I agree with you how the actual game can be speedrunned in amazingly short period of time, but vast majority of players will have a totally different experience due to many, many factors.

Next boss coming up, Brag-Man?!

Looks ok.

Really would have liked them to go silly with the tech and combine characters better with background, but it would have required them to get a lot more information on the scene.
It certainly seems like that they didn't have source art and 3d models for all backgrounds.

Firstly, if they keep the door animations in (which im fine with, it makes tension), then they should at least improve them i think. Instead of a black background, maybe part of the wall too?

Also, there are reasons this game can't be 60fps. Some of the backgrounds are animated pre rendered backgrounds. Already animated at 30.. having 60fps characters and 30fps backgrounds would be kinda odd, right? i dunno, maybe it wouldn't look so bad..
here is a video of some of ZERO's backgrounds, you might see what i'm talking about (not the best examples in the video)

They are re-doing all or nearly all of the animated parts of backgrounds. So if they wanted, they could have aimed for 60fps.

not sure how I feel about that

If you're planning on playing PC version, there's undoubtedly going to be a trainer or mod removing the ink ribbon limit.

Either your memory is poor, or you're a speedrunner. The world record speedrun for REmake is only barely below 1.5 hours, so there's no chance a normal playthrough would get remotely close to that.

I'm no speedrunner, but I'm pretty familiar with the game and my last playthrough was around 5 hours long. A new player would definitely take at least 9 hours I think.

while he is exaggerating by saying re 1 (GC) can be beat in 1.5 hours, it can be easily beat under 3 hours. I done it back in the day to unlock the rocket launcher. Once you go through the game a couple of times and plan out exactly when to go where its quite easy.

As for the ink ribbon come on dudes you get more than enough for the entire game, unless you save every 5 min( which you shouldn't) by the time you fight last boss you will have 10+ ribbon left inside the storage chest...

The only concession to the save system I would accept is a suspend/resume feature. The typewriters should remain the point you go back to when you die.

My play time on REmake usually averages about 3 hours compared to 2 or 1:30 on the original game, which is shorter and lets you run faster.

A first time player on either can expect something like 6-8 hours of play.

That's speed run times aka you know exactly where to go and what to do.

New players or people like me who have not played it since the cube days will take a lot longer.

The problem with the save system is when you encounter a fucking boss and realize you have not saved for a while.

They are talking about first playthroughs.

I finished it for the first time on Dolphin last month and my playtime said 9~ hours, but that's not including time where I died and loaded back from a save state, so it was probably closer to 10-11 hours.

yea the first 10 times you play it, its all about taking in everything and reading the files and stuff. But people who've played this game a lot can get around 2 hours i feel. I didnt even realize the world record was around 1:30. The game isnt too long still so you can play it this way if you wanted as a challenge to keep it fun.

Is 1.5-2 hours how much it takes for you to beat your megaman games too?

'average'.

That is faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar from the average for a first play through.

6 hours? A typical gamer playing this for the first time finishing in 6 hours?

Generous.

A typical gamer today will turn it off after an hour, say 0/10 and make stupid comments about it on the internet "too hard, fu no checkpoints, where do I go? Worst game ever lolz, no quickscopezzz"

sadly

1.5-2 hours is speedrun times man. Though, back in the day I remember being able to 100% the game (that is, get the best ending with Jill) in 3 hours.

All the animated portions of the backgrounds are being redone in real time. There's no reason the PC version couldn't run that at 60... unless the game logic is tied to the framerate, which wouldn't surprise me.

The game could probably use a suspend mode.

6-8, if they're familiar with this type of game. Maybe a couple of hours longer if they're unaccustomed to puzzles, inventory management and exploration.

It's not a long game and never was, and I'm talking about both the original and the REmake. Although to its credit there's very little filler or repetition. It's a truly beautiful video game.

Never played the remake, but my first playthrough of RE1 took about 5 and a half hours.

So yeah, I'm expecting around 6-8 for newcomers.

It depends how often they die and how much progress they lose.

The game only totals up time saved, not lost. If anything, people will save time by dying, since they'll replay segments knowing what to do as opposed to wandering around while figuring things out.

Wait so the JP version will be censored right? It's only Resident Evil that gets exploding heads nowadays.

Since I doubt Capcom wants to do a Cero Z.

TEW is censored in Japan unless you have the uncensor patch dlc iirc.

I think the poster isn't talking about the ingame completion time but actually how much time they put in to the game.

Asian physical edition will include English text and voiceovers.
Players will be able to enjoy the upcoming 2015's enhanced version of RE, based on PS3 system language

Releasing on November 27, 2014

From Sony Asia. I'm really thinking about importing the Japanese Retail Collector's Edition. The only chance to get a physical copy of this.
