Amazing Spider Man 2 was viewed as a disappointment and it was recently said that a lot of the spinoffs they had planned like Venom had been cancelled and/or suspended

They want to evaluate where they can take the series without getting fatigued. A Spider-Man cameo in Avengers would do wonders for Sony.
