What would you want from a higher-budget Legend of Korra/Avatar series game

The Legend of Korra game that just came out was pretty decent with good gameplay (that has to be unlocked), but weak everything else due to budget/time.

If there were a full-fledged title made, what would you want from it

Just for brevity's sake, I'll just liken what I'd hope for to existing games

  • Set in the city from the show, bustling, alive
  • bending that uses environment (e.g. pull water from stream/containers/fire hydrants)
  • plays like inFamous + Batman Arkham Knight (which would be super simple to do for developers — just take inFamous, connect it to Batman, done)
  • Able to call Korra's polar bear-dog she rides, like this
  • can switch bending at any time, mid-moves or even during Fist of the North Star QTEs
  • elemental traversal, more satisfying than that of inFamous (air scooter dash/wall-run w/the feel of Bayonetta's panther mode, ice slide, fire boost, earth spire jump like inFamous 2's ice jump)
  • main character is a good role model for children

Platinum's/Activision's TLoK really nailed how awesome it'd be to manipulate the four elements at once, and that was with Acti's super low budget/short time frame game model, so there's great potential gameplay-wise for something made with more time.

Maybe an open world batman type game with Platinum's combat from the Korra game since they already nailed that.

A different developer. The license is wasted on Platinum, Platinum is wasted on the license.

They nailed the only important part. The combat. I don't think any other developer could have done it better.

Action RPG.

Create your own character. Choose a bending type. Each bending type has its own origin story. Basically I'm thinking a modern Jade Empire.

And you get to interact with the characters from the main series. You can join up with them and form a party.

Your character also has its own "story" that happens outside of the time period of the plot in the main series so it's not just a rehash of the series.

I'd like an action game that follows a new avatar, so they're not bound to trying to recreate the show. Either that or an RPG following just a random bender.

Platinum nailed the combat for me...but if they had time and a proper budget this could be amazing...
Yup, game doesn't need another dev if Activision foot the bill they could have supported it more to have a bigger scope the core combat seems great (I've yet to play it but plan on it soon.)

Better graphics and presentation. As much as I love the gameplay - if this game released in 2005 on the PS2 Kingdom Hearts II would have slaughtered it in the graphics department. Korra's character model is great, everything else is just straight up embarassing by not only today's standards.

please no

wtf

the combat is the only part of the game that is any good.

Seriously guys?

on topic, longer game, and flesh out the combat by making element switching have unique combos. (like flowing from the airbending uppercut into the earthbending spike, but more of that with actual combos)

Honestly I don't mind the graphics. I think it looks fine for the cell shaded style.

I had an idea in mind, but it was incredibly close to yours, so... that!

Also, hopefully the combat a little deeper than both Infamous and Batman.

I really enjoy the combat in Korra, first I thought the countering stuff was more MGR but the flow becomes really fast paced on a replay with all the bending, it focused a lot of style switching which leads to some really cool ass combos, and I think the movesets in the game are actually really cool since some of them give different properties.

However if you take out all the gimmicks, the game is basically a few maps long with extremely limited amount of enemies, the game suffered from that and the padding didn't really help it.

There are some cool things you can do with elements even when it comes to platforming, if they would have a bigger budget to make it an okami-style adventure game but with the combat of this game and a bigger and more fleshed out skill trees, I think they'll have something special, I mean the elements could be used for puzzles+platforming and stuff if they want.

They need a bigger budget for a sequel and I hope they get one.

A massive open world RPG set sometime after Wan but before Yangchen where you are a previously unknown Avatar. I don't know about it being set after Korra, too much modern tech in my opinion.

The Naruto Storm games skinned with the Avatar (both shows) liscense.

Or

Platinum's game with a much much
much
larger budget and dev time.

Platinums take is fantastic of course, but ive always wanted a AAA Avatar JRPG. The show apes anime, the game should ape jrpgs imo. Scale like Ni No Kuni and free movement in battle, semi-ATB or something would be fantastic. Or just do Grandia's battle system lol

Since the franchise is pretty "done" on TV for right now, it'd be just amazing if Michael and Bryan wrote an entirely new story for this game. One that's canon, but that takes us away from Aang and Korra (and any of the other Avatars we've met). Maybe go to the Avatar after Korra. Or maybe go back centuries before Aang. Either way, I'd be happy.

It would need to be an ARPG somehow with a focus on learning the elements. Some kind of "open-world" would be preferred, especially if they can manage to write worthwhile text for tons of NPCs.

Graphically, it would need to be a little brighter. The LOK game looked a little too muted for me.

A complete removal of the Naga temple-run levels.

That said, I'd love to see Platinum given the proper time and money to create a fully realized, fleshed out, AAA Korra game. The foundation they laid for combat and bending exceeded my expectations. Now we need more diverse enemy types who actually fight (less bullet sponges please) and NPCs roaming the world - the levels can still be linear, but the city needs a bustling populace. I'd also like a better story that organically takes the player from one location to another. I hope this game sells well because it's a solid title. With the right time and money, I feel confident that Platinum could produce a Korra game that could rival stuff like DMC and Bayonetta.

Game takes place before Aang's awakening.
Open world : the 4 nations + the spirit world.
Sandbox type gameplay.
You can choose between Earth/Fire/Air/Water bending.
Each choice starts you in a different nation.
Air -> Be a monk hunted by the fire nation.
Fire -> You can enlist in the Fire nation's army.
You can learn to ride Air bisons.
Visit air temples to learn about the Avatar and also meditate to enter the spirit world.
Animations are even better than Overgrowth.

Game release date : Never.

Activision giving Platinum a real development cycle and not constantly stripping away funding as development progresses, like they kept doing for High Moon and Deadpool.

I loved the game. Combat was very well done, but like most people in the thread said: linking elements to their presence around you. The amount of fire hydrants around republic city looked cool, and could have served for water bending.

I would have liked to see a combat system independent of the bending. Where you have your conventional high/low attacks, sweeps, launchers etc. regardless of what kind of bending used, and switching types would produce different effects. (An air bending uppercut turns into a rock pillar stomp for example). There's a hint of this in Korra, but a bit more refinement would make it nice.

Also graphics update. Hoping some modders take their time with this one.

Ugh, I'd rather have combat that isn't dumbed down for combo-ing and flashiness. If it's from Platinum, I want an actual in depth combat system and they're more than capable enough of creating one

That was meant to be in reference to the world design/traversal. Combat would be more like Bayonetta, hence the panther mode mention.

I hate inFamous' hand-to-hand combat and am underwhelmed by it's combat in general

So — overall — the good parts of inFamous, Batman and Bayo combined which is easy to do.
