8 player mutiplayer Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Announced

No online multiplayer mode?

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!!

I know that 'order cancelled' has been used as a joke. But, if I had preodered this game this would definitely make me cancel it.

I have enough controllers to play 8 player Smash.... by myself.

In an eight-player battle, the following controllers can be used.

○Wii U GamePad (Max 1)
○Wii Remote or Wii Remote Plus* (Max 7)
○Wii U Pro Controller (Max 7)
○Nintendo GameCube controller** (Max 8)
○Nintendo 3DS series system*** (Max 8)

* Includes expansion controllers (such as the Nunchuk or Classic Controller Pro).
** Two GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U accessories are required to connect eight GameCube controllers (each sold separately)
*** In order to use a Nintendo 3DS as a controller, each Nintendo 3DS system must have Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS.

More than 4 Wii Remotes were possible this entire generation???

Typically with me and my friends we'd have anywhere from 5-8 people hanging out, so always had to do a rotating loser for someone else to jump in, which sucks for the less skilled players. This. Will. Be. Amazing.

Wait people would cancel their pre-order for a mode that was literally announced like an hour ago?

Local only? C'mon Nintendo...
Okay. In the 3DS game 2 player matches tend to be a lot smoother than 4 player ones which can become a lag filled piece of shit if one player is a weak link in the chain (and it probably won't be a lot better on the Wii U as the official LAN adapter is discontinued so many people won't bother getting one to help here) and you want to double the number of players? What do you think will happen?

Don't be like bububut 12 player Mario Kart works. A racing game is not a fighting game and by Mario Kart works you mean you hit someone with an item and they don't flinch because of position lag...

If someone could write this better and stick it into the OP please do as I feel half of the thread will be about this...

Well you could always have 4 wiimotes and a balance board so I'm not too surprised.

I'm already getting the GameCube controller adapter bundle, but I might need to pick up a few of those adapters that let them plug into Wii Remotes. And buy more GameCube controllers.

I want more info about what stages can be used with how many players.

local only tho. I have no use for this and now confirmed to only be used with bots :/ i can't even get 4 people to come over and play. I mean I could but they don't play video games so its just pointless.

What !
Quick, I need to recruit some new SSB friends for our usual friday nights :)
Man 4 players local was already crazy. Can't wait to try 8 players on one screen. Shit will be legendary. I'm sure my eyes will never know such level of dryness ;)

Sure if you want. It's nicely written for a laymen (if it's correct :P)

I assumed that since Smash on the Wii had an online multiplayer mode this would have one too. I just seems like common sense to me.

I think you're confusing two different points.

Super Smash Bros for Wii U has online play

The newly announced 8-player mode doesn't work online.

I use an official lan adapter on my Wii U. Will there be 4 player online?
4 players in for fun, 2 players in for glory (aka no items, fox only, final destination mode).

Tournament brackets should be able to be 4 player too (would be very odd if they were not given how they seem to have a lot of settings).

Okay, thanks for clearing that up. Someone asked if it was online play, and someone said no. I thought they meant the whole game. But it's just for the 8 player mode.
