Xbox One Available for $349 in the U.S. This Holiday Season

Make the deal available in Canada and I'll bite.
I really want a XB1 after seeing FH2 and SO review so well, the OS upgrades have been hard to watch too since my PS4 is stuck in seemingly endless "stability updates", though 2.0 looks okay.

"Desperate" is a lazy word to use. MS wants to win. They are not winning. They are taking new measures to gain ground. Calling that desperate might have a grain of truth but it doesn't paint the full reality of the situation.

Xbox One does not exist in a bubble.

Reality seems to be conflicting with what fans want to believe is that Microsoft is simply cutting prices to be competitive.

That is one piece of the pie - the other major component is that PS4 is dominating, and Microsoft is one step short from organizing a pagan ritual to stop the momentum of its' competitor. And absolutely nothing has worked so far. Nothing.

Reducing a console's price by $200 in less than one year is nothing short of damning, and a complete slap in the face of early adopters.

Xbox One does not exist in a vacuum, and any retail piece of technology that reduces it's price to that extent in a year is catastrophic considering that they were market leader last generation.

So, in a nutshell, no, this price cut, along with the many others just signals how strong PS4 really is and correlates correctly with the abysmal position Xbox One is in relative to its competitor.

You think they are doing it out of the goodness of their hearts? It is what it is.

Removing Kinect, giving free games away, this price drop etc. are all as a result of the PS4 dominating. There's no ifs or buts about that.

The good part is that if you are interesting in the X1 then you can land some good deals as a result of the above.

You midunderstood my post, I know exactly why MS is doing this, Im just find funny that instead of people saying "MS did what should had done before", a group of people are finding ways to hate on the price cut.

They've lowered the entry price, it's very different to a price cut.
That is kind of how I read their post, hence the 'effective' price cut. Because, effectively, for the consumer waiting on the price to be right to 'jump in', that price point is now $150 less (so not quite the $200 as they said).

i can understand the rah rah of the american side of things but no way in hell does microsoft recover outside the us.

Naw, of course it can.

It depends on how much of a hit MS is willing to take on the box. Selling it at $149 and buying a couple of big big games would make it a winner everywhere.

The Man with the big wallet will always win in the end without proper market regulation. Microsoft can drop 6 billion without their share price taking a hit (see the aQuantive writeoff and the market's reaction). There are only two other companies on the planet with that ability, and Sony aint one.

The only stumbling block would be anti-dumping laws, which try to make sure competition remains in marketplaces. But videogame systems are not important to regulators and, more importantly, the remedies take years so it might be a price MS is willing to pay if they think they can drive the other players out of the market. On the other hand, MS might not want to raise the ire of the DoJ (let alone Nintendo/Sony fans, ;-) ).

If it was pre-DoJ prosecution MS, this fight would already be over.

There's nothing desperate about a $50 price drop off a $400-$500 item. It's called being competitive. They know Sony can't match it because Sony itself is in such dire straits. It's smart business.

November:
XB1 launches
March: Titanfall, the biggest MS exclusive of the year, bundled free with every XB1 purchase.
April: Forza 5 bundled for free
May: XB1 gets a new $399 SKU, removes Kinect, for June.
August: Madden bundled for free, FIFA and Forza bundled for free.
September: get a free game on top of bundled free games, includes any recent game like Destiny.
October: Sunset Overdrive bundled for free
November: $50 price cut across all bundles, Two-pack Assassins Creed Bundle and Call of Duty bundled with XB for free.

I can kind of see where people are coming from with the desperate claims. It's not like this is the first major push from MS, nor will it be the last. I mean, this is kind of insane when you think about it.

This is nothing but good news for gamers. Price cuts and whatnot mean competition. Just like when two gas stations have a gas war. The lower things cost, the more things I can buy. Win for me.

Desperation would be if MS locked you out of the Windows ecosystem unless you verified a working LIVE account. This is them being aggressive in their pricing and it will inevitably lead to something from Sony and that is what I sit and wring my hands for.

You do realize that the 499$ Xbox One at launch and this 349$ one you are talking about now are two different SKUs right? 499$ is now 449$, 399$ is now 349$, my math is not that good but that counts 50$ off only for me.

Yea, Sony is fucked.

Good on MS, knowing Sony probably can't retaliate given their financial difficulties.

Where the fuck is stuff like this coming from?

There's nothing stopping Sony from matching or beating this price drop. Thing is they don't need to, and they'll likely continue selling more consoles.

Come on, dude. MS is currently losing this battle badly next to their nearest competitor. That's the reason for all these desperate moves (cutting out Kinect, bundling with multiple games, and cutting MSRP significantly in its first year of life). If you think MS likes bleeding money, you haven't been paying attention.

You are correct.

I doubt Sony can match, which is unfortunate given how most console sales tend to occur during the holiday season.

MS has outmaneuvered Sony this holiday season, first with 3 critically well received games
and now a killer set of bundles at $349.

Bravo MS.

I think it's a smart move to have the price cut. I'm still not getting one yet due to their actions the last few years, but they've certainly improved in the last few months.

So the November 2nd date makes this really inconvenient for the Sunset Overdrive bundle. I had planned on using a 10% off coupon at Best Buy. However, if I use it at the time of purchase to bring the console down to $360, I'm no longer eligible for the price matching come Nov. 2, per Best buy policy.

If I wait until Nov. 2 to buy, I can buy it for $350 and use the 10% off coupon and get it for $315. However, they'll all be sold out by then.

Right now I'm thinking the best option is to go buy it tomorrow, don't open it, return it Sunday for a full refund, then repurchase it right then when it will ring up at the $350 price and I can use my coupon.

Why do you have to do that? Their policy says that if the price is dropped during the warranty/exchange period, they will refund the difference upon request.

Shit I'm in lol. Do any of these bundles come with kinect? I want to sunset overdrive one. Damn I'm sold as soon as these go on sale.

And here it is (the desperation on MS's part) in a nicely bundled nutshell!

Good for gamers, though. And validates why a one console market would be bad for gamers.

Has there been any suggestion of a Canadian deal? The Kinectless SKU has always cost around $350 US here in Canada with our exchange.

No, but deals like this generally lean more towards a "North America-wide" type thing, at least when we have a strong dollar. It probably won't happen, but I choose to hope. MS bit the bullet and kept the price low when Sony raised theirs, maybe they're EXTRA hungry

How low can you go?

limboflickrlolodrakecc-590x551.jpg

This image is a good metaphor for Microsoft. You've got to hit the sweet spot. Going too low could be just as dangerous as not going low enough.

Also, is the ugly COD console the only 1TB one? I want the SO bundle, but a larger HDD.

Regardless of the "desperation" comment. The more people that buy an XBox One and are exposed to all of its features the better. I think there are just so many people that comment negatively about the system but have never used one. Once there are more folks that own the system there will be a bigger voice to counter some of the misguided noise.

How much do people care about the tastes of critics? I wish I had the answer to that. I mean, The Walking Dead season 1 sold how many copies, 1 or 2 million? On the other hand The Last of Us pushed 7 million.

I guess all I can say for sure is that critics like zombie games with young girls and meh gameplay a hell of a lot. SO has zombies, any young girls in that game?

YOLO strats encapsulated.

Finally priced their machine at what it's worth.
Seeing as I already have a PS4, this deal isn't sweet enough just to play a few exclusives.
Only really interested in the MCC anyway.

We haven't even come close to hitting bottom, fire sale prices.

Not sure how you're confident about Sony price matching.

There's nothing indicating that they will.

MS has money to burn.

The goal is to increase install base and they've set themselves up very well to do so this holiday season.

That NA lead will likely shrink back down to ~750K from the current ~1m by January.

Purchase it and return unopened. They'll probably just rering it at the counter with the new price

Ok, an Xbox One with a game in November 2013 was $549.99.

An Xbox One with a game in November 2014 is now $349.99.

Mathematics is simple.

Thanks.

It's clear from this that whatever you may feel about Xbox sales numbers, it's pretty clear that Microsoft is not happy.

Why do you have to do that? Their policy says that if the price is dropped during the warranty/exchange period, they will refund the difference upon request.

Our Price Match Guarantee does not cover:

Any financing offers, bundle offers, free items, pricing errors, mail-in offers, coupon offers, items that are advertised as limited quantity...

Price match denial due to the coupon is a definite, but it looks like they could deny anyone based on the limited quantity clause too. I was just at the store and their display/ad for the bundle describes it as a limited quantity item in the fine print. So heads-up to anyone thinking about Best Buy.

Not sure how you're confident about Sony price matching.

There's nothing indicating that they will.

Because if you think they're going to let Microsoft catch up you're extremely wrong. They will match the price, and continue to sell 100% more than Microsoft.

Desperate isn't a grain of truth but just a fact. They are desperate and aggressive, and that's great for consumers. There's nothing lazy about a factual statement.

Wowow to think just a little less than a year ago the thing cost $500. I wonder if Sony will do anything cool like this. If they do my bro might get a ps4 of his own.
