Valkyria Chronicles for PC [Nov 11, £14/20/$20, has all DLC, 60fps/1080p+, $14 GMG]

So GAF.. Is this a good game??

...Yes? Why else would people be disappointed with Val Chron 2 and 3 being PSP-only after the PS3 1?

SMT? I mean, it's Sega now. To some extent.

Atlus is under Sega now, yes. But Atlus is autonomous to Sega AFAIK. You'd have to literally beg in Japanese to Atlus Japan to get them on board with porting their titles to PC or giving them to Sega to port.

That said, if Atlus ported Persona 1-4 (Persona 1 already has a port) and their SMT titles (and Catherine) with P4U/2 to PC, I'd rebuy them all.

Yakuza 3, 4 and the zombie spin off that were already translated could be possible but asking for Yakuza 5/0/ishin is on an entirely different league.

It's been a long time since I've been this excited for a game. I wonder what time estimate we are talking about here.

This is totally out of the blue. I am crossing my fingers the port is polished and has some work put into it (unlike the rush job that was FFXIII).

Extremely excited for this, the game is going to look gorgeous on PC. Can't wait to replay it.

The least likely one to get ported (due to the engine) made it's way to the PC.
Here's hoping that spells well for the rest.

The setting is more anime-ified (in a bad way), the maps are smaller (fucking PSP), and worst of all they came up with a terrible, grindy character progression system.

Basically, SEGA killed this franchise by moving it to PSP and shoehorning local multiplayer in order to try and capitalize on the Monster Hunter craze. They barely sold as much as the first one in Japan (at a lower sale price), and completely killed sales in the West.

The constant repeating of maps absolutely killed VC2 to me, I really wanted to love the game but I just couldn't.

The sky's the limit now, folks. A former PS3 exclusive on a custom tailored engine? Yiss.
I'm so curious about the quality of the PC port.

Because it is a single-console exclusive (and on a system quite unlike a PC in HW and its software stack) you could really make an argument in either direction of what this means for the port. ("They'll have to invest non-trivial programming effort even just to get it to work, so they'll also tailor it to the platform while the are at it" or "Since they already need to work just to make it run, they'll do the bare minimum")

Sega has an excellent track record when it comes to PC ports with great post-release support.

I just want to know what kind of 2014 HD goodness they can add... and secretly hoping for eventual ports of th sequels.

Hey, is VC3 more like the original or the sequel? I know there's some mechanical adjustments, like unique actions for hero units, and the story's different enough, but I know little about the story progression or unit development.

it plays slightly towards the original than 2, the class level system no longer requires degrees/credits, but you become a veteran/elite of the class that you've chosen for a unit via usage and you can switch classes at any time. EXP this time is spent on the whole squad's parameters (Evasion/Accuracy/HP/Defense/etc).

Story progression is done through a map this time rather than a book and chapters are usually divided by 3 story missions and a free mission or two. You also have a choice at certain points with mission routes and story cutscenes
(though the latter involves which waifu-Riela/Imca- Kurt spends time with)

Edit: Oh and thankfully, none of that tank coating non-sense.

Much as I wanted a lot of other Sega games before this one, I have to commend them on the fact that despite this seeming a leftfield choice at first glance its actually the one that makes the most sense on PC when you think about it. Its a turn based strategy game and should translate well to mouse control if desired. Good thinking Sega, you are capable of doing it after all.

Now please let this sell and be the first of many ports.

Sega PC games are usually decent though right (technical I mean)?

Well, if the work they do on a PC port allows them to put out a current gen console remaster and with the console space being more receptive to this kind of game with XCOM's breakout success I think it could be justified.

Yeah well, FFXIII and Dark Souls had 360 versions and were multiplatform titles and they got shitty PC ports that you had to fix so let's wait and see on this one.

Valkyria Chronicles is one of my favorite games from the PS360 era. Glad to see it moved to PC. Day 1, and hopefully it will encourage more PC ports.

Well the third game was more like first one when it came to the setting. Saddly that didn't remove the limitations of PSP regarding of the maps. They recycled assets even more trough the game than in VC2. Didn't even localize the game because VC2 bombed so badly in the west and PSP was already practically dead... I would pay pretty much anything for VC4 on next gen (and PC) =/

Sadly that was the case with 3, it was developed on a bit of the cheap (having played the game, it is noticeable), but it was certainly the superior sequel we never got due to the aforementioned reasons.

You also had DLC involving
Radi, which was after the first game if I'm not mistaken.

I didn't particularly care for the game, I found it unbalanced with a ton of poor design. But it's still nice to see it on the PC. The presentation was the best part of it, so I want to see what it will look like.

Out of all the multiplatform developers, Sega has the most diverse and extensive lineup of classic games that I would love to see get PC/console ports.

Bayonetta
Vanquish
Valkyria Chronicles
Jet Set Radio Future
Skies of Arkadia
Panzer Dragoon Orta
Otogi
Shenmue
SMT/Persona

1 down 8 to go!

I said it in the other thread and I'll say it here: this game isn't for everyone. Don't let hype sweep you away.

The gameplay was incredibly clunky to me and it felt like the mish-mash of genres just didn't work. The story also just didn't click with me, I couldn't get invested.

That said, I am glad that more Japanese games are coming to PC. Good stuff. Just wish it was a game that I liked!
