Right, but it unfortunately cost more and made less than ASM1 did, plus had a worse critical reception. That's not something you want to see in a sequel.
Ehhhh, they definitely maneuvered everything around after seeing how it did. They had other plans that they scrapped.
Oh right, this too. They don't get merch off of it, which is a real buzzkill for them. That would've helped out significantly.
The merch situation hurts I'm sure, but I don't think Sony is lacking confidence in the brand due to ASM2's profit margin not being as large as they wanted it to be. I mean they're planning for how many spin-offs atm? Sinister Six, Venom I think, and a Female Super Hero film all from the property. Maybe it's a gamble but it would seem odd to plan for all of that while angling to reach some sort of reverse liscensing back to Marvel. Unless Marvel is shelling out some huge money upfront for it.
