GOG | October 2014 - Eschewing the typical DRM puzzles of its peers

Dreamfall Chapters is great, by the way. Performance problems are definitely an issue, though, and I'm not sure how much they can improve things considering that it's a large scale game in Unity.

Still worth playing. It's in the top 0.1% of videogame writing and voice acting already. Then there's this article on Europolis.

Despite its problems though, and Zoe very clearly still fighting the depression she had at the start of Dreamfall, it's not the problems that really stand out in her district - Propast - but the sense of life. Put bluntly, and unlike most cyberpunk worlds I've seen, just about everything you see is there to reinforce that the people who live here actually give a shit. The main topic of conversation is an upcoming political election, and while it's pointed out that none of them are going to save the world, there's a buzz on the streets as everyone discusses their favourite candidates. There are police checkpoints, but there are also big (peaceful) demonstrations protesting them, instead of everyone just rolling over and accepting that things are what they are. There's no shortage of decay, and at least informed danger when it comes to bad streets and gangsters and the increasing police presence. But there's also excitement, life, and passion, as well as a cultural mix of everyone from punks with holographic mohawks to girls in mass-produced Bingo T-Shirts. It's a place you can imagine people choosing to live, not simply being trapped to await death.

How can anyone hate on gog when they have this as a stament in their main page
Fair Price Package
Because $1 is not €1
Sure they make up for it by giving you GOG credit, but I think its a nice gesture allowing one to get an extra game almost for free.

You weren't there when they stealthily removed that statement from their main page and implemented massively unfair regional pricing for select games? Community hate was just amazing that day.

well... you can't just go against what made you popular in the first place. There are always consequences and a lot of hate too.

I remember when they did go with having high prices for EU users, but then they dropped that.

And here...we...go...

Star Wars: X-Wing Special Edition
Sam and Max Hit the Road
Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
Star Wars: TIE Fighter Special Edition
The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition
KotOR

Someone located the release threads in General Discussion, which means GOG's drumming up hype with these leaks.

lol, this always happens because they post them onto the forum but an automated system blocks them until whatever time the release is.

I'm in for sam and max, kotor and indiana jones, the others I can grab later.

I'm ready for TIE Fighter again. I'm so, so ready.

Would pay extra for the original release of Monkey Island.

But that mostly goes for MI2. While the special edition does some of that amazing interactive music thing, it's not the same as the original release.

Buying KOTOR as soon as it's up. Glad they're giving us a variety of Lucasarts stuff instead of just starting with the absolute oldest games in the catalog.

This is killer! Can't wait to get my hands on GOG's fixed up versions, see how smooth they run. Still have the original disks for these, so it'll be nice to have something that runs right away.

Which is considered to be the best, X-wing or TIE Fighter? I think I'll buy one game now and wait for a sale on the rest.

If GOG can get X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter's multiplayer functions working with or without Galaxy functionality, then that would be the ideal alternative to TIE Fighter.

seems almost too good to be true, tie fighter finally gets a digital release on gog.

i've been waiting such a long time.

TIE Fighter is generally regarded as the better of the two, IIRC.
Indeed, TIE Fighter is the better of the two. Besides the engine improvements over X-Wing, the real star of TF is the campaign, which takes on the tough task of presenting the villains' perspective. Instead of being a bunch of hand-wringing bad guys, the Empire is presented as the stabilizing force in the galaxy; fighting pirates, resolving civil wars, and rooting out traitors. Plus, it has one of the few voiced appearances of everybody's favorite Grand Admiral!

In short: Say what you will about Palpatine, at least he made the space trains run on time!

TIE Fighter is one of, if not the, single best games ever made--and it will be the single best game on GOG once released.

I'm not being hyperbolic.

Even if you don't like space games, just turn cheats on (there's an in-game toggle to do so) and enjoy the game. Even if you're not a Star Wars fan. Seriously.

So much content, excellent story, fun gameplay with lots of variety, great writing.

My dad raves about it all the time, so I'm finally going to try it out for myself (hell, I should call him and let him know that they're re-releasing it)

What if I don't like space games and I'm not a Star Wars fan?

EDIT: Just watched a video of it - is there a 3rd-person view? Since, the 1st-person view is making me sick.

The opening cinematic alone is worth the price of admission. Lucasarts of the 90s was *MAGIC*

What's the difference between MI2SE played in MI2 mode and MI2?

gog needs a Japanese branch
Not even Project EGG, the most popular service for older computer stuff, can will rights-holders to accept DRM-free and lack of a subscription paywall. Japanese PC gaming's in death throes as we speak, so it's hard not to feel like we're vultures waiting for a sky burial so we can get the Japanese games over here.

yeah, wishful thinking at this point.

Too bad capcom USA couldn't get the Japanese branch to sign off on getting those megaman games in GOG. I guess the street fighter port on GOG didn't sell that well.
