Nintendo Amiibo Look a Bit Different in Final Production vs. Advertised

They look more like mass produced blind box/capsule toy figures that'd I'd probably pay about 10 bucks for anyways.

The worst is definitely Peach, but overall I don't think they look too bad.

But they all look good?? This "downgrade" was expected. I was expecting a worse downgrade TBH, almost to look like McDonalds quality toys but the final Amiibo figures look good actually. Mario in particular looks almost identical to the promo image.

Yep, they look absolutely awful.
I kinda expected this, but I gave in to the hype.

I had 13 preordered, but I'll be cutting down to just Pikachu and Kirby.
Doubt I'll ever get any others.

I dont think anyone is surprised that there's a quality downgrade. It's more that the downgrade is so severe that Nintendo's figures look markedly worse than similarly priced competition.

...hate me...
Most of them look about the same, bar the product shot vs real life / amateur shot.

Peach's model is downright altered though.

The 'piss yellow' really is a weird choice on the Link toy. Clear plastic would have been better.

This. Link is honestly the one that looks the worse and adding that yellow stand makes it even uglier. Reggie and his obsession with yellow/golden colors either on boxarts, special editions, bundles and now Amiibo, is getting out of hand. Iwata should tell him something, idk.

I didn't think they looked great anyway and presumed Nintendo weren't showing off better looking prototypes, so the downgrade is shocking.

Link looks like he pissed into a tube and now has his knob stuck on the top. Or he is trying to mount it. WTF at that positioning and colour.

I wonder why they chose poses that made them not very structurally support. WFT has her leg encased in a block of ice.
They went with the Smash Bros classic mode trophy poses as the Melee FMV intro shows those turning into he fighters. I wonder if they got halfway through this and thought "no point turning back".

I think main issues I have are that Peach looks terrible now and Link has a stupid yellow stick (I didn't like a stick at all even if clear, but that yellow just looks terrible). The rest don't look too bad. Kirby, Pikachu, Yoshi and Mario still look great, and I actually like Link's shield color better.

My Walmart had this display up for them yesterday: http://i.imgur.com/o0XjQ9T.jpg

And yes, they look extremely cheap in person and this display doesn't explain shit about them. I clicked on the Zelda one, dragged a link figure on the screen to the upad, and... Got a Zelda history slideshow.

I don't see much of a difference other than that the promo shots are ideal lighting and perfectly painted.

Happens with all mass produced figures.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

That Walmart display seems nice, though.

I doubt that the proper Amiibo functionality is there right now for HW.

In that pick they look pretty awesome.

Yeah, gonna cancel that Peach. Her face looks different than what was shown.

The other 3 I have preordered should be fine.

At $15 they were never gonna be as good as more expensive figures, but I at least hope the paint job is decent enough.

I didn't think they were worth $15 each when they looked nice, these new ones should be $5.99. Happy Meal toy on a fancy stand.

Peach and Marth look atrocious. The only one I'll buy right now is Kirby, then I'll wait for King Dedede and Wario to arrive. Furthermore, I don't know what demographic Nintendo is trying to reach with these. The core won't care because of the cheap build quality, and little kids won't care because these dumb things add nothing of value to their game. Oh boy, I can train alongside an AI character!

Sorry OP, but your over reacting. With the exception of Links Ugly pole, they all look basically identical. Actually use the same camera angle and put a spot light on a white surface.

The humanoid characters really look worse compared to ones like Kirby or Pikachu. Of course if you're buying these to display, you're doing it wrong especially when there are far better alternatives:

That Nendoroid is 50$, this is 15$. Please show me a better alternatives at 15$.

They're supposed to be making a Link Between Worlds figma, but I haven't heard anything about it since February.

They are appealing. They're high quality figs.

Only caveats are they are not cheap ($50) and the joints are loose, so the limbs deattach easily. They're for displaying, not playing.
Some places seem to have them for much more than $50. I think I'll be on the prowl for them now as well.

As a complete layman in figurines, I see virtually no difference between the two sets save for the professional lighting in the pre-release shots.

edit: looking closer, Link's pillar is thicker and a shittier colour, and the pre-release shot of the Wii Fit trainer cleverly hides the plastic bit near her foot. Otherwise, they seem virtually identical with the only difference being how they are lit and photographed.

I'm not even talking the differences between a promo Big Mac and a real Big Mac in a restaurant here, just looking at a professionally shot food gallery and then look at that exact same plate of food in person.

Wow. Surprised this thread didn't exist until today. Either way, most of them are fine in my opinion. Especially Mario, pikachu, Yoshi, Wii fit trainer, and kirby. Most changes with the exception of peach were probably to keep in mind that a lot of kids will have these and they didn't want them to break easily.

Peach looks bad. Ah well.

Maybe I had a bit more hope because of the quality of Disney Infinity's figures - they look basically identical to render shots.

Kirby and Pikachu's faces look really off. And Link (the one I'm getting) is ruined by the stand being yellow.
The downgrades still look better than usual cheap toys though. Mario looks the most accurate.

Like other toylines it will probably improve as time goes on. Skylanders is a good example of this.

They look pretty close to me, which if mass produced at that quality level will be a big step up from what others put out. That said why is Link so pale? Everyone else looks fine but the per-production shots make him look terrible

I think the problem is that this is what people expected, but they are not bad at all for something mass produced for a global market. Sadly you can still get better detailed/high quality figures out of Japanese capsule toys.

Aside from the piss color and the bit of sword droop, these look fine, Idk why anyone was expecting the prototype to look like the final product, it's a mass produced fig, and for the money they look decent enough.
